S8 Ep. 3: Have another drink, part 1 (Perioperative hypotension and AKI)

S8 Ep. 3: Have another drink, part 1 (Perioperative hypotension and AKI)

Today, in part one of our two part series looking at perioperative hypotension and acute kidney injury (AKI), we take a close look at the diagnostic criteria for acute kidney injury. We then briefly revise aspects of renal physiology that make the kidney particularly susceptible to hypoxic injury, as well as looking at risk factors and other facets of anaesthesia that additionally predispose the kidney to perioperative injury.

In part two - which will be released in a fortnight - we will take a closer look at the methods we can adopt as anaesthetists to try to prevent perioperative AKI and the evidence of their effectiveness in preventing this complication.

Benjaminteo ,

This is great stuff !!

Got to know this as a non-anaesthetist pain specialist from the ANZCA bulletin and I find it fabulous. Candid, succint, highly relevant to clinical practice. I am inspired by the challenging work our anaesthetic colleagues put into our patients. And its okay that not everything's evidence-based which is unsurprising given the diversity and complexity of patients is ever increasing, our individual unique experience also matters and thank you for making that distinction in your talks .... some ideas for talks other regional anaesthesia techniques/tips/tricks, preventive analgesia and reduction of PPSP, objective perioperative risk assessment tools, but I'm just enjoying the variety. Keep it up Dr McCrossin & Dr Steele !

Terrific listening

I wish this podcast had been around before my part 2 exam! However I am really enjoying listening to it now as a refresher. Episodes are well researched and great succinct updates on pertinent topics. Thank you, Drs Steele and McCrossin!
