Excellent
👍🏻 Just about anything with DescriptionMalcolm Timothy Gladwell is very interesting to listen to.
Yes it’s a commercial but...
The series is interesting despite the constant awareness that it’s an ad. Not an issue for me as I don’t expect to ever be able to afford a Lexus. I had a problem though with the ep which discussed the music theory behind the sound design of the engine of the LC. Why didn’t the experts point out that the perfect intervals (5th and 8th etc) are just the intervals that naturally occur when you send a vibration through any tube? It’s how bugles work to play taps and reveille etc. It’s not that special. Also I question the claim that the engine was playing a note at 400hz. 400hz is basically G above middle C, and the pitch clearly changes when the revs go up and down. In this section Malcolm was too credulous. And what’s with him saying he’s not “a music guy” after the amount of time and thought he’s given to music throughout his career? So enjoy the series but beware that it’s not going to be a “revisionist” as you might hope.
