Ep. 37: Après Chic
Pack your gear and get your slut strands out ... the mountains are calling! Inspired by a recent nepo baby pilgrimage to Aspen, we discuss fashion's love affair with ski glam through the decades. Blinded by the reflection of sunlight on snow, and moonlight on "snow" *sniff sniff* ... We explore Aspen's transformation from countercultural ski bum sanctuary to billionaire resort town and discuss our personal compatibilities with Eileen Gu, Hunter S. Thompson, and Shaun White.
Ep. 36: Lost Generation III
In this episode, we herald the arrival of a new Lost Generation: shaggy-haired, slouchy-clothed, plagued by malaise and anachronistic sensitivity, and soundtracked by 80s British synth-pop. Armed with an impressive library of cultural references—the films of Whit Stillman and John Hughes, the novels of Donna Tartt and Bret Easton Ellis, the music of the Second British Invasion— we discuss the legacy of the Global North Bildungsroman and its adjacent timeless aesthetic.
Ep. 35: Global South-core
In our final episode of 2022, we unpack the wave of Global South media overtaking (and possibly decolonizing) our social media feeds. We discuss Bella Hadid’s epic pilgrimages to the Middle East, Brazilian child dance battles, M.I.A.‘s groundbreaking globalist maximalism, ethnic fan fictions of the modern day, and more. Happy New Year ... We are the world!!
Ep. 34: Pop Culture Satanism
In this episode, we discuss the malignant malevolence of the year’s most sensational pop culture scandals. From Baal-en-ciaga’s Satanic photoshoots, to Travis Scott’s mysterious Astroworld tragedy, we peruse the rising sense of moral panic in public discourse while clutching our rosary beads against creeping threats of misinformation surrounding these tabloid torrents.
Ep. 33: Beauty Pseudoscience
This week, we tackle a topic that doubles as a prerequisite at Nymphet Alumni University: beauty pseudosciences, from Kibbe body typing to color seasons and seduction archetypes. We consider beauty as capital, how the rising popularity of these systems on social media represents a reaction to body positivity, and the dangers of masculine and feminine energy discourse on TikTok.
Ep. 32: Old Hollywood
This week, we put the spotlight on contemporary Hollywood's current love affair with Old Hollywood. We spelunk into the hole at the center of the Marilyn/Norma Jean enigma and unpack the symptoms of female movie star pathology and "I'm a star!" hysterics. We also discuss the security of artifice and the timeless allure of Golden Age red carpet styling. This very cinephilic episode features dialogues on recent hits such as Blonde and Pearl, upcoming titles like Babylon and Barbarella, and classics such as Spartacus and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
So fresh love these ladies
Three somewhat class conscious and very well read girls have good conversations about micro-celebrity, niche culture and ultra-specific fashion trends and their cultural neighbours. In 20 years this will either be the most fascinating window into different, but remembered times or totally incomprehensible; impenetrable without its own research undertaking. For now it’s throughly interesting and entertaining.
