The Walnut and the Oak: Stories for Kind, Courageous Kids

The Walnut and The Oak

The Walnut and The Oak is a children’s storytelling podcast which uses imaginative stories and original music to support children’s mental health and help children build resilience, confidence, emotional awareness, and strong character. Created for neurodivergent and neurotypical children alike, the stories explore the big feelings, thoughts, worries, and challenges children face as they grow. Join Grandpa Banjo Bill and his trusty cat Potato as Grandpa Banjo Bill reads from the Golden Storybook found inside the Walnut and the Oak. Through lovable recurring characters and engaging adventures, children explore positive self-talk, anxiety and worries, courage, perseverance, emotional regulation, self-worth, growth mindset, the power of yet, letting go of grudges, inner peace, curiosity, imagination, and problem-solving. The stories encourage children to recognise negative or unhelpful thinking, challenge those thoughts, look for positive perspectives and solutions, and understand that mistakes, setbacks, and failure are all part of learning and growing. At The Walnut and The Oak, children are encouraged to keep trying when things feel hard, appreciate who they are right now while still growing, recognise their own strengths, and discover healthier ways to respond to the thoughts and feelings that can sometimes get in their way. These are stories made to entertain children while giving them ideas, language, and tools they can carry into their everyday lives. Beginning with Season Two, story episodes are joined by short companion mini episodes that explore the message in an age-appropriate way, along with original songs inspired by the stories and their themes. You can also find The Walnut and The Oak Music on Spotify, or enjoy the original music right here on the podcast. Welcome to The Walnut and The Oak. 🌳 Every story, lesson and character is created by me, Arizona Rain. I use AI to help draft scripts, which I then edit, and to create the music and Grandpa Banjo Bill's voice. From 1 November 2026, this is also mentioned at the start of each episode.

Lemon and The Mixed up Message | Kids Story About Kindly Standing Up For Yourself

A children's story about autism, friendship and misunderstandings, and knowing when you've already done your part. Lemon cares deeply about being a good friend, but sometimes conversations move faster than she can find the right words. When she tells Ziggy that friendship can feel difficult for her, Ziggy misunderstands and tells the others that Lemon finds them hard to be friends with. Lemon writes each friend a letter to explain what she meant and shares that she is autistic. Hazel and Fig understand, but Ziggy holds onto what she thought she heard. With Hazel's help, Lemon realises she listened, told the truth and did her best to clear things up, and that she doesn't have to keep explaining herself again and again. For ages 5–12, and especially meaningful for autistic children and their families. It's an easy way to talk with kids about communication, honesty and healthy boundaries in friendships. Parent tip: After listening, ask your child, "Have you ever tried to fix a misunderstanding? How did you know when you'd done enough?" The Walnut and the Oak: wholesome stories and songs to help kids grow kind, courageous hearts. AI Disclosure: Every story, lesson and character is created by me, Arizona Rain.
