The PD Series: Understanding Women's Experiences with Parkinson's

Women's experience of Parkinson's often differ vastly from their counterparts. They're less likely to be included in research, and more likely to be misdiagnosed, being told that 'it's just menopause' or 'it's just your hormones'. We all need to remember that the Parkinson's community is diverse in age, colour, sex, and gender. The textbook representation of a person with Parkinson's as an older white male with stooped posture, is simply not accurate or inclusive enough. Current healthcare systems and the research world don't account for this as much as it could. This episode of Light Listening, welcomed a panel of women involved the Parkinson's and women's health space, to speak about their experiences with medical gaslighting, societal pressure, stigma, identity, and more. This is the recording of that event, for anyone who wanted to catch up or simply watch it again. *This podcast is for informational purposes only and does not constitute medical advice.
