Absolute Best Comics Podcast
I love this podcast. Every week I am completely entertained by the team involved. So many great comics picked up that I would probably have never grabbed purely based on their recommendations and for the most part I have never been disappointed. Nice work Team!!! :0)
"You've changed, man"
I listened to this show from 2012 up until recently and had been enjoying it. I was in the same boat as most of the hosts in that I was new to comics, and rougly the same age. And I discovered a lot of new comics along with them because of their recomendations. But over the past year this show has gone from an open minded, all accepting comic and comics related podcast to a stubbornly opinionated, complain-fest. As I am in the same boat as the hosts, I am pretty fresh to comics. But I respect the past and embrace the future. The hosts of Talking Comics have recently had a tendency to compare past comics to todays standards and therefore deem them irrelevant or terrible. You cannot compare something that is 30 years old to something that has come out today. And putting it simply, nobody gained anything by simply bullying an opinion about how much you hate something. Do your research. I am as new and fresh to comics as these guys, but before I open my mouth I do my research. Using an example of something like The Killing Joke or Dark Knight Returns, it is not our place as new readers to come in and suddenly plant a flag and say "No this isn't as good as everyone says it is because I'm new to this". Don't read it or talk about it. If its not for you its not for you. I have since stopped listening to this podcast because I found there was more time spent on the things they hated than loved. And its said very matter-of-factly as if anyone who thinks differently is lesser for it. It seriously bugged me many times where all 4 hosts ganged up on some comic or film. Listeners and new readers are maleable. You don't know where to start so you start by trusting others opinions. I was when I first listened. But if you guys were this opinionated when I started listening I would have taken your opinion as trustworthy because of similar taste. And in doing so would have missed out on literally volumes upon volumes of comics I love. So more to listeners of this show, don't blindly just take any negative review from this podcast as fact. Try it yourself. You'll be surprised. Anyway, its been a fun couple of years and I will miss having a regular 2+ hour podcast to fill my working week. But there's not enough time in my life for this much complaining.... And yes I see the irony in my essay length whiny review.
Don't miss out
Great show with insight to great comics coming out or if you are getting back into comics as well. Very funny and insightful podcast don't miss out on this gem.
