For today's broadcast, I turned off the lights. Blue sky outside, so very well lit in the studio all the same. Just less electric glow. More sun. Yellow sun blue sky and the nice grey drapings of a Saturday afternoon. Brewed some green tea. Let the bag steep just a tad too long. Saw a cute picture of a dog in Scotland bravely jumping over a bonnie wee brook (creek) this morning; dog jumped earlier this week. These sound selections come from those two experiences. - SyfPlaylist: Miro's Band, featuring Henri Enrique Miro - The Contemptibles MarchBeverly Glenn-Copeland - ShenandoahGlenn Miller and His Orchestra - Under Blue Canadian SkiesThe Golden Age of Wrestling - BrontosaurusSilla, featuring Kevin Qananiq-Mason - The Great AngakkuqDon Reno, Red Smiley, and the Tennessee Cutups - A Pretty Wreath For Mother's GraveCharlotte Day Wilson - PatchworkPinebarren - ArbutusDina Ögon - Gra LabyrintDottie Myles, featuring Milton Herbert Orchestra - Gimme A Little KissThe Bel Canto Singers - Pie JesuRuth Brown - Good-For-Nothing JoeThe Yellow Sunshine Microdot Happiness Band - It Emanates For That Is Its NatureJoemy Wilson - Faeries' LamentationDan Mangan - My Dreams Are Getting WeirderBob Hill and his Canadian Country Boys, featuring The Carignan Brothers - Mount Gabriel ReelEnya - EponaNicola Miller - SeaweedAntonio Lauro, featuring Adam Goldman - ZulayFred Astaire & Ginger Rogers - The YamTaylor Swift - Clara BowPhilip Johnson - I Am WearingAnnie Lennox - The Hurting TimeLingyuan Yang - Ritual FireBrian Toner - Fishing In Heaven

Syf Sloane? More like SIP* Sloane. Because she sipped from hot milk with vanilla (called a "steamer" in barista parlance) throughout this whole show. Perhaps that can be tasted in the music she's selected. Syf calls this show "very thinky" and her mother calls it "meditative" - both feel quite apt. Syf's thinking has been moving along spiral-y trails and whorl tracks recently. Snail shells and the upturned hull of a ship, wooden ribs trying to remember when they were trees nuzzling the sky's chin. What shapes are you thinking along? *Wynter Laboucane came up with this joke, all credit due to her.Playlist: Paul Bley Trio, featuring Nark Levinson (bass), Barry Altshul (drums), Paul Bley (piano) - Ramblin'Neil Young - Needle Of Death (Bert Jansch)Ennio Morricone - The Salo Haunted SuiteUnknown (Male Vocal Quartette) - Onward Christian SoldiersBeverly Glenn-Copeland, featuring Elizabeth Glenn-Copeland - Middle Island LamentBennett Mitchell - I'm Not SufferingJimmie Osborne - Thank God For Victory In KoreaCold Camp - IntroWhole Lotta Beef - Car ToySwamp Donkey - It Is Not The Water's FaultJeff Tweedy - Parking LotHarry Manx - Don't Forget To Miss MeT. Been reading Beowulf again, different translations, different versions, some all poetic text, others prose, still others illustrated. And that got me thinking about caves. If I were Grendel or his mother, I think I would stay in the cave, among the rusty swords and dinosaur bones.
