Identifying Talent & The Power of Networking with William Gone

Sup gang - welcome to Episode 61 of Slaaap Haaapy!! I was super privileged to have New York native William Gone come through and sit down with rūku and I for a deep chat on all things music, marketing and hip-hop. Will has a strong history navigating many circles of the entertainment industry both in America and Australia and brought with him a wealth of information and knowledge. During the conversation we covered a range of topics, starting from his introduction to the industry via the mail room at Madonna's own record label Maverick Records, to his time at Universal Music and more recently his adventures managing R&B talent Andre Winter. Through his tenure at Maverick and Universal, Will spent time with some of the most powerful people in hip-hop and has played a role in finding and developing American rap powerhouses Crucial Conflict and Bishop Nehru. Will has a genuine love for hip-hop and an infectious energy when it comes to managing talent and unlocking new levels of hustle, the man genuinely lives and breathes this stuff and he was so great to chat to. The Silver Lining From Loss & What's Next with Talakai

Sup gang - welcome to Episode 60 of Slaaap Haaapy!! Back in the day I would regularly make the trip up to Newcastle from the Central Coast to play shows. Newcastle's hip-hop scene at the time was bubbling, with local promoters like Micks King, Geezer & The Madhouse Collective and MITUS putting on shows at really frequent interval... there was always an opportunity to jump on the mic if you were hungry enough. At these shows I would often run into Talakai, a young MC with a rapid flow and all the braggadocio of a local superstar. Like all other MC's I saw him as competition, but we became friendly and would often support each other at these shows. I loved his beat choices, as he would often rap over some of the harder/bassier style of beats that I also really enjoyed. After years of twists and turns with our own unique journey's through music and hip-hop playing out, we finally get a chance to sit down and properly catch up and chat about Tala's rise over the last few years, as well as some of the highs and lows that he has experienced in getting to this place. We get to touch on the meaning behind his first ever song release, some of the epic highlights of touring with Australia's hottest rap property in ChillinIT, as well as what's next for the Novocastrian ninja of rap. My First Fight Experience (A Review)

Sup gang - welcome to Episode 58 of Slaaap Haaapy!! I recently embarked on the journey of a lifetime. About 2 months ago I was presented an opportunity, one that I saw very differently in the initial phases, but one that grew into something much more beautiful and came to be really quite formative. I trained like a fighter for 2 months and prepared for my first ever boxing match. I lost the fight, but gained so much knowledge and insight into what it is to be human and what is required to excel and to master something. I loved every second of the experience and although at times struggled and wasn't sure that I would be able to make it through, knew that I was on the right path and continued to find ways to push myself. I am so grateful to this experience and everyone who played a roll in it and would highly recommend the experience to anyone struggling with something that they feel they need to overcome. I hope you enjoy my review of my first ever fight experience and all of the emotions and thoughts that came with it. 0:00 Intro 1:02 Motivation & Back Story 6:14 Approach  9:30 Fight Camp 11:28 Mentality 18:01 Team 19:32 Coaches 21:15 The Night Overall 22:50 The Walk Out 25:34 The Fight 28:06 Post Fight Come Down 30:14 Final Thoughts See you in the winners circle! 4. Gratitude, Growth and Growing Up with Nate from ICHPIG

Gratitude, Growth and Growing Up with Nate from ICHPIG

Sup gang - welcome to Episode 57 of Slaaap Haaapy!! I was fortunate enough to be invited into the headquarters of Melbourne born and bred streetwear label ICHPIG to chat with co-owner and operator Nate. ICHPIG was established 12 years ago and to this day is one of the most relevant champions of culture in Australia and especially in the Melbourne underground. On top of being great guys with a great outlook, they actually make really really amazing clothing and I was so impressed by the detail and authenticity in every single piece of theirs. This conversation was a real highlight for me as it represented my first in-person sit down with someone outside of the music industry, and has definitely opened the door to a world of possibilities where I can continue to chat to cool people and brands doing cool things. As well as this, I am a huge believer in the value that ICHPIG is adding to Melbourne's hip-hop and music scenes through collaboration and sponsorship and truly believe they are doing great work in these spaces. Some of the bits we talk about in the pod include:  - being grateful and smelling the roses - the origins of ICHPIG - wearing balaclavas to draw attention to the clothing - defining a real business - the turning point - learning how to simply enjoy something - ICHPIG in Melbourne sub-cultures - weaknesses and strengths of operational decisions - what does success look like? I hope you enjoy my chat with Nate from ICHPIG! ICHPIG Website: https://ichpig.com/ ICHPIG on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ichpig/?hl=en See you in the winners circle! 5. From The Come Up to The Come Back: Managing The Highs and Lows of The Music Industry with Ivan Ooze

From The Come Up to The Come Back: Managing The Highs and Lows of The Music Industry with Ivan Ooze

Sup gang - welcome to Episode 56 of Slaaap Haaapy!! My man Ivan Ooze dropped by Slap Happy to have a good ol fashioned chin wag. Ooze and I go way back after supporting him on 2 of his tours and playing some of the funnest shows of my life on those tours, so when he hit me up to have a chat I was absolutely down. Ooze has done just about everything you can do as a rising hip-hop talent in this country, from playing at Splendour to touring the country multiple times, as well as collaborating with Ghostface Killah and supporting all of the biggest national and international rap stars. His energy has always been electric on stage, but his off stage demeanor and passion for his craft is something that I have always wholeheartedly admired - the man takes time out for his fans, and they support him with great conviction as a result. The chat was thoroughly enjoyed by both parties and the vibes were amazing as we tackled the start of Ivan's career and the epic come up that came with it, all the way through to his recent break from music as a result of feeling the pressure of being in the spotlight and having your work and character critiqued.  Ben is a proper character and one of the really good guys in the scene and I wish him all the success! xo Some of the bits we talk about in the pod include:  - his old rap name and the come up - his idols and biggest rap inspirations - the Seth Sentry saga and our heroic dash through a car park - Rest For The Wicked and the enigma that is Tasker - finding Tik Tok success with viral rap remixes - career highlights and lowlights - what success looks lik I hope you enjoy my chat with Ivan Ooze!
