JOIN OUR PATREON: https://patreon.com/SoberlySpeaking  This is the second and final part of Adnan's story. In part one, we met Adnan, a young man whose gambling addiction had taken over his daily habits and his life. After being kicked out of his local casino that he visited every single night, Adnan wanted revenge. Together with his friend Flako, he came up with a plan to rob the casino. At first, they were looking at breaking in through the tunnels below, but when that proved too difficult, they shifted to what felt like the easier option: hitting the cash trucks out the front as they arrived, carrying bags of money into the casino. The operation was elaborate. They replaced a manhole cover on the road and cut a matching hole into the floor of their van. The plan was to hit the truck, disappear into the tunnels below, and make their escape. As we rejoin the story now, Adnan and Flacco are camped out overnight, watching and waiting for these trucks to arrive... 📖 Book link: https://tinyurl.com/Arizona-Dream 📸 Instagram: @alisicadnan 📘 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/alisicadnanauthor Ready to share your story? Email: hello@soberlyspeaking.com.au Disclaimer: The stories and experiences shared in this episode are personal accounts told in good faith. Child Separation, Trauma & the Ex-Bank Robber: Jackie’s Story

Join our patreon: https://patreon.com/SoberlySpeaking  Jackie grew up in Singapore as a bilingual only child, raised in top schools and even finding early fame as a pop star. In a country where drug possession carried the death penalty, her life could not have looked more different to where it eventually led. After moving to Australia, a traumatic event one night changed everything. From that point on, Jackie began using substances to cope with what she had experienced. Following a marriage breakdown and being separated from her child in another country, she turned to what she knew would numb the pain. What followed was a cycle of dangerous relationships, each one more volatile than the last. After experiencing domestic violence and homelessness, Jackie found herself with an ex-bank robber facing serious charges. In an act of loyalty that would change her life, she took the blame for firearms-related offences and ended up in prison. It was there, stripped of everything, that Jackie realised no one was coming to save her. And for the first time, she got on her knees and started to pray. Bonus Ep: One Nang Led to a Nitrous Oxide Addiction for Sam

Join our Patreon: https://patreon.com/SoberlySpeaking  Nitrous oxide a.k.a. nangs, is something I’ve never spoken about on this platform before, yet it’s sold right under our noses. Tiny canisters are available over the counter in almost every tobacconist across Australia, legally accessible to anyone 18 and over. Sam Bramman was 18 when he first tried a nang at a party. Within just three weeks, he was repeatedly seeking it out, driving from shop to shop and waiting outside tobacconists for them to open. It then escalated rapidly. While in a manic state, Sam drove from Sydney to the Gold Coast, where he ended up in Surfers Paradise screaming at cars and damaging hotel rooms. Sam is now sharing his story publicly to raise awareness and advocate for changes to how easily nitrous oxide can be accessed in Australia, particularly among young people.Visit No 2 Nangs here: https://no2nangs.au/ Instagram: @sambramman Disclaimer: The stories and experiences shared in this episode are personal accounts told in good faith. JOIN THE UNSPOKEN: https://patreon.com/SoberlySpeaking This is one of those stories that feels fake until you hear it straight from the source. Adnan was born in war-torn Bosnia and fled to the United States as a teenager. He went on to become a highly successful businessman, but behind the wealth and the flashy cars was a secret he was living with every day: A gambling addiction that sometimes reached $50,000 USD a night. Then, one evening, everything changed. Adnan was kicked out of the casino, and as he was being escorted out, he made a decision: the next time he walked back through those doors, it wouldn’t be to gamble. It would be to rob the casino. What happened next led to one of the biggest casino heists in Arizona history. This is part one of a two-part interview. 📖 Book link: https://tinyurl.com/Arizona-Dream 📸 Instagram: @alisicadnan 📘 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/alisicadnanauthor Ready to share your story? Join our Patreon: https://patreon.com/SoberlySpeaking  Jay grew up in Geelong as a young gay dancer, supported at home but often made to feel different outside of it. His early experiences of bullying, trauma and assault shaped the way he saw himself, and how drinking and substances became a way to feel confident and finally accepted. After moving to Melbourne to study dance professionally, Jay found himself deep in the party scene, but what began as partying eventually escalated into harder substance use and reached a point where his family feared for his life. Jay speaks openly about hospitalisations, rehab, the moment he saw his dad cry for the first time and the long process of rebuilding his life. Now three and a half years sober, Jay works in the same detox facility he once went through himself. Taylah Smelt Rotting Flesh in Psychosis. Now She Dances Sober in the Streets (Subscriber Exclusive)

I first came across Taylah King online. It was a video of her dancing in broad daylight, completely sober, in front of a crowd of strangers. There was no stage, no performance, no alcohol, just Taylah twirling, spinning, and throwing her body around whilst a hillside of onlookers watched her. I could not stop thinking about that moment. How on earth could someone be that carefree, confident, and unrestrained without substances? Before becoming the vibrant person she is today, Taylah spent years in deep psychosis. At her lowest point, she was suicidal and wanting to end her life. She shares the journey that took her from the depths of mental illness, spiritual psychosis, and addiction to the life she lives today. Above all, I think this is a story about knowing something is hard, knowing something is embarrassing, but doing it anyway for your soul. Doing it because nothing has to make sense to anyone but yourself. Just doing the thing.
