Episode 002 - Microsoft Build ReCap

Episode 002 - Microsoft Build ReCap

In this episode of the 'Getting Closer To Cloud' podcast, we cover our major annual developer conference, Microsoft Build (https://mybuild.microsoft.com/)

Microsoft Build, aimed at software engineers and web developers using Windows, Microsoft Azure and other Microsoft technologies.

With 301 sessions, we dissect Build and give you the low down on the major announcements.

    - Azure Container Apps (https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/services/container-apps/#overview) | Is now GA (Generally Available). Allowing developers and builders the world over to run containers without worrying about servers. Serverless. Throw us your containers and we will run these for you. Greatly reducing the effort to operationalise containers at scale.

    - DevBox (https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/azure-developer-community-blog/introducing-microsoft-dev-box/ba-p/3412063) | it is all in the name, your development box in the cloud.
A new cloud service that provides developers with secure, ready-to-code developer workstations for hybrid teams of any size. Microsoft Dev Box empowers developers to focus on the code only they can write, making it easy for them to access the tools and resources they need without worrying about workstation configuration and maintenance.

At the same time, Dev Box ensures unified management, security, and compliance stay in the hands of IT by leveraging Windows 365 to integrate Dev Boxes with Intune and Microsoft Endpoint Manager.

    - .NET MAUI (Multi-platform App UI) (https://devblogs.microsoft.com/dotnet/introducing-dotnet-maui-one-codebase-many-platforms/) | is also GA, it is a new framework for building modern multi platform natively compiled apps for iOS, Android, macOS and Windows using C# and XAML in a single codebase. The framework solves the challenges developers face when building native apps across many operating systems. Instead of having to learn multiple technology stacks, .NET MAUI abstracts them into one common framework built on .NET 6.

    - GitHub Co Pilot (https://copilot.github.com/) | Your AI pair programmer they will give you suggestions for whole lines or entire functions right inside your editor. Currently in technical preview it will help you not only help increase the speed of development but may also teach you a new trick or two.

If you missed parts of Microsoft Build, remember sessions are available on demand, so I would encourage you to find some time and sharpen your saw and consume a session or 3.

Episode 001 - Getting Started On Azure

Episode 001 - Getting Started On Azure

In this genesis episode of the 'Think Customer Podcast', we introduce you to our hosts, Shane & Dr Pete and set the tenants for what is the 'Think Customer Podcast'.

It's about Azure, but it also not just about Azure, we’re about your success so we will also jump around to the wide and deep within Microsoft and non-Microsoft technology with you.

    - What are common industry trends that you need to be aware of? Can you, or should you implement them into your tech stack?
    - After setting the direction of the show we talked about what is modern cloud architecture. The game has changed, where are you on your journey? Can we help you climb this curve?
    - The best way to get started on your journey is the Azure Free Tier! A great way to jump in and experiment in a low friction way.
    - Tagging, if there is one thing we can both say with confidence is when you are building on cloud, spend the time and derive a tagging strategy. This rich meta data can aid your organisation in so many ways, so before you get to deep on your journey, think about tagging.
    - How could we not touch on Well Architected, it’s a design methodology to help advance the maturity of your workloads. Whenever you build on Azure, think Well Architected
    - Finally, we discussed a few updates on platform. Azure welcomes ARM, now giving you more choice than just x86 and a way to run your workloads and what's more up to 50% cheaper for the same levels of performance.

We value your feedback as it helps drive the direction of this show. Send us a message at thinkcustomer@microsoft.com
