    Caring for Luella - Erin's story

    There is so much that goes unspoken when caring for a child with an illness or disability. So many “yeah good, thanks” responses when the truth is to exhausting to even mutter. Erin’s daughter Luella is a beautiful 2.5yr old little girl with the most mesmerising eyes. She suffers with uncontrollable epilepsy that consumes her life, and her families life. Erin bravely shares her and Lulus story over on Instagram and today she shared with me a little look into their situation and the heartbreaking decision around allowing doctors to go ahead with a huge surgery that involves removing half of Luella’s brain next month. Erin is the epitome of strength, courage, vulnerability and love in motherhood.     Today I'm joined by Kayelene Kerr, a former police officer with 24 years experience in law enforcement investigating sexual crimes. Kayelene is highly experienced, educated and is recognised as one of Western Australia’s most experienced providers of Child Protection workshops. Through her company, eSafe kids, Kayelene provides national and international workshops and webinars to children. She also educates parents, teachers and other professionals on how to talk with children, young people and vulnerable adults about protective behaviours and body safety. This conversation is based around the terrifying statistic that children on average are being exposed to pornography between 8-10 years old. It is an important one for parents of all age children but specifically those of primary aged children. It is also full of simple and practical tips to minimise risks of the internet.
