    Episode 39: 1985 Intermission

    Send us Fan Mail This week we look back at our 1985 episode and see if it needs any mistakes rectified or omissions told.  In this episode: We made some mistakes. We hold ourselves accountable for those mistakes! Even if we have to make fun of each other for making those mistakes. We owed Tim Thomerson and his knife "Mike" an apology for forgetting his name when discussing the movie Volunteers. We're pretty sure we got everything else correct! Did the Ballad of Buster Scruggs owe its comedy drama anthology structure to 1985's Rustler's Rhapsody? Maybe. Carlos makes a case, but Cord is not really convinced. Rebecca De Mornay was busy as the queen of 1985! She made three movies in 1985, including Trip to Bountiful. She was a star on the rise and we discuss her trajectory. Horror comedies! Seemingly unmixable, but hit hard when done right. Which movies do horror comedies right and why? This intermissions' outro music, Do You Want To Party by 45 Grave, used  in the movie/horror comedy Return of the Living Dead.     Send us Fan Mail Welcome to 1977 Part 2! We had a lot to say, so here's the rest of the show. But first, a reminder of this years list of Oscar nominees: Annie HallThe Goodbye GirlJuliaStar WarsThe Turning PointIn this follow up, we talk about other categories to the Oscar list like The Best Grandma Moment, The Independent Darling, and Who Did It Best! Did Andy Warhol's Bad overcome its bleak narrative to walk away with the Independent Darling, or was America's lovable mutt in For the Love of Benji a better independent film? Cord really likes the cars from the Bond films, almost as much as Carlos loves John Carradine fighting ghost demons in The Sentinel. We were really affected by Orca in our youth, in which Dumbledore fights an angry killer whale hell bent on revenge; seven year old children should not have been taken by their parents to see this movie, but here we are. Only in 1977 would a movie like Yeti: Giant of the 20th Century, a movie featuring a giant Yeti with great hair and an Italian disco vibe, exist in this world. Can John Boorman be forgiven for making Exorcist II: The Heretic? He did make Zardoz. All this and more!     Episode 37: 1977 - Part 1

We have prevailed over the forces of moving and technical difficulties and we are so thrilled to return to one of the best decades in film, the 1970s!!  1977 to be precise, and we have lot to talk about!  So much so, we decided to split the show into two parts! Part one is available now, Part 2 will be available next week. But first, we are excited to discuss this years list of Oscar nominees: Annie HallThe Goodbye GirlJuliaStar WarsThe Turning PointAs if that wasn't enough, we added a few other categories to the Oscar list like The Best Grandma Moment, The Independent Darling, and Who Did It Best! While Annie Hall, a fine movie in its own right, was chosen by the mercurial Academy for the Best Picture award, it should come as no surprise to long time listeners who we thought should have won the Best Picture of 1977...hint, it was the only movie that had Wookies in it. And because Star Wars was the clear winner in our eyes, the big competition was for second place; who should it have been: Annie Hall or our alternative pick Saturday Night Fever? Maybe Carlos's favorite The Duellists, or the surprisingly shocking and violent Equus? Nature's revenge was a prevalent theme in 1977, as seen in Orca or Empire of the Ants, we talk a lot about rampaging animal movies, and did a bunch of Who Did It Best comparisons. We even thrown in some Comedy Gold! There's so much to talk about and we haven't even gotten to the year's Grandma Moment yet! All this and more in the the first part of 1977.     Episode 36: Oscars 2026 Recap

    Send us Fan Mail  The Oscars!? That was months ago! Just so happens, that's when we recorded this episode. It inadvertently sat on the shelf while Carlos moved to a new home that consumed his life! But now, movies once again consume his life! What are we here for!? Talking about movies!  After watching Conan O'Brien brilliantly host the Oscars, we tallied up the score to see who predicted more winners!     Episode 35: 1967 Intermission

    Send us Fan Mail This week we look back at our 1967 episode and see if it needs any mistakes rectified or omissions told.  In this episode: We made some mistakes. We hold ourselves accountable for those mistakes! Even if we have to make fun of each other for making those mistakes. We talk about Hank Stram and Superbowl 1...briefly. And how he introduced Gatorade to football and the rest of sports from a little known scientist at the University of Florida.   We also talk a bit more about the entr'acte and how it was common in movies in the 60s. Ok, a lot more, and whether or not intermissions should be used in modern films. This intermissions' outro music, The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel, used three times in The Graduate, including the iconic final bus scene.     Episode 34: 1939 Intermission

    Send us Fan Mail This week we look back at our 1939 episode and see if it needs any mistakes rectified or omissions told.  In this episode: The audio quality took a little hit while recording this show. We managed to fix the problem so future shows will sound much better. Always fighting the robots... We made some mistakes. We hold ourselves accountable for those mistakes! Even if we have to make fun of each other for making those mistakes. We talk about the legendary baseball player Lou Gehrig, his number was retired when he did in 1939. We couldn't remember which number it was, but we found it.   We also talk about Carlos's obsession with Crashing Thru, the Canadian adventure movie featuring bad guys, femme fatales, and one of the best opening theme song in cinematic history! The main story this episode was about the state of movie theaters and how to get people to go to movies again. Will streaming dominate the medium? We talk a bit about that.  This intermissions' outro music, the theme song from Crashing Thru  written by Betty Laidlaw and Robert Lively, performed by actor James Newill, who starred as Renfrew the Canadian Mountie.     Episode 33: 2026 Oscar Predictions

    Send us Fan Mail This week we are excited to talk about the Oscars, but this time, the Oscars that haven't happened yet! Yes, we're looking forward and giving our predictions for 2026 Oscars that are right around the corner! In this episode: We go through the entire list of categories, talk about the nominees, and each of us takes a shot at who the winner will be! We made a list of all our choices, and following the Oscar Awards show, we will do a recap to compare our choices with just how right OR WRONG the academy's choices were!  Will A Friend of Dorothy win the Live Action Short? Will KPop Demon Hunters close their stellar year with the Animated Feature award? In the head to head battle between Ryan "The Coog" Coogler and Paul "PTA" Thomas Anderson, who will come out on top of the Best Director Award, and will Sinners take the coveted Best Picture Award, or will it be One Battle After Another?     Episode 32: 2012 Intermission

    Send us Fan Mail This week we look back at our 2012 episode and see if it needs any mistakes rectified or omissions told.  In this episode: We made some mistakes. We hold ourselves accountable for those mistakes! Even if we have to make fun of each other for making those mistakes. We talk about the talented actor Karl Urban, who starred in such greats  such as the 2009 reboot of Star Trek, Dredd, The Boys, and the inestimable and timeless trilogy The Lord of the Rings; we apologize for forgetting his name during the main show.   We also become cool science teachers explaining the basics of the Higgs Boson particle! Well, we thought we were cool. The main story this episode was about sequels, remakes and reboots, focusing on the monumental failure of 2012's John Carter and whether it would or could be remade. How do some movies get remade when other more successful or deserving ones do not? We're not sure, but we agree that it would be awesome to see remakes of 1991's The Rocketeer or 1984's Last Starfighter. This intermission's outro music, the theme song from The Last Starfighter soundtrack by Craig Safan.
