If you lead in revenue, you have learned to talk about pressure. Mental health, resilience, burnout, the plan for the quarter- all of it now gets an airing. The one thing that almost never comes up is what sits underneath it: what you actually put in your body on the days you need the most from it. This episode is about fuel. I sit down with Selina Prager, a nutritionist who works with leaders and with organisations, and who I met on a management course about eighteen months ago when we were both building our companies. We ended up walking around North London talking strategy, and she kept turning the conversation back to food. It gave me a handful of aha moments I have not been able to unsee since. Her line is that your body is your only home. If you were a racing driver, you would never tell yourself the car doesn't matter. Your focus, your mood, how you land with a customer or a difficult stakeholder- all of it arrives through a body that is either fuelled or running on nothing, and you cannot willpower your way through a marathon. We work through four levels 1. What is shifting inside companies, and why she now sits with the COO and the CFO rather than HR. 2. What a leader can do for themselves, which starts before food, with sleep, daylight, hydration and some movement. 3. What teams need, which turns out to be less about telling people what to eat and more about giving them the space to eat at all. 4. And what changes for more experienced people, through perimenopause and menopause, and then for all of us, when blood sugar, muscle mass and cardiovascular health stop being optional. We also do an honest stretch on the fruit basket, and why the perk is a band-aid when the culture around it hasn't changed. We get into the protein noise: the hundred-and-fifty-gram claims doing the rounds, what the longevity research actually supports, and the nutrient most of us quietly miss while we count protein. And there is one technique I have used almost every week since we recorded: HALT. Before you reach for the chocolate bar at four o'clock, check whether you are hungry, angry or anxious, lonely, or tired. Usually it is not hunger. Selina Prager is a nutritionist working in diet and lifestyle medicine with leaders, teams and organisations, and is relaunching a longevity clinic in London with her mentor. Seen Differently began this summer, in 2026, from a simple urge to take a breather and look at work differently. If you want to explore how Selina works with her clients, you will find her below. Takeaways 1. Your body is your only home, and leadership is a tennis match rather than a marathon. Build the breaks in before you need them, because the people who take the most breaks tend to get the most done. 2. A grounded read on the protein noise: roughly one gram per kilo of body weight; more is not better, and fibre is the far harder target to hit. 3. A tool you can use this week: HALT. Hungry, angry or anxious, lonely or tired. Check those four before you reach for anything at four o'clock.
