#1 Michael Cross. How did he start The Barracks Gym?

#1 Michael Cross. How did he start The Barracks Gym?

Michael Cross is the founder and co-owner of The Barracks Gym. We have been training Defence Force Applicants out of this gym in Brisbane for over 2 years now.

Michael spent 13 years in the Australian Army before deciding to get out and travel. Once he returned home from travel he knew he didn't just want a 9-5 job. He wanted to take everything he'd learnt over his 13 year career along with the lessons he learnt whilst travelling and turn this into a business.

He went into this with zero business knowledge. All he knew was that his idea was awesome and that it would work. So with no Plan B, he decided to throw everything he had into starting The Barracks Gym.

Lucky for you... his idea worked and it's the reason that so many of you have been able to enlist into your dream jobs.

Fast forward to over 2 years later and the facility sits in Albion, Brisbane (Australia). We have put through hundreds of applicants both in the gym and online. We have had a hand in assisting countless individuals through to enlistment with our mentoring and knowledge.

#2 Lance & Richard- Army Applicants. Community, Friendship & Fitness.

#2 Lance & Richard- Army Applicants. Community, Friendship & Fitness.

Lance & Richard* both train at The Barracks Gym. One of them heads to RMC very soon and the other hasn't even applied for the Army yet. They are good mates.

They didn't know each other prior to coming to TBG. They gravitated together due to being surrounded by chicks in the gym. Now they are the ultimate training team and have been dominating in the gym for months.

In this episode we talk about the unlikely friendships that can come about whilst you're in the Military. How having a common goal can bring people together and make it feel like you've known each other forever. We talk about drinking, TV shows, squatting PBs and partying.

Enjoy as we uncover how having a solid training buddy can change your fitness progression epically.

Theres a few swear words thrown around here so avoid listening to this when there are small humans around who might repeat those words at inappropriate times.

*- Names have been changed for security purposes. (Names have also been blanked out during the episode where real names were used accidentley! Oops)

#3 Belle is a 23 Year Old Gap Year Applicant with a VERY supportive Family

#3 Belle is a 23 Year Old Gap Year Applicant with a VERY supportive Family

Belle* is a 23 year old Navy Gap Year Applicant. She applied for the Navy before she left school but it didn't go according to her plan. 6 years later, she is finally enlisting.

We discuss the Gap Year Program, applying as a 16 year old, the importance of 'life experience', fitness, having a supportive gym community, the excitement of a new career after a Uni degree and how having the worlds more loving and supportive family has meant the world to her.

Please note- Swear words have not been beeped out. I like to swear and I'm not ashamed of that. If you're listening to this episode with small humans around, I would suggest using headphones.

*Names have been changed to preserve the security and privacy of gym members.

#4 Army Applicant, Frankie. Breaking Through the Fitness Mind Game.

#4 Army Applicant, Frankie. Breaking Through the Fitness Mind Game.

Frankie* has been with TBG for about 6 months. She's enlisting into the Army in January as a Cargo Specialist.

She's a dominant, confident personality and came to us with a bit of attitude. We found a way to curb this to a level that helped her excel in her training.

We talk about how TBG has helped her work through the mind games that come about with exercising. Those mindset blocks that a lot of chicks experience. Now she looks back and realises that her body is capable of so much more than she ever realised. It's pretty cool.

We chat about socialising with people at TBG, drinking, boys, dogs, family, friendships, 'normal' families, what not to study at uni and how to pass the time until you figure out what you want to do with your life... at 25 years old.

*Names have been changed to preserve the privacy and security of gym members.

Swearing has not been beeped out because I like swear words. Don't listen to this around small humans who may repeat what I have to say. Especially if they are capable of saying the words in context and you've got to try not to laugh at them.

#5 Gee is in the Navy and tells us all about Cerberus

#5 Gee is in the Navy and tells us all about Cerberus

Gee is a serving member of the Royal Australian Navy. She also train at TBG prior to enlisting.

She's completed her Recruit Training at Cerberus and she is now part way through her IETs. She's back home in Brisbane on Christmas leave so I grabbed her for a quick chat.

We talked about life at Cerberus. Fitness requirements as a Navy recruit. How TBG changed more than just fitness for her. We also talk about how she became the push-up coach for everyone in her cabin. #tbgrocks

It was soooo good to have her in the gym for the few weeks that she was back. I hope that all the Navy recruits out there enjoy this one! It's a real life insight into what you can expect!!

Swear words occur. Don't listen to this in front of impressionable ears.
