When Fortune Favours the Foolish
With stagnating or arguably contracting economic conditions continuing for the foreseeable future, is it really worth investing in advertising, branding and consumer engagement? We unpack this question with a zoom in on the recent Perth Pool & Spa Consumer Expo in WA where the January 2024 local state figures show that, unemployment rose, retail prices contracted and overall spending was down. Room to improve
The podcast has some interesting information but overall suffers from groupthink, a lack of diversity, and a lack of engagement.
The hosts mention how the pool industry is improving with lots of innovation. I would love to see them investigate the innovations in greater detail and explain how and why they are worthwhile for business owners and the end user. To really engage listeners they should create more narrative and take us on a journey. Listen to differing opinions and explain to us why the opinion presented is the right one.
They also suggest that the industry is diversifying with more young people, and women. Where are they? How about diversity in other aspects such as gender, educational and cultural background, sexuality, and skin colour? A truly diverse range of voices invites new perspectives and promotes better ideas and more critical evaluation of existing ideas. I would love to see more of that!
