Breast Case Scenario Kris and Cass

Kris and Cass both had double mastectomies, but their surgical decisions could not be more different. While Cass chose the reconstruction route, Kris decided to go flat. This episode explores the factors and life experiences that influenced their decisions and what they wished they'd known.

In the end, it's really not about the team you're on, as long as you're informed, and the decision you make is a shared one with your care team.

Following the death of her mother to metastatic breast cancer when she was 21, Cass details the circumstances that saw her commit to a prophylactic double mastectomy at the age of 31. She discusses how fear impacted her decision and how lack of information contributed to a long and difficult journey with breast reconstrcution utilising breast implants. After an implant rupture caused concerning health issues, Cass talks about the courage she found to undergo a DIEP flap breast reconstruction earlier this year and how the process provided her with an unexpected and deep love for her body as well as a renewed faith in the medical system.
