Episode 5 Danielle Godfrey - From Detective to Advocate for Women & Girls Safety

Danielle Godfrey is a former Victorian Police Detective and Founder and Director of Girl Aware -a program empowering girls with practical personal safety skills through trauma informed workshops – she is also a Keynote speaker and passionate advocate for womens and girls safety  Danielle was a  Detective for 12 years experiencing multiple postings across metro and regional Victoria.  Due to multiple factors, Danielle left the Police force and sought out different opportunities including setting up a cleaning business – she was like many, a bit lost and a few years ago attended the Beyond The Badge Career Transition Program  Some time later she made a brave decision to set up her own business – as the Founder and Director of  Girl Aware, where she delivers practical personal safety, situational awareness and de-escalation training to women and girls, workplaces, organisations and community groups.  During her policing career, she saw firsthand how quickly everyday situations can change — and how recognising the early warning signs, trusting your instincts and knowing how to respond can make a significant difference. That experience now forms the foundation of her training. Her approach to personal safety isn’t about creating fear or assuming danger is around every corner. It’s about giving women practical skills and strategies they can use in everyday life — at work, travelling, exercising alone, walking to their car, dealing with difficult people or simply navigating situations that don't feel right.   The workshops cover situational awareness, recognising risk, assertive communication, personal boundaries, de-escalation and decision-making under pressure. Where appropriate, she also teaches simple, practical physical skills for situations where creating distance and leaving safely are no longer options.  As a mum of three, Danielle also understands that for many women, personal safety isn't only something they think about for themselves. It's something they think about for their daughters, colleagues, friends and families.   Danielle’s goal through Girl Aware is simple: to help women and girls feel more aware, more confident and better prepared — without teaching them to live in fear.  She works with businesses, schools, health and community organisations, sporting and fitness groups, and women's networks, with training tailored to the risks and experiences of each audience.  Danielle is based in NSW and available for workshops and speaking engagements across Australia. Episode 2 - Rosie Skene - "Triumph Beyond Trauma"

Welcome to Episode 2 – and I am very excited to welcome our guest today – Rosie Skene  Rosie Skene is  the Founder of Tactical Yoga Australia and the creator of "The First Responder Mental Wellness Method." Bringing together her professional expertise and personal journey, She offers a distinctive approach to the program. As a Fully Qualified Yoga Teacher (300hr) and a medically retired New South Wales Police Officer, Rosie's commitment to mental wellness is deeply rooted in her own path of healing and recovery. Rosie spent  12 years in the NSW Police Force, serving in various roles, including Operational Safety Instructor (OSI) specialising in Weapons & Tactics, General Duties, Specialist Youth Policing, and Domestic Violence Policing. Her direct exposure to the challenging world of law enforcement has provided her with a profound understanding of the unique stressors and emotional challenges faced by first responders. Her Marriage to an ADF Soldier has exposed her to the same challenges experienced by veterans. Following her departure in 2017 and subsequent medical retirement in 2019, Rosie focused wholeheartedly on her own mental wellness journey. Incorporating strategies suggested by her psychologist alongside yoga, breathwork, and mindfulness, she personally experienced the transformative benefits of these practices and moved from Post Traumatic Stress to Post Traumatic Growth without the need for prescription medications. Integrating her background as a Police Officer, OSI, and  expertise as a qualified yoga teacher, Rosie  developed "The First Responder Mental Wellness Method." Her objective is to empower fellow first responders and veterans to enhance their mental wellness and discover strength in their healing process. With her unique perspective, having faced similar challenges, Rosie aims to offer compassionate support and guidance to those ready to take steps toward improved mental well-being. Rosie has gone on to start her own Podcast – Triumph Beyond Trauma- which has provided amazing insights and inspiration to so many through some 60 episodes – personally I thought Episode  15 was pretty good  Rosie is about to embark on another project and has just opened her own Driving School in Coffs Harbour NSW  Welcome Rosie  Links: Tactical Yoga & Triumph Beyond Trauma – Podcasts     https://tacticalyogaaustralia.com/ Coffs Coast Driving Academy:     https://www.facebook.com/share/1B97EroFuZ/?mibextid=wwXIfr Beyond The Badge Australia https://www.beyondthebadge.com.au/ https://www.facebook.com/beyondthebadgeaustralia/ https://www.instagram.com/beyond.thebadge/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFKA6QYQowvKOHkm0h99Crg Contact us at      https://www.beyondthebadge.com.au/
