    87: Ransom

    87: Ransom

What does holiness and chemical atonement have to do with liberation and ransom? Did Jesus pay a ransom price, and if so, to who? And how might we better synthesize these various ways of describing what Jesus accomplished? (We even get into The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe and how C.S. Lewis portrays the ransom theory in Narnia.) (More)

    86: Chemistry and Scapegoats

What do ancient science, the “scapegoat” of Yom Kippur, and holy tree branches have to do with Jesus’ death? And what does resurrection have to do with everything? 85: Did Jesus have to die?

Did Jesus have to die, or is that not even how we should think about it? And why is blood both a source of holiness and defilement? 84: Holiness is the Gospel

    84: Holiness is the Gospel

Holiness and purity were two of the central concerns of the entire Levitical system. Neither were moral categories, but rather had to do with something like chemical states. In this episode, Nate and Tim discuss the idea of holiness and how the New Testament authors believed the gospel was that Jesus had made the world holy. (More)

Nathan Linton ,

My Favourite Podcast!!

Almost Heretical is the space every church needs but often doesn’t have. Almost Heretical is a soave to ask the big questions, doubt, discover, listen and understand. Tim & Nate bring their experience, intellect, humour and most importantly God into the centre of that uncertainly and make you feel safe and supported but most of all LOVED!! If you come with an open mind, this podcast will speak to you wherever you are in your faith journey. Having just come out of a fundamentalist Christian environment and with a large amount of my spiritual support network gone, by listening to this podcast I’ve come to understand a more real, more beautiful faith. Tim & Nate have been like my spiritual support network that I’ve been able to hang out with every week! Can’t wait for more episodes and hope that by listening to Almost Heretical you can see that it is good to question and challenge and come to a deeper appreciation of just how awesome Jesus is!!

Great unbiased and thoughtful exploration of the Bible... among other stuff :)

Tim and Nate have created a very listenable podcast for those looking for ways to engage with their bibles in a real and meaningful way in the 21st century. I highly recommend the podcast to anyone who doesn't 'swallow' the popular stories portrayed by the mainstream Christian churches. I wish some of my friends would at least allow themselves the privilege of listening to a different opinion other than the one that they were handed by their well-meaning forebears. Thanks for the hard work Tim and Nate. Long life and good health to your podcast!
BTW, hang in there for the first few episodes. I found it difficult to follow initially but, it all comes together quickly after that.
Peace.
Tim

Just what I needed

This is just what I needed after being admonished by the business that institutional church has become. Have broken up with the institution but not with God and this is a great place to be. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! :)
