    Heaven and Earth Re-newed

“Son,’he said,’ ye cannot in your present state understand eternity...That is what mortals misunderstand. They say of some temporal suffering, “No future bliss can make up for it,” not knowing that Heaven, once attained, will work backwards and turn even that agony into a glory. And of some sinful pleasure they say “Let me have but this and I’ll take the consequences”: little dreaming how damnation will spread back and back into their past and contaminate the pleasure of the sin. Both processes begin even before death. The good man’s past begins to change so that his forgiven sins and remembered sorrows take on the quality of Heaven: the bad man’s past already conforms to his badness and is filled only with dreariness. And that is why...the Blessed will say “We have never lived anywhere except in Heaven, : and the Lost, “We were always in Hell.” And both will speak truly.” ―C.S. Lewis,The Great Divorce A few of the verses we discussed, organized by category… The New Heavens and New Earth * Isaiah 65:17 – “See, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.” * Isaiah 66:22 – “As the new heavens and the new earth that I make will endure before me,” declares the Lord, “so will your name and descendants endure.” * 2 Peter 3:13 – “But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.” * Revelation 21:1 – “Then I saw ‘a new heaven and a new earth,’ for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.” * Revelation 21:3-5 – “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” The Reality of Heaven * John 14:2-3 – “In my Father’s house are many rooms... I am going there to prepare a place for you.” * Hebrews 11:10 – “For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.” * Matthew 6:10 – “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” * Psalm 16:11 – “You fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” * Revelation 22:3 – “No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him.” Citizenship in Heaven * Philippians 3:20 – “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.” * 1 Peter 2:11 – “Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.” * 2 Corinthians 5:20 – “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.” * Colossians 3:1-2 – “Set your hearts on things above... Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” * Ephesians 2:19 – “Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household.” * Luke 10:20 – “Do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” * 1 Peter 1:4 – “...and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you.” The Glorified Body * 1 Corinthians 15:42-44 – “The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.” * 1 Corinthians 15:51-53 – “We will all be changed—in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye... For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.” * Philippians 3:21 – “[He] will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.” * 1 John 3:2 – “But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.” * 2 Corinthians 5:1 – “For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.” This is a public episode. 2. Faith and Our Mind

    Faith and Our Mind

Social Pressure, Religious Hurt and Jesus #christianity #christmasNow there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”“How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”“How can this be?” Nicodemus asked.“You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and do you not understand these things? Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man. Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.John Testifies Again About JesusAfter this, Jesus and his disciples went out into the Judean countryside, where he spent some time with them, and baptized. Now John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there was plenty of water, and people were coming and being baptized. (This was before John was put in prison.)An argument developed between some of John’s disciples and a certain Jew over the matter of ceremonial washing. They came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, that man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan—the one you testified about—look, he is baptizing, and everyone is going to him.”To this John replied, “A person can receive only what is given them from heaven. You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I am not the Messiah but am sent ahead of him.’ The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. He must become greater; I must become less.”The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all. He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony. Whoever has accepted it has certified that God is truthful. For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit. The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life... This text is from the Gospel of John 3 This is a public episode. 3. Longing For God & Our Eternal Dwelling

Longing For God & Our Eternal Dwelling

When you place your life in Jesus—trusting, having faith—you are made a new creation. The wonder of this (that i’d like to talk about today) is the freedom from condemnation and judgment: John 5 - “…whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.” (ESV) You are free, justified, and made whole. While this does not mean you will never sin, there is nothing to fear concerning your Savior’s return, for He has washed away all your wrongdoing. The Longing for Renewal Despite our new life in Christ, we still feel a deep yearning for the world to be set right. As the Apostle Paul speaks about (see verses below), our soul, heart, and mind are longing for that new creation—the final renewing of all things. We desire justice because we know that Jesus is good, He is with us, and He makes all things right. The Return of the King Jesus is the King and the Lord. He will return to judge the nations, but the timing remains a mystery—no one knows the time it will happen, only the Father, as is clear from Scripture. New Creation (Apostle Paul’s Perspective) * Romans 8:19, 22-23: For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God... For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves... groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. * 2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. Romans 8 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies 2 Corinthians 5 For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, if indeed by putting it on we will not be found naked... For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.
