Ep. 30 - You Don’t Have to Conquer It | Dave Darmody, Jamie Hazelden & Rick O’Brien

What happens when you put three men who have spent decades travelling Australia together in a room and ask them about more than just four-wheel driving? In this episode of Wild Honesty, I sit down with Dave Darmody, Jamie Hazelden and Rick O’Brien to talk about the trips they’ve shared, the things they’ve learned from each other, and why they keep going back out there. We talk adventure, friendship, capability, depression, self-doubt, getting things very wrong, figuring things out as you go, and the difference between experiencing something and feeling like you have to conquer it. There are also broken clutches, questionable Land Rovers, nachos eaten sitting in a river, dingoes arriving at particularly inconvenient moments, and a fairly convincing argument that perhaps all you really need to start an adventure is the right attitude and a sense of humour. What I loved most about this conversation is that underneath decades of knowledge and experience are three people who genuinely want others to get out there, try things, learn and experience more of their own lives. And somewhere in the middle of all of that, we get into something I’m endlessly curious about: Sometimes confidence doesn’t come before we do the thing. Sometimes doing the thing is what gives us the evidence that we can trust ourselves. Dave, Jamie, Ricko and I will also be together onstage at the Melbourne 4x4 Outdoors Show. After more than 20 years spent holding space for people through beauty, conversation, and transformation, she has become passionate about creating environments where people can hear themselves more clearly, trust their own voice, and stop letting themselves down in the process. Through honest conversations, adventure, Human Design, retreats, and reflection, Emily explores what happens when we meet ourselves at the edge of our comfort zones and learn to become our own GPS. Her work is built around a simple belief: We don't always need more advice, another course, or someone else to tell us who we are. Sometimes we just need enough space to feel seen, come alive again, and hear ourselves clearly enough to know the next step.

Ep 29. The Uncomfortable Space Between Who You Were and Who You’re Becoming

There are moments when the life you built still looks perfectly reasonable from the outside, but something inside you has become too loud to ignore. In this episode, I’m speaking from the messy middle between the identity I know how to succeed inside and the life I can feel calling me, even though I still can’t see exactly how to build it. For more than twenty years, I’ve known who I am as a cosmetic tattooist. I know the skill I bring, the result I create and how to build a business around it. What I’m less certain about is how to build a life around the parts of me that feel harder to measure: conversation, connection, community, travel, curiosity and creating spaces where people feel safe enough to be honest. I talk about selling my house and discovering that one big external decision didn’t instantly make me feel free. I talk about work, motherhood, co-parenting, a long-distance relationship, receiving support and the fear that choosing more aliveness could make me selfish or irresponsible. Maybe the work isn’t finding a version of life where nobody is disappointed. Maybe it is learning to distinguish selfishness from self-abandonment, and responsibility from fear. This isn’t an episode with a neat answer. It’s an honest conversation about trying to become more of yourself without pretending your responsibilities don’t exist and allowing yourself to speak while the story is still unfolding. Because your life does not need to be fully resolved before it becomes meaningful. What part of you wants to come alive that you keep dismissing because you can’t see the whole way forward yet? A Re-Introduction

A Re-Introduction - What if the goal isn't becoming less doubtful? What if it's becoming more honest? In this opening episode of Wild Honesty, I share the story behind the name change, the lessons that have emerged through motherhood, business, adventure, relationships, and rebuilding, and why I believe self-trust isn't built before we begin, it's built afterwards. A conversation about honest beginnings, messy middles, and learning to be your own GPS. If you've been here since A Road Less Doubtful, thank you for staying. If you're new here, welcome.
