  1. Twin Picks: FROGS x SLUGS

    Twin Picks: FROGS x SLUGS

It’s about that time…the time…for SLIME… Comparing two swampy creature features, Noah and Eliza wonder if there are some animals that simply are not scary enough to power a horror movie. Juan Piquer Simon’s 1988 movie SLUGS sics millions of black, writhing, gooey gastropods on a small town of hilariously hateful and rude characters, resulting in some gnarly SFX moments and sexual subtext. But 1972’s FROGS doesn’t have nearly enough critters!! It’s got Sam Elliott and an interesting bayou mansion setting, but not enough actual webbed-hands-around-throats action :( Which film is the scariest and the squishiest? Do these movies actually make us care more about the environment or just wanna stomp it to death? How did Noah overcome his childhood leech fear ? All good questions but u won’t get answers today, we’re talking about other frog and slug stuff you couldn’t possibly comprehend. U can listen in and try though. ribbit. SHOW NOTES: TRIPLET IN THE ATTIC: Noah’s critter movie recommendations: The Bay , Long Weekend, Tremors Eliza’s assorted shrieking frog memes (sorry I could not find the actual amazing clip in question of one chill frog and one loser frog battling one another maybe it was a dream who knows): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dM-GEnvlkRM + https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaLTeyPFP_0&list=PLxCZu_T6u7IYWUsagWNHr7kWGe8O9kFrf&index=378 + https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IV5o1E8NPMQ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IV5o1E8NPMQ)VISIT-OUR-WEBSITE = midnightscreeningproductions.com Become ONE_OF_US here on Patreon INSTAGRAM FACEBOOK LETTERBOXD midnightscreeningproductions@gmail.com Sound: Anthony Carr Art: Kazuki Komatsu NEXT EPISODE = Midnight Marathon: BRIGHT FUTURE x RETRIBUTION // Kiyoshi Kurosawa Part 3

Twin Picks: FESTEN x JULIEN DONKEY BOY x TRASH HUMPER ?? feat. Underground Film Collective !!

Who let the dogme out ?? Our fingers are aimed squarely at returning pals PARKER AND FLYNN of Sydney’s @underground.film.collective !! they let the dogme out !! Inspired by Lars von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg’s ‘Vows of Chastity’ and how they can inform rawer, truer, more POWERFUL cinema, we get into the first (and probably best??) movie made in accordance with the Dogme 95 manifesto: Vinterberg’s dark, funny and provocative family reunion drama FESTEN/THE CELEBRATION. No script, lighting, non-diegetic music, ‘superficial action’ allowed !! Real shit only !!! Remembering David Stratton !!! Discussing the crabs-in-a-bucket phenomenon! Incredible conversational segues ! And ya maybe everybody didn’t watch second pick JULIEN DONKEYBOY, Harmony Korine’s crack at Dogme glory, but isn’t that so profoundly Dogme yknow ? Let the chaos wash over you like your seventh red wine at a disastrous family event… SHOW NOTES: CONTENT WARNING: The films we discuss in today's episode contain heavy themes of sexual assault, incest and abuse.
