    #38 Is Nervous System Regulation Becoming Another Form of Avoidance?

    In this episode, I explore something I’m noticing more and more in conversations around nervous system healing - the growing idea that being “regulated” means feeling calm all the time. While nervous system regulation is an important part of healing, I think we may be misunderstanding what it actually means. Humans are emotional beings, and emotions are not a problem to be eliminated. They are physiological and psychological responses that help us navigate our lives, our relationships, and our environment. In this episode, I talk about the difference between emotion and nervous system state, why many women in midlife were never shown how to experience emotions safely, and how modern regulation practices can sometimes become another way of avoiding difficult feelings rather than expanding our capacity to experience them. I also explore the relationship between emotional intensity and nervous system capacity, and why true regulation isn’t about becoming calm all the time - it’s about being able to feel more of your life without becoming overwhelmed by it.
