    Nothing sticks like Omnipod!

    Nothing sticks like Omnipod!

Chatsters (fans of P2 Diabetes Chat podcast!) know just how much P1 and P2 love to explore new diabetes technology! In this episode they get their chat on exploring the Omnipod DASH, an insulin delivery system for people with type 1 diabetes in Australia.

As usual, Credentialled Diabetes Educators Jayne Lehmann and Kirrily Chambers deliver an episode with their honest opinions about Omnipods' features and experience supporting people with diabetes to use the device. As usual their humorous asides and the friendly banter see these very experienced gals of diabetes entertain as much as inform your understanding of another technology option in the diabetes treatment toolkit. Listen in to find out how the quirky episode title came about!

1 light bulb + lived experience = better diabetes health for people with disability

1 light bulb + lived experience = better diabetes health for people with disability

Jayne Lehmann (RN and CDE) and Kirrily Chambers (Pharmacist and CDE) explore the inaccessibility of health services and how it contributes to the 20 - 32 year shorter life expectancy of people with intellectual disability, like Jayne's daughter, Sarah. Hear about the light bulb moment Kirrily gave Jayne when she was packing Sarah's Webster Packs after Sarah left home ... You will be shocked, and just a little amazed, by the insights P1 and P2 reveal during their chat, that includes statistics from the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia's report on Medicine Safety: Disability Care. Jayne puts her 'skin in the game' to good use to inspire health professionals across Australia to use her inside tips on communicating with people with communication challenges. As promised during the podcast, Jayne created a new resource for health services to download and use to talk to people with intellectual disability you see in your health services. After you listen to the episode, go on over to EdHealth Australia's website (www.edhealth.com.au/P2DiabetesChat) for the Extra Bits to help you deliver better health care for people with an intellectual disability to live longer and healthier lives. N.B. WARNING: Diabetes sick days just got sicker!

WARNING: Diabetes sick days just got sicker!

Australian Credentialled Diabetes Educators Jayne Lehmann and Kirrily Chambers chat about Kirrily's recent Ambulance callout. Along the way, they reflect on the way COVID's placing a premium on hospital beds, the flow-on impact on Ambulance services, Accident and Emergency (A&E) Departments and what you can expect if you manage to get taken to A&E. This leads them to ask the question: Do people with diabetes need to re-visit their sick day plans to stay safe when they are sick? First published 18/5/2022.

Give them an inch ... and before you know it they're prescribing!

Give them an inch ... and before you know it they're prescribing!

Once again Credentialled Diabetes Educators Jayne Lehmann (RN) and Kirrily Chambers (Pharmacist) (AKA P1 and P2) get their chat on about non-medical prescribing, prompted by Queensland's planned trial of prescribing for pharmacists. Our intrepid duo move onto the challenges many Credentialled Diabetes Educators face in the course of their work around medications and the challenge this causes around scope of practice for the range of health professions making up the Credentialled Diabetes Educator workforce. Oh ... and Jayne coins a new word ... 'Departmentable', which she gifts to Kirrily. First published 19/2/2022.

I really enjoyed that Kirrily and Jayne! I’ve had a stressful couple of weeks of healthcare provision in Covid times, and I haven’t had capacity to practice to my full clinical skills. This podcast today has been just what I needed to lift me up again

Thanks
