#072 Ian Groom - Motorcycle Coaching for Track Day Riders

IAN GROOM is a professional motorcycle coach with the California Superbike School. He is also founder of The Motorcycle Coach platform that provides remote motorcycle coaching services.  In this episode, Jorge and Ian discussed the importance and benefits of professional coaching for track day riders. They explored how coaching provides context and specific guidance that goes beyond general advice from faster riders or YouTube videos. Ian emphasised the value of understanding "why" certain techniques work rather than just learning "how," and highlighted how coaching helps riders improve accuracy and lap times. They also discussed common barriers to effective coaching, including riders' willingness to learn and receive feedback. The conversation covered remote coaching options through Ian's website TheMotorcycleCoach.com, which allows riders to receive video analysis and feedback without attending in-person schools. They concluded by addressing practical aspects of track days, including tips for newcomers and common mistakes riders make.
