    A True Show Stopper

    For the last Silverfox show, Gillian has a very special guest, the fabulous Deborah Ann Byrne (aka Debbie), Singer, Actress, Writer, Queen of Pop, Logie Winner and all round star of Stage, Screen and TV. Deborah talks with Gillian about being a child star and a founding member of Young Talent Time, her dancing ability; her debut as a musical star in Cats; her long struggle with anxiety and depression; finding the perfect counselor; being a full time grandmother; botox and touring with Vika Bull in their current show Tapestry, the Songs of Carole King. The songs she likes to dance to include tracks from Style Council, Janelle Monae, and Bruno Mars and she does a rendition of Sweet Baby James, live and unplugged in the studio .     Gillian’s guest this week is hospitality legend Stuart McKenzie of South of Johnston Cafe (aka SOJO), co-owner of Hartslane Accommodation and author of  All Day Cafe – cafe style food to make at home (Murdoch Books, 2017).  Stuart talks with Gillian about growing up in Melbourne; working in clubs like the Metro and partying the night away; becoming a business owner; his 20 year relationship with partner Simon Carver; monthly Peace Meals at SOJOs (an open invitation to share food with people from a refugee background) and how his life is now more balanced – but just as enjoyable.     Silver Daddy

    Gillian’s guest this week Tim Lennox (aka Robert Lennox Suggett), broadcaster, writer, photographer and teacher needs no introduction to Joy listeners. A life member of Joy, Tim has volunteered at the station for 23 years starting just a year after it began. He has been the News Director at Joy for over 20 years and still trains Joy newsreaders.  These days he is establishing a new career as an Art & Editorial Photographer and recently had a successful exhibition at the Warrnambool Art Gallery – Nasho 57: 98 Days at Pucka – featuring photographs he took in 1957 as a 19 year old doing National Service in the Australian Army.  He is currently negotiating to do a regional tour of  Nasho 57 and taking street photographs in preparation for his next exhibition. He talks with Gillian about this and some of his (many) other interests including writing Terse Verse for Growned Ups and 50 Word Mini-Sagas (which he hopes to publish); his research into all matters esoteric, being introduced to the Beatles by Rolf Harris and much, much more.  Along the way we hear from Boney M, The Beatles, Norman Greenbaum and the Eurythmics.     Magnificent Maria

    David Moyle sits in for Gillian this week and interviews Maria Mercedes, Actor, Singer, Animal Welfare Activist and  star of the original Australian productions of Nine; Sunset Boulevard and Love Never Dies. She and David discuss her start in show business by auditioning for Young Talent Time, learning English at the age of 7; how she combats stage fright; how Don Lane’s support for her career; studying Reiki and her passionate support for campaigns against cruelty to animals.  The music she shares includes her rendition of a Pet Shop Boys Song: So Sorry I Said as well as tracks by George Michael; Maria Callas and Ennio Morricone.     As Comfortable as a Bum on a Porcupine

    This week Gillian is joined in the studio by cabaret entertainer extraordinaire LuLu LaMarr aka the Toast Of Tasmania; the Empress of Entertainment and Baroness of Bling.  LuLu talks with Gillian about her world travels spreading joy, sequins and sparkle to brighten up people’s lives on cruise ships, at the Edinburgh Festival or in Reykjavik – where the crowds that come to see her can be counted on one hand. She sings (and signs) two numbers from her cabaret show You Ring Me Up (written by Darryl Peebles) and a cover version of Bonnie Rait’s Bright Eyes,  accompanied by Gillian on a twirling chair. The music LuLu can’t resist dancing to including Aretha Franklin’s Think and, as a rousing finale, Dolly Parton’s 9-5 where she demonstrates her prize winning karaoke skills.
