God Through the Eyes of Sexual Abuse Survivors - With Susan M. Shaw & Grace Ji-Sun Kim

This week I had the privilege of being joined by Susan M. Shaw & Grace Ji-Sun Kim to discuss their new book "Surviving God: A New Vision of God Through the Eyes of Sexual Abuse Survivors". It is no secret that Sexual Abuse is a HUGE problem; not just in society as a whole, but within the doors of the Church as well. Grace and Susan both share their own experiences and the experiences of other survivors to help call out the systems and ideologies that are at play that lend themselves to sexual violence and abuse. Our theology is called into question as well as Grace and Susan invite us to look at our understanding of God through the eyes of sexual abuse survivors. I hope this conversation is both challenging and rewarding. Enjoy.

We Were Emogelicals™ - With Jed Payne

We Were Emogelicals™ - With Jed Payne

This week I got to hang out with my favorite internet friend Jed Payne. Jed is an Addiction Councilor and hosts a podcast called "Church and Other Drugs". We had a fun time together as we both chased our ADHD train of thoughts. We discussed Jed's Philosophy class, certainty, past versions of our selves, never going full Rob Bell, the nature of addiction, time spent in prison, I taught Jed a new word, and we even coined our own... WE ARE THE EMOGELICALS™. This was a great conversation that covers a lot of ground and explores a variety of topics. Enjoy!

A Theopoetics of the Cross- With Brian Zahnd

A Theopoetics of the Cross- With Brian Zahnd

This week Brian Zahnd returns to the podcast to discuss his new book, "The Wood Between Worlds: A Poetic Theology of the Cross". Let's be honest... after deconstruction talking about the cross can be very difficult! In fact a lot of stuff we have been taught about the cross should be thrown out, but do we have to ditch the cross all together? Brian thinks not!
Instead, Brian offers us a Theopoetics of the cross. He contends that the cross is BIGGER than any atonement theory and to reduce the cross to atonement is to do an injustice to the cross. Instead, Brian offers us image after image to expand and make deeper our understanding of whatever the hell happened on the cross. Enjoy!

    Consciousness & Demons & Epistemology, Oh My! 20ish Q's - With Myron A. Penner

    Consciousness & Demons & Epistemology, Oh My! 20ish Q's - With Myron A. Penner

This week our favorite Canadian Mennonite Philosopher and Friend Myron A. Penner is back on the show. He was brave enough to volunteer for an episode of 20ish Q's. I recycled some old questions and wrote some new ones just for Myron. This was a fun and wide-ranging conversation and I loved hearing Myron's answers. Enjoy!

Environmental Ethics & the Philosophy of Organism - With Brian G. Henning

Environmental Ethics & the Philosophy of Organism - With Brian G. Henning

This week I was joined by Dr. Brian G. Henning to discuss his new book, "Value, Beauty & Nature: The Philosophy of Organism and the Metaphysical Foundations of Environmental Ethics". "Grounded in an organicist process worldview, Brian G. Henning shows that it is possible to make progress in key debates within environmental philosophy, including those concerning the nature of intrinsic value; anthropocentrism; hierarchy; the moral significance of beauty; the nature of individuality; teleology and the naturalistic fallacy; and worldview reconstruction. A Whiteheadian fallibilistic, naturalistic, event ontology allows for the recovery of systematic, speculative metaphysical thought without a revanchist movement toward a necessitarian philosophia perennis. Thus, in contrast to the claims of environmental pragmatists, Value, Beauty, and Nature demonstrates that environmental ethics would greatly benefit from an adequate metaphysical foundation and, of the candidate metaphysical systems, Alfred North Whitehead's philosophy of organism is the most adequate." Enjoy!
