  • Are We Growing Or Just Eating Humble Pie? | Toddler trenches, holding boundaries and twin exhaustion hits hard

Are We Growing Or Just Eating Humble Pie? | Toddler trenches, holding boundaries and twin exhaustion hits hard

Lil is deep in the toddler trenches - food refusal, parental preference, running away (quite fast) and the weighty question “am I actually doing any of this right?”. We chat boundaries, big feelings, finding your parenting style and the push and pull of parenting a tiny person who understands far more than they can actually regulate. Beth mentions Dr Siggie for child development support if you are also looking for a little software upgrade.  Beth is five months in with the twins and off the back of vaccinations with two babies she’s had a big old week and discovered that perhaps four children is many, many children. The glimmer is she’s feeling the excitement and joy of stepping back into paid work (a little more) and is reminded of just how much she loves her job and business baby PowerBirth.  OUR REBUILDS Beth: Getting back into Pilates — two classes a week, three weeks running. Turns out everyone was annoyingly right: exercise does make you feel better. Lil: Early morning walks with Ben and the boys. If you're already awake, you may as well go for the river walk. RECIPE + RECOMMENDATIONS Pistachio Chocolate Dates: Dates + pistachio butter + melted chocolate = an elite little sweet treat. Pop the filled dates in the freezer before dipping them in chocolate so they hold their shape. Perfect for our pregnant listeners wanting to get their date fix. Pistachio Papi is the elite spread, could also just use pistachio butter.  Australia Post App: Lil has also discovered parcel tracking and parcel lockers and is wondering why nobody told her sooner. Also for our pilates princesses Leelo Active - Buttery, secure Pilates princess pants.  And Glimmer Girls - we want to hear from you. What parenting software are you currently upgrading? What does your rebuild look like?  Come tell us over on Instagram @growingthepodcast and join the conversation. 💌

    Episode 137: Anger reflection

The response to our anger episode was one of the most moving we have ever received. In this reflection we hear from parents who grew up around anger they couldn't name and are working hard not to repeat those patterns, from a dad who recognised himself in his own mother's rage during the most vulnerable weeks of early parenthood, from someone who works with young people in custody for whom anger became the only language they knew, and from a listener whose message stopped us in our tracks. An occupational therapist shares some powerful practices for going slow and meeting our kids where they are. We are also reminded in our closing that anger and love often live much closer together than we think. Thank you for your extraordinary honesty and courage in sharing. We hope this one helps.

629 | Elise Two births, HG, DCDA twins, induced labour, special care nursery, TFMR

In this episode I chat to Elise, originally from Scotland and now living on Sydney's Northern Beaches with her partner Dan and their three children. Elise has experienced severe hyperemesis gravidarum in all three of her pregnancies, and she takes us through an incredibly quick, vaginal birth with her first daughter Delilah, the heartbreaking termination for medical reasons of her daughter Rain following a trisomy 18 diagnosis, and finally the induced vaginal birth of her twins, Posey and Ziggy, which included a frightening resuscitation moment in the birth suite. Elise speaks openly about hyperemesis gravidarum, secondary fertility while breastfeeding, and adjusting to life with three children under three. It's a raw, generous conversation about how vastly different birth experiences can be, even for the same woman, and how the right care provider can change everything. • The Friendship Skills Every Child Needs [with Michelle Mitchell]

The Friendship Skills Every Child Needs [with Michelle Mitchell]

Friendship isn't just part of childhood. It shapes confidence, mental health and whether kids feel they belong. So why does it seem harder than ever? Michelle Mitchell joins Dr Justin Coulson to unpack the biggest friendship mistakes parents make, why today's kids need more than "just go and play", and the simple framework that helps children build healthier, stronger relationships. If your child is dealing with friendship drama, loneliness or constant social ups and downs, this conversation will change the way you guide them. KEY POINTS Why friendship struggles sit behind so many school and wellbeing issues. What's changed for today's kids and why friendships feel more complicated than ever. Michelle Mitchell's three-part friendship framework: safety, chemistry and effort. How to help children recognise healthy, one-sided and situational friendships. Why parents shouldn't feel guilty for staying involved in their child's friendships. Practical advice for supporting neurodivergent children to build meaningful connections. The surprising research about bullying that every parent needs to hear. How technology is quietly changing what children expect from friendships. QUOTE OF THE EPISODE "Friendships are founded on safety. They gather energy through chemistry. They're sustained through effort." RESOURCES MENTIONED Friendship Smart by Michelle Mitchell. A Little More Social by Nicholas Epley. ACTION STEPS FOR PARENTS Talk about one friendship with your child this week using three questions. Does it feel safe? Is there real connection? Are both people putting in effort? Help your child see that not every friendship needs to be equally close. Look beyond school for friendships through family, neighbours, hobbies and community groups. Notice when technology is shaping your child's expectations of friendship and talk openly about what healthy relationships look like. Remind your child that strong friendships grow over time through trust, kindness and consistency. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Martha Kalifatidis Mum Shamed Over Viral 'Yelling' Video

Martha Kalifitidis has faced scathing criticism for yelling at her toddler in a recent TikTok video. The former MAFS contestant divided fans, with some saying her reaction was disproportionate to the behaviour, whilst others defended her saying it was normal for a busy mum.  Rich parents are now hiring house-hold staff to cater for their children's every whim. From chefs to make their baby’s purees, to high-end potty training consultants and even professionals bike riding teachers. The parents say their parenting teams are helping them spend more “quality time” with their children, without being burdened by the mundane tasks.  And the one Census’ question that divided households.  The Mums' Group is a podcast from Outspoken Media.
