Bumpie Group Chat: our first on air fight, life in a bat cave, Pearl starts bush kindy and a confronting bullying lesson

When one of is up, the other is usually down and that is the case for this Bumpie Group Chat. Jayde has had a string of bad news whereas Sophie has had a childcare win. So why did we end up in an on-air fight!? Keeping it real, as always. We chat… Jayde has a bat infestation and a bunch of bad news When you think trusting your child is enough… navigating bullying from a different perspective Teens, phones and the internet  Pearl starts kindy and Sophie reflects on Pearl’s care journey so far What are the top 5 things worth their money as mums of 3? What are the top 5 things NOT worth their money as mums of 3? This one gets controversial Was it just us or was Toy Story 5 a bit… shamey? Sophie’s doing 30 Days of No Fashion Spending and Jayde is starting to sell her wardrobe. So why do we fight about it? 622 | Hilary’s Birth, MGP, Secondary Infertility, Missed miscarriage, Advanced Maternal Age, Induction, Cervical Lip

Join me today for a conversation with my sister, Hilary who shares her second pregnancy and birth with her daughter Rhoda.  I was in the birth centre from the moment her waters broke. It was the first birth I’ve ever attended and such a precious experience (although I think it confirmed that I wouldn’t be the best doula). I had a few roles on the day: support sister, photographer and baby catcher. Needless to say, it was unforgettable. Today's episode is brought to you by Nutra Naturals.  Made from Australian grass-fed beef and pasture-raised chicken bones, Nutra Naturals' award-winning bone broths are slowly cooked and concentrated into either a rich paste or convenient powder. So you get the rich flavour and naturally occurring collagen protein you'd expect from a traditional homemade bone broth - without spending hours in the kitchen. Plus there’s added Zinc and B Vitamins too! No preservatives, no fillers, no nasties. Just clean wholefood ingredients that make healthy eating feel effortless. And that is really what we are all after isn't it. The range starts from $34.95 and you can shop online at nutranaturals.com.au. Use the code AUSBIRTHSTORIES at checkout to get 20% off. But be quick, this offer is only available until the 18th of September 2026 and cannot be used on bundles or with any other offer. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

    Episode 135: Healthy habits reflection

Episode 135 is out now! Healthy habits reflection goes deep into the gap between the habits we want and the reality of our lives. We hear extraordinary listener stories, questions and advice. A music professional who survived her own real-life Fletcher and came out the other side with a powerful question about what we teach kids to normalise in the pursuit of excellence. A dad whose chaotic childhood was transformed by one loving parent who proved that presence matters more than proximity when it comes to healthy habits. We cover picky eating, the pressure to quit, habit building for neurodivergent kids, what to do when the scaffolding of school and sport falls away, and how to find your way back to yourself when life has left absolutely nothing in the tank. As one listener reminded us, sometimes the most powerful healthy habit you can build isn't for your kids at all. It's finally getting the support you need for yourself.

A Week of Bike Rides, Puppetry of the Penis, and a Happy Andy

This week, I'm continuously grappling with my kids waking up early, I had a mini fit on a plane (again, teehee!), and John talked me through his viewing of Puppetry of the Penis. Then, I recapped my appearance in The Jellicle Ball, and had a big texting snafu thanks to Apple's Merge Contacts while trying to find a bartender for my BBQ. Plus, Ben learned to ride a bike and I realized that I'm in the happiest moment of my life (and Jordan got a front row seat to my life as a boyfriend). The Secret to Getting Kids Off Screens

A Disney movie about toys ended with a conversation about screens, sewing and what childhood is starting to lose. After watching Toy Story 5, Justin and Kylie found themselves talking less about the movie and more about what happens when tablets replace cubby houses, craft tables and backyard adventures. Kylie shares how teaching their 12-year-old daughter to sew sparked confidence, patience and a brand new business idea. They also unpack the message Toy Story 5 sends about technology, why it missed an important opportunity, and what parents can do instead. If screens have become the default in your house, this episode offers practical ideas that don't involve another argument. KEY POINTS What Toy Story 5 gets right about childhood. The screen time message the movie missed. Why sewing, baking, gardening and other "grandma hobbies" are making a comeback. How making something with your hands builds confidence. Why learning alongside your child strengthens your relationship. The family project that turned into a small business. QUOTE OF THE EPISODE "The joy isn't making something. The joy is making it together." RESOURCES MENTIONED Toy Story 5 Happy Families resources on healthy screen habits ACTION STEPS FOR PARENTS Pick one hands-on hobby your child can learn this month. Sewing, baking, gardening, woodworking or knitting all work. Learn it together instead of handing them a YouTube tutorial. Watch Toy Story 5 and ask what they noticed about the kids using screens. Set aside one afternoon each week to make something you can hold, use or give away. Celebrate what your child creates, even when it's wonky. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

They also chat solo parenting, finding the world’s greatest au pair (seriously… where has she been all their lives?!) and all the little moments that made this chapter so memorable. Then we unpack the wild world of perimenopause. Is it postpartum? Is it perimenopause? Is it both?! We chat symptoms, hormones, brain fog, mood swings, and why this season of life can feel like one giant guessing game. It’s time we started talking about it more. 621 | Freya - 35-week premature birth after car accident, hyperemesis gravidarum, tongue tie, perinatal anxiety

In this episode I chat with Freya, a paediatric doctor from Melbourne, about her pregnancy and premature vaginal birth of her daughter Goldie. Freya's journey to motherhood came with more challenges than most; she battled severe hyperemesis gravidarum for her entire pregnancy, was involved in a serious car accident at 34 weeks, and went into spontaneous labour at just 35 weeks. Her professional background in paediatrics influenced many of her fears around childbirth, yet she still managed to find a positive, empowering birth experience. Freya also speaks candidly about the guilt and shame that so often accompanies pregnancy sickness, the emotional complexity of a NICU-adjacent birth, and a gruelling three-month breastfeeding journey.
