Meaningful conversation with bold entrepreneurs, leaders and change makers.

5 significant moments in under 3 minutes - Elephant, Christmas, Camping, St Kilda, Bangkok and Himalayas

5 significant moments in under 3 minutes - Elephant, Christmas, Camping, St Kilda, Bangkok and Himalayas

Prompted by the Wheeler Centre's latest Signal Boost Competition I created this 3-minute audio response to the theme 'space' - exploring spaces that influenced the way I am today.

    1) Being a 12-pound baby born in regional NSW nicknames "Baby Elephant" by the nurses.
    2) Christmas and Camping
    3) St Kilda - Moving Out
    4) Bangkok, supporting refugees
    5) Himalayas, finding peace.

These are explored in more depth in my memoir which you can pre-order here.
Your pre-orders mean the world to me and keep me accountable on finishing this book project which I've been working on for a few years.
You can also follow my candid writing journey over on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/quarterlifecrisisco/

or subscribe to my newsletter where I sometimes share things I never publish online  (scroll to the bottom) https://daizymaan.com/

I'm not sure if I'll be successful in this competition, but the process of creating it has been wonderful - remember it doesn't matter if you don't get the validation you seek - create because you can, because our voices, our art & our stories matter.

A huge shout out to my new friend Snehil from Wolverhampton who gave me advice on the sound aspects of this.

Australia's Top Woman in Artificial Intelligence - Svetha Venkatesh

Australia's Top Woman in Artificial Intelligence - Svetha Venkatesh

One of the top 15 women in the world for Artificial Intelligence and the only woman from Australia on that list, Svetha Venkatesh is a powerhouse in STEM. She is an Alfred Deakin Professor with 346 publications based on her research. Her research has lead to two successful start-ups; icetana, an ASX listed company that provides AI-assisted video surveillance and TOBY Playpad, an app that provides therapy for children with autism. In 2017, Svetha was awarded the prestigious ARC Australian Laureate Fellowship for her contributions to the use of pattern recognition and experimental complexity and optimization. She is a genius in her own right and of course, her only child, Akshay Venkatesh, ended up a Fields medalist – which is akin to the Nobel Prize of Mathematics. Svetha is down-to-earth, non-pretentious and focused on making a difference.

In this episode, we discuss Svetha’s beginnings in India, the adversity she faced as a woman studying and working in STEM, her experience migrating to Australia, and her academic and research career.

The Art of Building Relationships Online #6

The Art of Building Relationships Online #6

If you’re yet to meaningfully connect with someone new online (not including Tinder or Hinge) this is for you. This video is for students and beginners who feel like they get nothing out of “networking events” . I go through:

Simple things we overlook when it comes to building relationships.
The very first time I sent an email to a stranger I didn’t know but whose work I admired.
Common mistakes you’re making when it comes to reaching out.
    What if they don’t reply?
I use lots of personal experiences that I haven’t shared publicly before

I touch on why building relationships online and in-person is a worthwhile endeavor, how to do it properly, and increasing your surface space for serendipity. I hope you find it useful.

Making it Happen with Shani Dhanda, founder of Asian Woman Festival UK and Diversability Card #4

Making it Happen with Shani Dhanda, founder of Asian Woman Festival UK and Diversability Card #4

Today's episode is a conversation with the Shani Dhanda who founded the Asian Woman Festival a first-of-its-kind festival smashing stereotypes and stigma to empower and celebrate Asian Women. Shani is an award-winning international event manager, global voyager, disability role model and campaigner. I met Shani in London and was blown away with her attitude, energy and ability to empower others. If something doesn't exist, Shani creates it and that's how the Asian Woman Festival was born which saw over 1000 people attend.

Shani was born with a rare genetic condition called Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), more commonly known as Brittle Bones, affecting one in every 15,000 people in the UK. This condition is characterised by bones that break easily, often from little or no apparent cause. Though fragile bones are the hallmark of OI, other medical problems also stem from this condition, the most obvious being a short stature and Shani is 3'10''. However despite this Shani has thrived, travelling to over 28 countries solo and founding the Diversability Card, the UK's official

Recently she has been featured on Linkedin's campaigns across London and listed among the top 100 most influential disabled people in the UK.

Running Away to The Himalayas at 19: Spirituality, Meditation and Purpose #3

Running Away to The Himalayas at 19: Spirituality, Meditation and Purpose #3

Ever hit rock bottom and feel like there's no way out? In this episode I share my story of finding myself in a place where I felt suffocated by the negativity of my own mind, about mental health and being so far gone that it feels like there's no hope. At 19 I ran off to the Himalayas and ended up spending 40 days in an ashram to learn how to meditate, I share how I came do this and the impact it has had on my life since. From being an atheist to becoming spiritual and living a more conscious life aligned with my values. This journey is what led me to start writing my book Quarter Life Crisis which I'm currently working on.  Feel free to send any questions to me over at daizymaan.com under contact or via Instagram / Facebook and I'll pick a couple of questions to answer during the next podcast.
