    Episode 14: Stuart Lummis, Non Executive Director at Brisbane Markets Limited

    In this episode Patrick sits down with Stuart Lummis (FAICD) Stuart has extensive experience in large publicly listed ASX groups, not-for-profit organisations, and Government agencies.  His primary focus has been within the not-for-profit sector, delivering services to Health & Allied Health Services, Disability, provision of specialist disability accommodation, Childcare, Aged Care, Retirement Living development, Community Housing & crisis accommodation, provision of domestic violence, accommodation and transitional support, property development and construction / project management. He has qualifications in Project & Construction Management, Economics, Accounting. He understand and has participated in all facets of property ownership and development, from master planning and initial feasibility analysis, development & construction, through to refurbishment and initiation of preventative maintenance programmes, to the on sale of non-core assets.  He combines his non-Executive and committee appointments with a demanding executive career.     Episode 13: Dr Andrew Khoo, Psychiatrist and expert in PTSD

    In this episode of Seen & Herd, Patrick Herd sits down with psychiatrist Dr Andrew Khoo who is an expert in post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD. The topic: strategies for leaders dealing with mental health in the workplace. Dr Andrew Khoo attained his fellowship from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists in 2002, receiving a College Medal for his final year dissertation on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD. He has, for the last 20 years, overseen the provision of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy or CBT based group therapy for PTSD, mood, and anxiety disorders at the Toowong Private Hospital, holding the position of Director of this unit since 2004.  In 2016, he was nominated to the position of Director of Medical Services and Chair of the Medical Council at TPH which is recognised as a specialist facility in PTSD, military, and veteran’s mental health. He holds academic title with the University of Queensland within the School of Medicine and has published and continues to publish academic papers in peer reviewed psychiatric journals.  He is the Chair of the RANZCP Committee for the Military, Veterans and Emergency Services Personnel Mental Health Network. He advises numerous (too many to list out) government departments, military, police, and emergency services as an expert consultant and has participated in a number of significant reviews into military and veteran suicide. He is an advisor in medical research foundations and a member of the medical assessment tribunals. He has chaired, been interviewed, presented, or participated on panels around Australia and across all media platforms on Post Trauma psychological reactions and Military, Veteran’s and Emergency Service Worker's mental health.     Episode 12: Peter Fullagar, Principal of Nudgee College, Brisbane.

    In this edition, Patrick Herd sits down with Peter Fullagar,  Principal of Nudgee College in Brisbane.  The topic: the future role our schools play in developing communities of choice. Peter has spent his 40 + year career in education. Originally training as a specialist physical education teacher then moving progressively through middle management and now in senior executive roles as Principal of Nudgee College in Brisbane. He is currently Acting Director of Schools for Edmund Rice Education Australia Queensland. Most of his experience is in boys’ education where has held senior roles at independent colleges such as Gregory Terrace and Iona College in Brisbane and St Edmunds College in Canberra. Peter is a member of the Association Heads of Independent Schools of Australia and Member of the International Boy’s Schools Coalition. He is a Board member of St Rita’s College, an all-girls school in Brisbane and is an active community member of his local Catholic Parish.     Episode 11: Kate Venables, Executive Director CatholicCare Toowoomba

    In this episode of Seen & Herd, Patrick sits down with Kate Venables, Executive Director of CatholicCare in Toowoomba QLD.  The topic of their conversation is the future of Church and Charitable organisations providing social services to rural, regional, and remote communities.  Kate has spent the last 20 years working in the social services sector across Central QLD and the Darling Downs and South-West Queensland. Working with teams who provide services to families and individuals needing support, refugees, and migrants, our first nation peoples and separated parents, Kate is aware of the many vulnerabilities and complexities of our varied communities across SW Qld as well as the enormous resilience they are able to develop.   Kate is also the President of the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce, the largest regional Chamber in Australia, a member of the Regional Development Australia Board for SWQ, a member of the Toowoomba Catholic Schools Council, and an executive member of the St Bart’s Anglican parish council, finance committee and risk governance committee.     Episode 10: Raising children and the challenges of modern-day parenting with Michael Herd

    Michael Herd is a Developmental Psychologist who has spent 40-years learning how to best support parents who struggle to enjoy their children. The key, he has found, is to not just give expert parenting advice, but to use a self-regulatory process where parents are supported to build their capacity to problems solve their own parenting challenges. The topic of this podcast is Raising Children – Practical Solutions to the challenges of modern-day parenting. During this 40-year experience Michael has worked with children and families as a teacher, guidance officer and psychologist (and he’s still going). As a guidance officer, he spent 18 of those years working in a clinical program called the Management of Young Children Program. This is an intensive behaviour support program for parents of children 2½ to 7 years of age, who were being very challenging for their parents.   For the last 12 years he has worked in a private child clinic while also working as a Contract Trainer with Triple P International (TPI).  TPI is a private company who has the rights from the University of Queensland to deliver the training to practitioners in all the parenting interventions developed by the university.  Michael is now working full time for TPI and is the Deputy Head of Training for Australia and New Zealand.  He has trained practitioners in Triple P Programs across Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, the UK and the USA.   Michael has a PhD in psychology from the University of Queensland and has an intensifying passion for understanding the challenges of parenting, and how to best support parents to enjoy their children.  Michael also happens to be Patrick's brother. During the Podcast patrick will be delving into Michael’s background, asking what attracted him to this fascinating field and posing a few ‘big society questions’. Michael has some practical tips to share on positive parenting behaviours and loads of stories to share.

    Episode 9: Andrew Elvin, CEO Coast2Bay Housing Group

Andrew has been the CEO of Coast2Bay Housing Group for over 6 years. Andrew is also a QLD Regional Director of Community Housing Industry Association (CHAI) which is the peak industry body for community housing in Australia and provides one in five of all Australia’s social housing properties. Andrew has a substantial experience in implementing ground-breaking community driven programmes.  During the Podcast Patrick asks Andrew about what attracted him to working in community and affordable housing sector.  Andrew has some important insights to share on the future of affordable housing and Coast2Bay's part in helping to solve Australia’s housing crisis.     Episode 8 - Jo Geurts, CEO Eureka Community Kindergarten

    Jo Geurts is the CEO of Eureka Community Kindergarten Association or ECKA in Victoria and has spent the past 25 year directly involved in kindergarten management and is passionate about equitable access to early education for all children. Jo was a member of the founding committee of ECKA in 2003 and assisted the group to develop the original business model. Jo is a passionate advocate for children and the Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) sector and is involved in many community and government networks and forums that advocate for the needs of both children and ECEC service providers.   Jo strives to achieve the best outcomes for all children within ECKA’s services and leads and supports all staff within ECKA to deliver high quality programs to realise the potential in all children. Jo has 20 years’ experience of participation on Committees and Boards and is a life member of the Early Learning Association Australia. Jo has been a member of the Early Childhood Development Group providing sector advice and support to the Department of Education and Training and State Government since 2005. In this Podcast, Jo chats with Patrick on her career in early childhood education, her views on the importance of investing in lifelong learning for 0 – 5 years and how to lead for a positive change.

    Episode 7 - Nick Ryan, CEO Lutheran Services

    Nick Ryan is an experienced CEO, Board Member and senior executive with 30 years’ experience in a range of human services industries including aged care, government, youth services and education. He has led and advised a variety of organisations from government departments, industry representative bodies, not for profit service providers and charities. In May 2019 Mr Ryan joined Lutheran Services from an interim position of CEO at Southern Cross Care Queensland.  Prior to this he was CEO of the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency and CEO of Aged Care Queensland (now a part of Leading Age Services Australia).  He has also served on the Boards of the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority and the Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland. Mr Ryan is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand School of Government and a graduate of the Yarra Theological Union and the University of Canberra.
