Initially I thought this was gonna be an incredibly interesting podcast show. I took a look at it and given the type of guests chosen, from what I saw, I thought hell yeah this is gonna be a really interesting show. I initially listen to the Tom Wilson podcast episode and it was incredibly underwhelming. During the show, probing, and interesting questions were asked, however, the answers really middle of the road and boring. Then I listen to another episode and it was pretty much the same thing. The questions were interesting but the guest just answered in a really middle of the road, uninteresting response. I gave the show a couple of more chances, but encountered pretty much the same issues.
Then I realised, because a lot of the guests are currently in the industry and working in the industry or connected to the industry in a close way, the guests avoided any answers that might seem controversial or provocative, even if it’s the truth.
An example being, in the Tom Wilson episode, the host ask the question about Crispin Glover not being asked to return to the back to the future series after the first film. I know a little bit about what happened in the situation and the history about it - Crispin Glover was unhappy and expressed his concerns towards the filmmakers Roberts zemeckis and Bob Gale and that was perceived as Crispin Glover being difficult, and there was a huge legal lawsuit involving Glover in the film production due to his likeness, being reused without his permission - but Wilson danced around the Topic and didn’t really give a definitive answer about what happened, according to his perspective. A similar thing happened regarding theEric Stoltz issue in that episode. Ultimately, all of the answers will like this, and as a result, not a single anecdote or answer was interesting Or fascinating.
I don’t think it’s the interviewers fault, it did sound like you aiming for some really interesting answers from questions he gave. However, I guess because the guests he picks for any designated episode are still Filmmaker’s or Actor’s working in the industry. They don’t want to piss anyone off or tread on anyone’s shoes. So they give boring , middle of the road answers to literally every single question.
Mind you, I’ve only listen to 4 episodes in total and in full. And it might be that the rest of the show was great. It would be nice to be proven wrong. Because the interviewer is really good at interviewing, and on his part, the pace is consistent and brisk.
