S3EP13 WHEN A LOVE OF HISTORY LEADS YOU TO PAUL MESCAL! IF YOU WANT TO BECOME A CONTENT CREATOR, THIS IS THE 'HOW TO! WITH AINSLEY HARVEY I.E. @HOT.HI

If you want to become a content creator in the new year and hone in on a niche interest of yours - or more simply, a passion - two words; DO IT! Why not? Even if it's a side gig for the first little while as you build your skills and feed your daily levels of enjoyment, that alone is a great way to start something for yourself. In fact it's precisely why I created TFW. I didn't want to lose skills or fall behind or miss out on network opportunities during my early years of motherhood (in the role of the primary carer) - so creating TFW allowed me to 'stay in the game.' I learn new skills, work to specific deadlines, meet great people & it's keeping me energised, motivated and driven. Yes it's unpaid - but the benefits and value are huge, and the series means so much to me. Less about me though ... this weeks guest, Ainslie Harvey is the creator of the fabulous TikTok account @Hot.History. As a full time worker (as well) in the digital media realm, Ainslie felt her cup wasn't being filled quite enough - and she pined for something else to inject some energy and creative flair into her days. With this in mind, using her sincere love of ancient history, she founded a content platform (@Hot.History) that is modernising the way we find, digest and enjoy history. I have learnt a tonne - whilst totally enjoying her content. A little different from my high school days ... a whole lot more meaningful. I reached out to Ainslie to ask if she'd be keen to record an episode of TFW that outlined to those who're curious about starting something of their own - the ways to kick start. She was so generous with her insights and tips - so this is a must listen ep for anyone with questions. Ainslie has worked tirelessly to ensure she treats Hot.History as a serious business (which it now is) - to ensure her standards are never compromised and that she never strays from what feels (and is) genuine. So where has all of this led her? I'll tell you where ... in a room interviewing Paul Mescal ahead of the Gladiator II ... aka the 2024 epic historical action film directed and produced by Ridley Scott. Impressed? SAME! Inspired? SAME! Keen to hear more and learn more from this intelligent & committed woman - YES PLEASE! So here we are. Everything you'd want to know about the outstanding Ainslie Harvey. What I loved most was my #1 take away ... which is so simple. Hard Work is Key. S3EP14 TEGAN NATOLI FROM MAMAMIA'S 'THE GLORIOUS MESS', BRILLO BEAUTY & BUMP DAY SPA IS HERE TO TALK TO 'THE MODERN MOTHER'

It's been a minute since I've honed in on the topic of motherhood, the juggle, the mental load, the overstimulating nature of the chaos, the kids, the demands, the repetitive cycle of '...by why mum?" But also of course the joy, the LOL's, the sweet memories and treasured learnings. So who better to invite into this chat than the brainy & bubbly Modern Mum herself, Tegan Natoli. Many of you will know Tegan as she's the host of MAMAMIA's, 'The Glorious Mess' poddy alongside Annaliese Todd, Tegan is the founder of Bump Day Spa and the co-founder of the sensationally designed and formulated 'Brillo Beauty' - self care essentials for modern motherhood - with the equally talented Leigh Campbell. Tegan is a woman I admire, respect and laugh along with on her own poddy! She so generously shares so much 'realness' with her audience as she works towards such a pure goal; to help other women feel seen and remind them, they're not alone. Far, far from! It was a pleasure getting to know Tegan & I promise you'll all take something away from this chat. 3. S3EP12 KATE BELL IS TAKING THE MODELING & WORLD OF STYLE & BEAUTY BY STORM AT 56. THIS IS A STRONG, AWARE, SUCCESSFUL & CONTENT WOMEN TO LEARN FROM.

S3EP12 KATE BELL IS TAKING THE MODELING & WORLD OF STYLE & BEAUTY BY STORM AT 56. THIS IS A STRONG, AWARE, SUCCESSFUL & CONTENT WOMEN TO LEARN FROM.

Kate Bell - what a glorious woman. At 56 years young Kate is gracing the Australian modeling, fashion & beauty scene with poise and a nonchalant yet gracious attitude. Modeling since the 80s, Kate's career is expansive, global and it's only growing. From France and Germany - to India and deep into so many pockets in between Kate has worked so hard to establish her name, her belief system and her comfort zone. Having shared such an in depth chat with her, her words and replies let me see the industry (and the world at large) through her gaze. Kate holds no judgement. She is open, hyper aware, kind and exceptionally intune with what is real and what is theatrical. She adores both. She celebrates both. And she's carved out a space between that is her own.  Throughout her time in the industry, Kate counts yoga as something very near and dear to her heart. As well as a form of movement and exercise - Kate credits yoga as having a navigational role in her life. It has taught her so much about herself - and how to exist in her own skin feeling powerful and strong. I was so thrilled Kate expressed interest in chatting with me! As somebody who also started their career in the modelling industry (as an agent) - I adored chit chatting about culture and the creative area has progressed over the decades gone by.  Yes, it is true that so much of the recent changes & evolutions in technology, style, wellness and lifestyle has been overwhelming and confusing at times ... but the choice and the variation it's afforded so many women, is something to honor.  What I loved the most about Kate? She's a big 'you do you' and 'I'll do me' kinda gal. This outlook is utter perfection as it allows each and every individual to be themselves, without critique or judgement. Love it. Kate - you're just divine. MORE ON KATE Instagram https://www.instagram.com/i_am_katebell/reels/

  4. S3EP11 JANET ANDERSON, THE TALENTED SIMONE FROM 'LAST KING OF THE CROSS' SPEAKS ON LIFE AS A TRANS WOMAN & DESPITE CHALLENGES, HER LOVE OF THE SISTERH

    05/11/2024

S3EP11 JANET ANDERSON, THE TALENTED SIMONE FROM 'LAST KING OF THE CROSS' SPEAKS ON LIFE AS A TRANS WOMAN & DESPITE CHALLENGES, HER LOVE OF THE SISTERH

The Last King of The Cross - a brilliant Australian Paramount series covering the rise & fall (and rise again ...) of Sydney's infamous Kings Cross, led me to meet the incredible actress, Janet Anderson (who plays Simone). After reading about Janet and her experience as an actor - I stumbled across an article she wrote for VOGUE Australia covering an experience she endured back in 2021. It stopped me in my tracks.  Janet, a trans woman in her early 20's, learned that transgender women who had not undergone gender reassignment surgery, would be denied access at McIver’s Baths in Coogee. Pardon me? This was a local hang out for so many women who often frequented the space and cherished it as a place refuge. And now they were going to ban Janet because of a box she didn't tick? It's sad to think this happened in 2021 - just 3 years ago?  Janet's piece for VOGUE went on to recount the peaceful protest she oversaw, the result of which overturned the newly enforced 'rule'. In such a gracious manner she successfully made her point and inspired so many others - myself included. It was this line I thought was exceptionally moving - 'Trans women are more often than not the victim of such predators. The truth is that having the self-assuredness and bravery to live authentically makes us the most deserving of the title of women, in my humble and womanly opinion.' TFW is an open conversation for women and Janet Anderson is one woman I feel privileged to have shared a chat with. I learned so much from our time together and feel honored she joined me! 5. S3 SPECIAL EP* WITH ANNABEL HAY, FOUNDER OF 'CLUTCH GLUE' A PRODUCT WHICH WILL CHANGE THE FACE OF FASHION. A FOUNDER YOU NEED TO HEAR FROM

S3 SPECIAL EP* WITH ANNABEL HAY, FOUNDER OF 'CLUTCH GLUE' A PRODUCT WHICH WILL CHANGE THE FACE OF FASHION. A FOUNDER YOU NEED TO HEAR FROM

Annabel Hay - the Founder, Owner and Inventor of CLUTCH Glue joins TFW to introduce her new game-changing product in the world of style & function. Introducing the new and improved answer to boob tape ... CLUTCH is the real deal handbag/makeup bag/travel bag add on. It is insanely effective (it dries in about 3seconds), strong, hypoallergenic, sweat resistant, water soluble, vegan AND it'll wash right off your clothes. No damage done. Does it hurt to remove the clothing (i.e. straps) that are glued down to your skin? NO! It's far less 'sting-y' than fashion tape and you can moisten the area to make it even quicker/more seamless. I'm raving because it really is that fabulous - as is the founder, the talented, wise & delightful Annabel Hay.  This 30min chat is for anyone in the startup world who wants some candid, no BS advice. Annabel is beyond generous with the wisdom she shares - including mistakes made along the way and how she overcame them. She speaks on growing the balls to pitch to big time investors (hello 400k raised on Shark Tank Australia), where to save money and how to reach your 'goal' customers, clients and target wholesalers. You will learn a tone.  What is so impressive to note about Annabel's venture is that way before Shark Tank, her debut (hero) product CLUTCH Glue was stocked nationally in Priceline stores and in CVS pharmacies across the whole of the United States of America. Big? Yes, bloody HUGE. It was a pleasure to speak to this weapon. 6. S3EP10 - STEPHANIE SLATER ON POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION, POSTPARTUM DEPLETION & SURVIVING BOTH

    22/10/2024

S3EP10 - STEPHANIE SLATER ON POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION, POSTPARTUM DEPLETION & SURVIVING BOTH

Trigger Warning - This episode includes themes of pregnancy loss & mental health struggles. Please proceed with caution. If you are ever in a spot of bother so deep and unable to reach someone close or a medical practitioner, Lifeline Australia is always available on 13 11 14. Postpartum Depression (PND) and Postpartum Anxiety (PNA) do not discriminate. You do not have to be prone to depressive episodes to experience either. You might not even experience the classic 'baby blues' which tends to coincide with the arrival of your milk, a few days after birth. For this reason - PND and PNA can stop new parents in their tracks because there isn't any 'forewarning'.  You just start sinking or losing yourself - unaware of what is going on. This episode is for anyone who needs a story to relate with. Please know, you're seen.  Stephanie Slater, mother of 2 (with another on the way) and founder of Askle (a personalized supplement service for women), experienced what she described as deep depressive symptoms after the birth of her second child. Even as those close to her hinted she seemed unlike herself or as if she was struggling (no mother likes to hear this), like so many mother's, Steph defensively justified her behavioural changes. She was coping with a lot, she was tired, she was doing the best she could - and thriving!!But was this true, or perhaps a story we (women) tell ourselves because we are so bloody brilliant at 'just getting on with it.'? It wasn't until Steph's GP 'ranked' a snapshot of her mood using The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Questionnaire - that Steph acknowledged, something was off. With a prescription for antidepressants being dangled in front of her, offering reprieve and physiological help - Steph chose to listen to her gut and instead advocate for herself and demand more information. More time. More help. Yes she wanted to feel better, but she also needed a lot more information before trusting a pill would cure her woes. With this experience, Steph & her husband Will have gone onto launch Askle; 'A place for women to feel heard, validated and be seen. Asklé serves as a digital haven, where women can effortlessly find and connect with trusted health experts to receive support tailored to their specific needs.' In this episode, Steph and I talk about postnatal depression, postnatal depletion, integrative health, navigating the health system and trusting your gut. To anyone experiencing postnatal depression, you're not alone. 1 in 5 women and 1 in 10 men are by your side. You never have to go through this alone.  Find Steph Askle - https://www.askle.co/  Askle Social Media - https://www.instagram.com/askle.co/

  7. S31EP8 NIKKI GEMMELL DEBUT'S NEW BOOK 'WING' & WE HAVE A DEEP CHAT ON LOVE, LOSS, WOMEN, MEN AND LIFE AS WE AGE

    15/10/2024

S31EP8 NIKKI GEMMELL DEBUT'S NEW BOOK 'WING' & WE HAVE A DEEP CHAT ON LOVE, LOSS, WOMEN, MEN AND LIFE AS WE AGE

Nikki Gemmell ... an international best-selling author of the hugely popular & thought provoking The Bride Stripped Bare, Dissolve and Shiver (+ so many more)... and now the cunning, page turner Wing. It was such a pleasure to sit down with Nikki and talk about love, loss, grief, healing and womanhood through the ages. Nikki is effervescent, passionate and beautifully candid on all things - her. What I love most about women is that despite our jobs, our hobbies & our ages - we all have so much in common. So many of us seem to intrinsically trust each other, understand each other and we thrive when we're in each other's company. It's wild. And I adore it. Like so many thousands of Australians, I read Nikki's weekly column for The Weekend Australian Magazine and I constantly look forward to her take on any given topic. She recently wrote openly about her experience with a huge fall in confidence - and something in the piece resonated so deeply. I know these types of emotional fractures are felt so widely by women at large, & so I was elated when Nikki agreed to chat further on the podcast. If you're looking for a great conversation that is both cathartic and energizing... and just makes you feel GOOD, this is it.  MORE ON NIKKI - - Nikki's website & books - https://www.nikkigemmell.com/ - Nikkis's articles for The Weekend Australian Magazine - https://www.theaustralian.com.au/author/nikki-gemmell#:~:text=Nikki%20Gemmell%E2%80%99s%20columns%20for%20the%20Weekend%20Australian%20Magazine

  8. S3EP9 - ENDOMETRIOSIS, PAIN, FRUSTRATION & AN EXPENSIVE MEDICAL SYSTEM. CHRISTIE SINCLAIR SO GRACIOUSLY SHARES HER STORY

    15/10/2024

S3EP9 - ENDOMETRIOSIS, PAIN, FRUSTRATION & AN EXPENSIVE MEDICAL SYSTEM. CHRISTIE SINCLAIR SO GRACIOUSLY SHARES HER STORY

Speaking with Christie Sinclair was such a breath of fresh air. We met on social media after I DM'd her to say how much I loved her articles on skin & beauty. At the time Christie was the senior writer for MECCA. As we started to speak on beauty for busy women and plan an episode that would focus on skincare and daily routines - our chats wandered off into more personality territory. We landed at a discussion on women's health - each explaining what we were currently experiencing. Christie very generously shared her situation and as she did, I knew there was a bigger chat to have. This chat would move from Skin & Beauty to Pain ... and why women were having to endure so much pain with very little societal understanding.  As a mother of two and a fulltime employee (who was commuting up to 3hours per day), I was blown away by how much Christie was balancing. Not only was she balancing - but she was doing so while her body was dealing with what was times, crippling endometriosis. The story didn't stop here. Over the past decade or so, Christie has been faced with endometriosis (which took around 6+ years to formally diagnose), 7 laparoscopies, 2 C-sections, 3 D&C's and a bowel resection. This collectively cost Christie and her partner the equivalent of a house deposit in medical bills... & she's now looking at a hysterectomy. It just seems so unfair right?  What is so amazing is Christie's positive attitude, her rationality when it comes to living with pain - and her generous nature. Sharing her story, so much of which is hugely personal, is a beautiful gift to the many other women who also suffer endometriosis, pain and everything else that comes with it.
