Chapter 3 and 4 of Emotional Money

Most of us are living inside beliefs we never consciously chose. We inherited them. We absorbed them. We repeated them so many times they started to feel like truth. And when it comes to money, those beliefs don’t just sit quietly in the background—they shape everything. How you earn, how you spend, what you believe is possible for you. But here’s the truth we don’t talk about enough: beliefs are not facts. They are conclusions. And many of the conclusions you carry were formed in moments where you didn’t yet have the power, context, or understanding to choose differently.  This is not about blaming your past or trying to rip out every belief you’ve ever had. It’s about awareness. Because once you see a belief clearly, it begins to lose its authority over you. You start to notice how it’s been quietly driving your decisions—why you hesitate, why you overgive, why you feel guilt around money, or why you chase more thinking it will fix everything. And instead of forcing yourself into some shiny new belief that doesn’t feel true, you begin to build what I call a bridge belief. Something honest. Something grounded. Something that allows you to take one step forward instead of pretending you’ve already arrived. And this is where everything shifts. Because your beliefs don’t live in isolation—they sit right next to your values. Your beliefs shape your emotions, your emotions drive your behaviors, and your behaviors create your results. So if you don’t like the results you’re seeing in your financial life, don’t just look at the numbers. Look upstream. What belief is sitting at the top of that chain? What story are you still carrying that no longer belongs to the life you’re trying to build? You are not betraying your past by choosing differently—you are honoring it. You are saying, “That got me here… but it doesn’t have to take me where I’m going.” Contact Corree or find out more about Corree and learn about all the ways she does not choose to stay in one lane go here: https://correeroofener.com/ To Purchase Emotional Money click here: Emotional Money Are you ready to walk with us for https:/https://fosteringthesummit.org  Join us as we change the statistics for children aging out of foster care. Emotional Money - Chapter 2

There’s something I want you to really sit with: you don’t have a money problem—you have a money story. And that story didn’t start when you opened your first bank account or got your first paycheck. It started much earlier, in the quiet moments you didn’t even realize were teaching you. The tone in your parents’ voices at the checkout line. The silence around bills. The stress, the pride, the tension, the avoidance. You were learning long before anyone ever “taught” you. And now, as an adult, you’re being asked to fix behaviors without ever being invited to understand where they came from. That’s why it feels heavy. That’s why it doesn’t stick. This isn’t about blame—it’s about context. Because when you begin to understand the environment you learned money in, something powerful happens: your patterns start to make sense, and shame begins to loosen its grip. Whether you grew up in scarcity, chaos, control, silence, pressure, or even abundance that never felt safe—every environment leaves an imprint. And here’s the truth most people don’t talk about: there is no “perfect” money story. You just had to grow up human to carry one. Add in cultural, generational, and systemic layers—what your parents were allowed to do, what they weren’t, what they believed because of what they lived—and suddenly you realize… this story is bigger than you. But that doesn’t mean it has to define you. Because here’s where the shift begins: what was true then does not have to be true now. But you cannot change a story you’re unwilling to look at. So instead of asking, “Why can’t I just do better with money?” I want you to ask a different question: What did I learn about money that I’m still living out today without my permission? And even deeper than that—what is it costing me to keep believing it? This is the work. Not forcing new habits, but understanding old ones. Because when you can trace a behavior back to its origin, it stops being a character flaw and starts becoming something you can gently, intentionally rewrite. And that’s where freedom begins. Emotional Money - Introduction & Chapter 1

People don’t avoid their money because they don’t care. They avoid it because it hurts. Somewhere along the way, money stopped being just numbers and started becoming identity. It became tied to your worth, your belonging, your safety, your enoughness. So when you struggle, it doesn’t feel like a math problem—it feels like a personal failure. But let me say this clearly: it is not a willpower problem, it is a story problem. And stories are not solved with spreadsheets alone. They are understood, unraveled, and rewritten with compassion. This work—this book—is a mirror. Some parts will feel validating. Some parts will feel uncomfortable. Some might stir grief you didn’t expect. That doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong. It means you’re finally paying attention. You don’t need to rush. You don’t need to perform. You just need to be honest. Because when you begin to understand why you do what you do with money, something shifts. The shame starts to loosen. The patterns start to make sense. And from that place—not force, not fear, but understanding—change becomes possible. So as you move forward, I’ll leave you with this question to sit with, not solve:  What if wealth isn’t what you have… but what you no longer need to prove? Link to workbook below. Dancing with Grief with Mary Fields

This conversation with Mary Fields stirred something deep in me because grief is not a side story in our lives — it is woven into almost every chapter. We have been taught that grief looks like death, like tragedy, like something obvious and dramatic. But grief can be the loss of a relationship you never had, the body you once lived in, the identity you thought you’d become, or the version of someone you hoped would show up. Mary said something that struck me hard: grief isn’t something we move on from — it’s something we learn to carry. And I believe that. We don’t grieve what we never loved. To grieve is proof that joy existed. It’s proof that hope once lived there. And instead of rushing to “get over it,” maybe the invitation is to ask, How do I honor it? What moved me most was the honesty around rage, boundaries, and forgiveness. We don’t talk about that enough. There is space for anger. There is space for grief over what never happened. There is space for saying, “I can give grace, but I also need boundaries.” Forgiveness is not a one-size-fits-all spiritual badge we earn. It is personal. It is layered. It is shaped by our stories and our safety. And sometimes peace doesn’t look like reconciliation, sometimes peace looks like clarity. Like saying, “I see what happened. I see the trauma behind the trauma. And I choose what I carry forward.” That is courage. Mary described grief as something we can “dance with,” and I love that imagery. Not suppress it. Not conquer it. Not erase it. Dance with it. Light the incense. Say their name. Build the shelf. Write the story. Talk about them even when it feels uncomfortable. Because silence does not protect us — it isolates us. And if courage truly is being afraid and doing it anyway, then maybe courage in grief looks like getting out of bed. Maybe it looks like speaking their name. Maybe it looks like asking, What do I have to gain on the other side of this pain? There is a version of you on the other side of that choice that you haven’t met yet, and I promise you, she is stronger than you think. If this conversation stirred something in you, share it. You never know who needs permission to grieve in their own way. And around here, we believe if it changes the life of one, it’s worth it. The Hardest Relationship You Will Ever Build

We talk a lot about relationships in life marriage, friendships, business partnerships, family. But the relationship we most often undermine is the one we have with ourselves. Recently, something unlocked in me in real time. It forced me to look deeper at a truth I’ve known for years but maybe hadn’t fully allowed myself to feel. If the relationship with self is fractured, every other relationship in your life will eventually reflect that fracture. As I’ve been writing and reflecting, a memory surfaced of being a ten-year-old girl who would ride her bike for hours just to escape the heaviness of home. I remember the freedom of those rides, but I also remember coming back and realizing no one had noticed I had been gone. That quiet feeling of invisibility followed me for much of my life. And in a moment of deep awareness recently, I realized something even bigger: part of the work of healing is recognizing when a version of yourself has quietly left. Sometimes a part of you changes so deeply that it is no longer the same woman, the same mother, the same partner, the same friend and no one gave their permission for her to leave. Your family didn’t know it was happening. You didn’t know it was happening. Yet suddenly you realize that version of you is gone, and there is a real grief that comes with that awareness. But that realization is also powerful. Because when we allow ourselves to mourn those versions of who we once were, we create space for the person we are becoming. The relationship with self is the hardest relationship we will ever grow. It asks us to hold our own hand, to ask hard questions, and to release stories we’ve carried for decades. Yet when we do, something remarkable happens: the chains begin to fall away. And from that place comes freedom, freedom in our relationships, freedom in our voice, freedom in our purpose. The question is not whether the change will come. The question is whether you are willing to honor it when it does.  Until next time, love you, mean it. Not for Power—For People: The Kind of Leadership We Need with Alani Bankhead

On this episode of The Courage Coalition, I sat back down with one of those humans who makes you feel it in your chest the minute she starts talking, Alani Bankhead. She’s spent over 20 years in human intelligence operations, hunting terrorists, tracking traffickers, and going after the darkest of the dark… not because she hates them, but because she loves people. And that right there is the conversation we keep avoiding. We live in a world that tells us anger is leadership and outrage is impact, but anger without regulation becomes a wrecking ball. Alani reminded us that anger is the emotion of injustice, yes, but love is the strategy. Love is the discipline. Love is the thing that makes you ask the only question that actually changes anything: What can I do… right here… with what I have? Even if it’s just for one. We also talked about the lie that keeps so many good humans silent: Who am I to do anything about it? Imposter syndrome doesn’t just show up in business—it shows up in purpose, calling, and community. Alani is living proof of that, stepping into a new level of courage by running for office, even while admitting she had to mourn the comfort of the life she’s leaving behind. Because following purpose costs something privacy, ease, predictability, being liked. And yet, what she keeps coming back to is this: your gift matters precisely because it comes easy to you. You dismiss it as “no big deal,” but what’s natural for you might be someone else’s lifeline. And the magic is rarely made by one hero it’s made by community. The people who get the most done are usually the humble ones who don’t think they belong in the room… and that’s exactly why they should be there. So here’s the gut-punch invitation from this conversation: stop waiting to feel ready. Stop demanding certainty before you move. Ask yourself one simple filter question, is this decision coming from love or fear? If it’s love, take the one unsteady step. The mentors, the resources, the people, and the “how” will meet you on the road. And if you needed permission today to trust your instinct, consider this it: you don’t have to be right 100% of the time to be brave. You just have to be willing to begin. And if this episode hit you, close the loop—message me and tell me what landed. We don’t just consume courage around here… we practice it. Love you, mean it. The Question We Don’t Ask Enough: What Does Success Actually Look Like for You?

One of the questions I’ve been sitting with lately is this: where did you actually learn how to be a business owner? For many of us, the honest answer is we didn’t. We inherited beliefs, borrowed strategies, followed formulas, and tried to fit ourselves into a very narrow box of what success is “supposed” to look like. In American culture especially, success is often measured by numbers alone revenue, clients, growth curves without ever asking how that business fits into our actual life. Our family. Our health. Our joy. Our capacity. What I’ve learned in building my business is that numbers matter, but they are not the whole story. They don’t tell us who we are, why we’re doing this, or whether the life we’re building actually feels aligned and full. About three years into my own business journey, I hit a wall. I was doing all the “right” things niching down, following the formulas, investing in education yet I still wasn’t earning in a way that supported my core values. And that forced a deeper reckoning: was I building a business that reflected me, or was I living someone else’s version of success? What shifted everything wasn’t a new strategy it was clarity. Clarity around my why. Clarity around the kind of life I wanted to support. And clarity around the truth that if I wasn’t willing to pivot, to loosen my grip on how things were “supposed” to look, the business would never work not because I wasn’t capable, but because it wasn’t honest. 12 months ago, I made a decision that changed everything: I stopped trying to be marketable and started being myself. Fully. Multifaceted. Relational. Values-driven. I let go of the belief that there was only one way to grow, and I focused instead on connection real conversations, real alignment, real service. And the result? Growth that actually felt sustainable. Clients who didn’t just hire me for my skills, but trusted me because they felt seen. So here’s my question for you as we step into a new year: who have you forgotten in your pursuit of success? And what might be possible if you let go of one grip, one borrowed belief, one rigid rule and chose to build in a way that reflects who you truly are? Because when we show up aligned, courage has a way of doing the rest. Why Are We Still Whispering About Perimenopause? with Dr. Mariza Snyder

Why is perimenopause still treated like a quiet inconvenience instead of the profound transition it actually is? In this episode of The Courage Coalition, I sat down with Dr. Marisa Snyder to talk about the thing so many women are experiencing but few feel permission to name. What struck me most wasn’t just the science (though that matters deeply), but the shared frustration so many of us carry: doing “all the right things” and still not feeling like ourselves. Exercising, eating well, taking supplements yet struggling with sleep, mood, joint pain, brain fog, or a sense of disconnection that feels both confusing and disempowering. This conversation cracked open what so many women have been silently carrying and reminded us that perimenopause isn’t a personal failure it’s a biological, neurological, and metabolic transition that deserves care, curiosity, and compassion. What Dr. Marisa made beautifully clear is that perimenopause is not a moment it’s a season. Often a long one. It can begin years earlier than we were ever told, sometimes as early as our mid-to-late 30s, quietly showing up as irritability, disrupted sleep, anxiety, inflammation, or feeling “off” without a clear explanation. This is not something to dismiss as aging or willpower. It’s a neuroendocrine shift our brains and bodies recalibrating as hormones change. And while that can feel unsettling, it’s also an invitation. An invitation to advocate for ourselves, to understand what’s happening beneath the surface, and to stop normalizing suffering as the price of womanhood. What I loved most about this conversation is that it didn’t offer a one-size-fits-all fix. Instead, it offered permission. Permission to explore lifestyle changes, nervous system support, metabolic health, movement that fits real life, and when appropriate tools like hormone replacement therapy without shame or fear. Midlife is not the beginning of the end; it’s a powerful turning point. A chance to rebuild resilience, reclaim energy, and choose how we want to feel in this next chapter. We don’t need to whisper anymore. We deserve to feel informed, supported, and deeply alive in our bodies right here, right now.
