Daniel Wilson on when acting is no longer a side hustle and following your heart

Daniel Wilson on when acting is no longer a side hustle and following your heart

This week I chat with Aussie Actor, Daniel Wilson… who, has beaten me to a handful of commercial gigs that we both auditioned for over the years.   Daniel and I first met on the set of Steve Khuory's AFTRS graduate film Bimbalo, it was a very different time! Since then, Daniels career has gone from strength to strength.

In this weeks episode we talk about Daniels decision at age 33 to finally follow his heart and pursue a career in the arts. 7 years on, Daniel is being cast in commercials and scripted work regularly. We also talk about the moment when he felt comfortable calling his full time job his side hustle and feeling like it’s the right time that acting took centre stage.

Shah Hussain from Pro MMA Fighter to Stunt Man and Actor

Shah Hussain from Pro MMA Fighter to Stunt Man and Actor

This week I speak with actor, stunt man, retired MMA fighter and family security detail Shah Hussain. Shah is no amateur when it comes to bright lights having had a successful career as a pro MMA fighter, however he’s swapped fighting rings for ring lights.
After years as a pro fighter and being encouraged by a friend Shah has made the transition to acting and stunt work later in life. Now in his 40’s with a family and also the security detail for an important family… Shah is trying his hand at acting and he's been pretty successful so far.
In this weeks episode we talk about his transition having never even considered acting, how he juggles family, work and the graft of making it as an actor and his unique perspective that at the moment, acting is still a hobby.   Hope you enjoy this weeks episode of actors making it and as always, good luck on your own journey to making it.

Tay BL ,

Inspiring!

What an insightful, inspiring and heartwarming podcast. So often you only hear from actors once they have already 'made it' and their advice is just no longer relevant to those still building their career. To hear from people closer to your own stage as they transition to the next step is both relatable, practical and inspiring. Highly recommend it not to just actors but others still finding their place in a creative industry.
