Still Great At Eight, We Ditched The Seven Year Itch! | Darren Kelk & Members - 10

You only get one 8th birthday! Well, break out the streamers and candles because at Fresh Networking it's our year for it.    This is particularly worth celebrating in business as we've all heard about the seven year itch. Staying relevant, 'fresh' and excited long-term takes commitment, dedication and effort. Three cheers for Fresh as it leaves that 'itch' behind and rolls into seven years feeling vibrant and accomplished.  This episode is a birthday celebration to reflect on the eight years of beginning something new (the very first Fresh get-together where it all began), right through to the building of an entire nationwide (and somewhat international) community. The lessons learned, the skills acquired, the peaks, the troughs, the friendships, the experiences and most of all the business support, education and exponential growth.    Tiffanee Cook (the Host and Producer of Let's Get Fresh) speaks to Darren Kelk (His Royal Freshness, the Founder of Fresh) about the journey and amidst this conversation you'll hear snippets of feedback from a handful of our members - Laura Litcanu, Sana Hosseini, Shaun Resnik, Jo Fisher, Hayley Meeking and Emily Potter.   If there's one thing we love at Fresh amidst all the grown-up stuff around business and networking, it's the fun, friendships and the celebration of our successes along the way... so we invite you to pour yourself a birthday champagne and sit in on the party with this episode.  Sponsored By Darren Kelk | Travel Managers Australia | www.travelmanagers.com.au/ptm/DarrenKelk/  Check out Fresh Networking and visit a café or online hub today www.freshnetworking.com.au

Preparing For Battle In Business | Derrick McManus - 8

Five seconds can make or break us. Five seconds can be a fleeting moment or can feel like an eternity. A lot can happen in five seconds but it’s how we prepare for that five seconds that counts. Today’s guest Derrick McManus was perforated 14 times in under five seconds when 14 of the 18 bullets fired at him from a semi automatic assault rifle hit their target. He lay on the ground bleeding to death for three hours before his counterparts could safely get to him. It is what he did leading up to this moment that allowed Derrick to live to tell this story and believe it or not there is a lot of valuable wisdom we as business owners can draw from his training and experience. Derrick was a South Australian Police officer operating in the elite Special Tasks And Rescue (STAR) Group.  He held specialist skills as a sniper, diver and was trained by the military elite Special Air Services Regiment (SAS) in counter-terrorist tactics. This is a physically, mentally and emotionally demanding environment.  It is an extreme, potentially overwhelming, volatile environment in every way. Derrick had proactively prepared himself physically, mentally and emotionally for the challenges he could expect as a result of the choices he had made.  He took responsibility for his actions and for all possible consequences. Today he is sharing his insights in how we as business owners can physically, mentally and emotionally prepare ourselves for what we may expect to encounter in the world of business and life. He/She/They, Why Inclusion Matters | Dr. Paula Stone Williams - 6

As you (hopefully) know by now, our values at Fresh revolve heavily around community, teamwork and personal growth. So in line with this, we wanted to open the educational door for a casual conversation around inclusion and equity both in our businesses and in our personal lives. Why? Well for a start, research shows that gender diversity in business results in a 15% increase to profitability. In addition to that,we are living amidst an evolving landscape of terminology and language, and in order to continue to build strong relationships in business (and life) and to provide safe, inclusive environments resulting in high performing businesses and opportunities, it is important that we have an awareness on and a desire to learn about how our language and labelling might positively or negatively affect our team members, colleagues, clients and customers. Now, as I host this conversation I'll be the first to raise my hand to admit that with all the best of intentions, I'm still wearing my LGBTQI and gender identity 'L' plates and I certainly ride the clutch a number of times as we discuss some of the nuances of pronouns, gender and personal identity. I hope we open the door slightly for those who are not familiar and perhaps tentative when it comes to how to address our LGBTQI friends.
