When Shame Shows Up with Kyira Wackett

When Shame Shows Up with Kyira Wackett

The topic of shame has been coming up for me a lot lately. It’s often such a deeply ingrained, insidious and in my opinion, largely unhelpful emotion because of the way it tends to run on a loop and feed on itself…unless of course we have the ability to recognise it and learn to build, what my guest this week, calls shame resilience.

Kyira Wackett is a licensed mental health therapist who specialises in shame and anxiety, eating disorders and trauma. Kyira is also the survivor of complex childhood trauma, in recovery from PTSD and a severe eating disorder and a mama to a 3 year old girl.

In this deeply personal and insightful chat, Kyira shares her thoughts and expertise on shame including:

The concept of shame, including how to build what she describes as shame resilience
Having deep conversations in both formal and informal settings, asking for help and building connection with other humans
Accessing therapy and support, including alternative methods other than therapy (especially within a heavily burdened health system) and some of the pro’s and con’s of accessing help, particularly in the online space
How, when seeking help and it doesn’t working out as we hoped can lead us to think it’s us that’s broken, when that’s certainly not the case
Super helpful and practical tips on how to choose the right support for you
The impact of childhood trauma, insecure attachment and how our sense of self is developed from our core beliefs and subsequent shame identity.
Parenthood and the importance of making shame resilient choices that work for you and don’t reflect the views (and/or shame and judgement) of others.

Kyira Wackett is a licensed mental health therapist specialising in shame and anxiety. She is the owner of Adversity Rising, a company who equips people with the confidence and skills to write their own stories. Her work ranges from one on one coaching to corporate wellness packages with a focus on what she calls the anti-band-aid movement or resisting the quick fix in favor of doing the work necessary to make meaningful and sustainable change. The highlight of her work is her signature program, That Life AR, where she walks people through her 5-step therapeutic process she believes can combat any pain point that comes our way because we all deserve to live a life in which we can thrive.

The Wonderful World of Crystals with Sara Bryki

The Wonderful World of Crystals with Sara Bryki

Growing up I knew a lot about crystals. I loved saving up my money and picking out a new crystal. I had a pink laminated card, kind of like a crystal "cheat sheet" and I learnt all about which crystal was for what. But over time, I lost connection to that part of me, only coming back to it in the past few years, re-discovering the wonderfully sparkly and high vibe world of crystals. Having a crystal expert has been high on my list since starting the podcast and I’m really excited to share this chat with Sara Bryki with you.

Sara is a Certified Crystal Healer, a dog mom to four fur-babies and a lover of all things crystals. Whether you’re new to the world of crystals or a long time lover of these magical gems, I’m sure you will love this high vibe chat.

Sara shares how she came to work with crystals, and some amazing tips on how to work with crystals including:

Working through major transitions in life including crystals to support the grieving process and why they help. Not just grieving the loss of a loved one, but also in the loss of relationships, futures, ideas, limiting beliefs, changes in circumstances.
Her journey from a 20-year healthcare administration career to doing her souls work
Energetics, frequency and the magic of crystals
How crystals help us to connect more with ourselves, our world around us, our loved ones.
How to incorporate crystals into your everyday practice, including specific crystals to support you at different times.

Sara Bryki is super passionate about helping others see and feel how crystals can help them 'remember' and connect with their true selves! Sara is the CEO of Sara Bryki Co. and Bryki Gallery where they specialize in high-end, curated crystals, crystal education and bringing people together in heart-centred communities.

Healing Our Heart and Body After Birth with Prudence Todd

Healing Our Heart and Body After Birth with Prudence Todd

I’m so honoured to share this beautiful chat between two mama’s all about healing our heart and body after birth. As a previous Midwife, Registered Nurse, Bodytalk practitioner and now Holistic Pelvic Care Practitioner and Restorative Pilates Instructor, Prudence Todd (a mama of 4!) helps women heal their heart and body after birth trauma with her online and in person healing sessions.

Although I wouldn’t have considered giving birth to my daughter to be particularly traumatic in itself, I now acknowledge that there are elements of trauma around my pregnancy and birth that deserve to be honoured, acknowledge and grieved. And you know that I’m so here for sharing these stories and talking about the things we don’t talk about enough!

In this episode, Prudence and I chat about:

Our individual and very different birth stories, with both resulting in trauma, grief and requiring significant healing
What birth trauma is and why it may be different (or more broad) than what you think
How Prudence works with her clients to support them post birth and processing trauma
The importance of prioritising ourselves as mama’s including treating ourselves with love and compassion
How to tune in and listen to our body and what she needs (including a practical example of how to do this in any moment)
Navigating relationships through parenting and dealing with our own layers of trauma

Prudence Todd is the Founder of Your Womanhood and deeply passionate about women’s experience of womanhood, birth and beyond. She specialises in guiding women to reconnect with their bodies, access their intuitive wisdom and medicine within and in turn heal pelvic floor trauma and dysfunction. Prudence believes our womanhood is the portal to so much that rests within in us and that birth and pelvic floor dysfunction calls us home to address these issues. Prudence loves to gather women together across cultures and generations to share wisdoms and give language to what women experience in their body’s as a birthing woman. Prudence loves surfing with her family, spending time with their new puppy and being in nature.

Prudence has also kindly offered a 10% discount to listeners of This Messy, Beautiful life. Please mention the podcast at the time of booking to take advantage of this beautiful offer.

A Second Chance at Life with Carrie Serati Gobble

A Second Chance at Life with Carrie Serati Gobble

This week’s episode is a very personal and inspiring chat with Carrie Serati Gobble who shares her story of growing up with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and requiring a bi-lateral lung transplant by the age of 27.

Carrie’s optimistic outlook on life in the face of significant health challenges and a shortened life expectancy, is nothing short of remarkable and I’m sure, like me, you will be inspired to go out and make the most of your day after listening to this beautiful, authentic and vulnerable chat.

Carrie shares her very personal story, including:

Growing up with CF, including how her diagnosis of CF came with a litany of treatments to help keep her alive.
Despite CF coming with a shortened life expectancy, Carrie talks about how she lived her life as parallel to other kids as possible.
The lead up to her double lung transplant including the fears and reality of facing such a significant procedure at a young age, while knowing it was the thing that would save her life
Life post her double lung transplant and what she sees as her second chance at life, including meeting her now husband Gary who was her mentor (these two have such a sweet love story that will warm your heart!)
The numerous complications with her health since the lung transplant, including new diagnoses, but sees her experiences as fuel to help others navigate their own health concerns.
Her passion for mentoring, and the volunteer work she does with local chapters of organizations supporting organ transplant, cystic fibrosis and the transplant program where she received her life saving lung transplant.
The importance of mental health awareness and professional support in the medical system
Her heartfelt request for people to consider the gift of organ donation.

Carrie Serati Gobble is a true warrior and survivor. Carrie uses her health experiences as a platform for personal advocacy when it comes to managing your own health care and is aiming to push for mental health professionals to be a part of the lung transplant program staff. Seeing a real need to assist patients enduring post traumatic stress due to complications with medical procedures as well as to help patients navigate a life they didn't foresee after their transplant. Carries does it all with a sense of humor and humility that has been learned over time. As well as with the support of her family, friends, health care providers, and most importantly her husband Gary.

Take Back Your Personal Power with Chelsea Webster

Take Back Your Personal Power with Chelsea Webster

Today I’m speaking with Chelsea Webster all about personal power and how we can take it back to find purpose in life. This is such an important topic and something I believe we don’t talk about enough.

Giving away our personal power tends to happen over time and can sneak up on us. It’s when we make choices to abandon our own wants, needs and values and put the needs and opinions of others ahead of our own, leading to resentment, frustration and burnout.

In this chat, Chelsea and I cover:

    · Some of the ways we give away our personal power, where it stems from and how it shows up

    · Some of the signs you may have given away your personal power

    · Steps to take to start taking back your personal power

    · The power of epigenetics and clearing limiting beliefs

    · The importance and value of understanding our individual humanness and unique needs

Chelsea is a Mum of two teenagers and a Registered Nurse who has worked in the healthcare industry for 20 years. Over her time in the Health care industry, she’s experienced challenging workplace cultures and personalities which left her frustrated, burnt out and overwhelmed. This led her to gain qualifications in the field of emotional healthcare and to start Create Your Glow. She now works with and empowers frustrated, burnt out and overwhelmed women to uncover and eliminate their limiting beliefs and emotions which allows them to live the life they deserve and find their inner glow!

Life Lessons, Big Decisions and Prioritising Me!

Life Lessons, Big Decisions and Prioritising Me!

It's finally here...the long awaited life update, alongside some big life lessons and reflections that have already dropped in for 2023!

As you may know, we've been travelling as a family since June 2022 and as the new year was upon us (and the longest time we thought we'd be away was upon us), we had a big decision to make! Where to next? Back to Australia? On to somewhere new? Or commit to settling in the place we've loved most in our travels? I'm sharing the big and exciting decision we made and all of the fun things that come with it!

Alongside that big decision, this year has already been a time for deep reflection and big realisations. For taking a further step back from the online world, a pause in podcasting and more time to focus on real life...family, friends and most importantly prioritising me! The online world is proving more and more challenging for many people, and I share my thoughts on what's (often unfairly) expected of us in this world and why I'm taking an even bigger step back.

I also share how I've realised that the amount of time, energy and attention I've been giving to others is partly related to my trauma response and is in at least a small part (maybe more!) allowing me to distract from truly focusing on myself, my self care and my healing. So I'm saying enough is enough and declaring that 2023 is going to be all about me!

Jenny from Down Under ,

Such a calm voice discussing relatable topics!

I’ve listened to Erin’s podcast episodes for awhile now, and recently enjoyed the episode about her Birthday and reflections from the past year.
What I love about this podcast is Erin’s calm and soothing voice as she reflects on topics we can all relate to. She talks with honesty about the highs and not-so-highs of life, business and relationships which everyone experiences. It’s like listening to your best friend - the gorgeous one who listens without judgement and who shares from a place of knowing that everything always works out.
The past year has seen so much change for her and her family and it’s great to come along on the journey as they arrive back in peaceful, serene and the idyllic-sounding paradise of Bali!
Definitely love listening, and Happy Birthday, Erin!
