You can’t understand war (or much else), unless you can absorb nuance and contradiction. That’s why I listen to Haviv. I was intimately involved with the war in Sri Lanka, in which civilians, ensnared by siege, were similarly pawns in a very complex strategic and tactical game. I’m also a ‘victim’ of Israel’s failure in the information war, bombarded here in Australia by a press that mostly gives one side. So Haviv’s words are a slaking corrective to that ignorance.

I have listened to Haviv on numerous podcasts through the past 2 years of this war. This latest one with Dan Schueftan was beyond deeply disappointing, it was dangerous, so much blindness and denialism, feeding the dehumanising narrative that all Palestinians are barbarians and there’s no path to peace. It’s rubbish, the majority on the ground on both sides desperately want peace and it’s the dreadful leaders on both sides who perpetuate the problems. We need you to host people like Samer sinijlawi who can demonstrate the real opportunity here for genuine peace and coexistence. It’s the only way if we don’t want these forever wars that will ultimately lead to the end of Israel.

I could listen to Haviv for hours. And actually I have and not just here. Haviv turned up on my radar not long after October 8 and I’ve been following him constantly on numerous other podcasts since then and was thrilled when he turned up with his own podcast. Haviv is incredibly knowledgeable on the social and political history and machinations of Israel and the Middle East and gives brilliant no nonsense commentary that is compelling listening. I look forward to each and every episode.
