“I landed on my baby”... how do you move past mum guilt when a nightmare becomes reality? - with Abi Draycott

Abi, mum of 3 and a friend of Sophie’s, is speaking with us about her story. In this very emotional and vulnerable episode, Abi describes her journey into motherhood, the day their world shifted after a fall devastatingly impacted their newborn and the family’s road to recovery. Despite everything, Abi’s sense of humour and optimism had us in awe! We discuss… Moving from the UK to Australia and how to keep the grandparents involved  How an ADHD diagnosis transpired after becoming a mum Being a first time parent and how bitter-sweet hindsight can be How the intrusive thought so many new parents have became a reality and the terrifying moments that unfolded How guilt felt selfish and Abi’s strength in dealing with the accident Navigating their daughter’s recovery  When a random pregnancy test turned into their next big chapter (much earlier than expected!) How life is now looking for Abi’s family  Beyond the Bump is hosted by Jayde Couldwell (@londonxboston) and Sophie Pearce (@svpearce) Come say hey over on Instagram @beyondthebump.podcast TikTok @beyondthebumppodcast Facebook - Beyond the Bump Community Chats group  Sign up to our monthly newsletter here for BTS, recommendations, outfits and more. 596 | Leila Two Sets of Twins, Two Different Journeys: Leila's Christmas Day Birth Story & Postpartum Village

Leila returns to share her incredible second twin birth story - a Christmas Day birth that began at home and culminated in a powerful breech water birth at hospital. As the founder of Village for Mama and mother to five children (including two sets of DCDA fraternal twins), Leila takes us through her unexpected pregnancy discovery at 21 weeks, her journey of informed choice-making, and the profound difference that building your village can make during pregnancy and postpartum. From dancing with a glass of non-alcoholic bubbles on Christmas morning to birthing her daughter Elka at home and then transferring to hospital for a footling breech birth of baby Finn in the birth pool, Leila's story is one of trust, intuition, and the incredible power of water birth for twins. She also shares invaluable insights about postpartum planning, the reality of caring for five children, and how she honoured her final 40-day lying-in period. Today's episode is brought to you by iLTutto iL Tutto is known for beautifully designed nursery furniture that combines comfort, functionality and timeless style. Is Parental Leave Possible When You Run A Business?? Beth Shares Her Plan

This week we’re diving into the ins and outs of how Beth has thoughtfully mapped out her plans and intentions to take maternity leave from her business, PowerBirth. It’s a conversation that explores the many variations of how women are navigating work - building businesses, fuelling passion projects, contributing financially - while also surrendering deeply into the beauty, slowness, and intensity of early motherhood. We speak honestly about the pinch point so many women feel: the tension between professional identity and maternal identity. The desire for spaciousness, presence, and softness… alongside the very real financial and practical considerations that don’t disappear just because a baby (or two!!) arrives. Beth shares what intentional planning has looked like for her - what she’s putting in place, what she’s letting go of, and how she’s preparing both logistically and emotionally for this next season. If you’re navigating maternity leave, returning to work, running a business, or simply sitting in the in-between, we hope this episode makes you feel seen. If this conversation resonated, please share it with a Mum friend who’s also wading her way through the juggle. And if you haven’t already, we’d be so grateful for a rating or review — it helps more women find our little corner of the internet. We know we’re bias but if you’ve listened and you’re looking for your own birth education now is the perfect opportunity to book with PowerBirth ✨  Find us over on Instagram @growingthepodcast @birthwithbeth and @lillian.beth

How do I know if I’m done? 8 adults, 1 powerful conversation - with the whole BTB team

A topic that comes up in the Beyond the Bump community daily is the big question, “how do you know when you’re done?” Yep - are you planning on having more children? And do we all get that feeling of knowing our family is complete? Or is that a myth? This is a round table style episode where we sat down with the eight members of the Beyond the Bump team on our team weekend away and dived into our own unique perspectives. Spoiler alert, about half of us cry! We discuss… Those of us who feel ‘done’ and how we know Does your children’s gender influence your desire for more kids? Soaking up a pregnancy knowing it is your ‘last’ - is this meaningful or just another milestone that actually makes us feel guilty? Grappling with the pressures of modern day life when your heart wishes for more children How our previous challenges impact our decisions That feeling of finding yourself and your ‘new normal’ after pregnancy Hannah, our audio editor, doesn’t have a partner or children and shares honestly how family planning is a constant pressure How fertility issues, relationship breakdowns and mental health play a part Is it harder to lean on your ‘village’ when you have multiple children? …and so much more! The Kindness Paradox That Changes Your Child’s Mental Health

When your child is anxious, lonely or flat… your instinct is to comfort them. But what if the fastest way to help them feel better isn’t self-care — it’s helping someone else? New research reveals a powerful mental health shift that happens when kids practise kindness outward instead of inward. The results are surprising — and incredibly practical for everyday family life. In this Doctor’s Desk episode, we unpack the science behind the “kindness paradox” and show you exactly how to use it at home this week. KEY POINTS A study of 777 adults found helping others reduced depression, anxiety and loneliness. Self-kindness reduced depression — but didn’t touch anxiety or loneliness. Kindness toward others builds connection, and connection is at the core of mental health. Feeling like you matter changes everything. Small acts (compliments, thank you notes, cookie drops) create powerful emotional shifts. Teaching kids outward kindness may be one of the simplest wellbeing tools available. QUOTE OF THE EPISODE “The fastest way to feel better about yourself is to help someone else feel better about their life.” RESOURCES MENTIONED Study published in Emotion on prosocial vs self-focused kindness interventions The concept of “mattering” in psychological wellbeing research ACTION STEPS FOR PARENTS Ask at dinner: “Who did you help today?” Plan one small act of kindness as a family this week. Encourage compliments to strangers, teachers or friends. Write one handwritten thank-you note together. Repeat it next week — aim for three acts of kindness. How can I get this brain of mine to breathe? Simplifying for the sake of our nervous system with Jodi Wilson

The “nervous system” has been mentioned a lot lately and for good reason! Life is busy and our body wasn’t designed to be dealing with this level of stress 24/7. So today, we speak to Jodi Wilson, bestselling author, yoga teacher and postpartum doula, about her latest book, A Brain that Breathes: essential habits for an overwhelming world. We discuss… What even is the nervous system and how can we slow down? How the constant mental load, multitasking and being chronically online all contribute to an overwhelmed nervous system Small daily habits that we can use to help calm ourselves down (the real self-care!) The ‘switch cost effect’ and how it is really impacting mothers Children’s innate ability to be present Our biological need to rest in order for our brain to function productively How ‘the infinite scroll’ and picking up our phones keeps us in fight/flight 5 strategies to use when you’re overwhelmed Links mentioned in this episode: Read Jodi’s book here Find Jodi on Substack here or on Instagram at @practisingimplicity  This episode is proudly sponsored by Tonies.
