    Gang-gang conservation - Stacey Taylor

    It is wonderful to have Stacey with us today. After spending the day walking and talking in the forest, looking at hollows and collecting feathers, we are grateful to Stacey for taking the time to chat with us about Gang-gang conservation and her important research into one of Australia's iconic and most loved birds. Stacey is a PhD candidate working to address critical knowledge gaps in the ecology of Gang-gang Cockatoos. She is also a Senior Conservation Planner with the ACT Government, focusing on developing high-level strategic documents and applying ecological principles to conservation efforts. Stacey is part of the Difficult Bird Research Group, her research is helping to locate and describe critical breeding habitat, investigate predation and competition pressures on reproductive success, and study the population genetics of Gang-gangs across their range.     Gippsland Giant Earthworm - Alison Oates and Dave Sutton

    We asked Alison Oates and Dave Sutton from the Gippsland Threatened Species Action Group to join us in the Treehouse to talk about their Giant Gippsland Earthworm project but Alison suggested we visit them at Dave's property in Arawata and to maybe hear them, which turned out to be a wonderful idea! So this week we head out into the field to uncover the mystery of these underground giants. Alison is a landscape ecologist who has worked extensively in Gippsland on a wide range of flora projects for the Government, NGOs and volunteer conservation groups. She is a foundation member of the Gippsland Threatened Species Action Group and is passionate about improving habitat for threatened species and creating landscape-scale biolinks across Gippsland.  Dave, a long-time conservationist with a rich history of projects through the South Gippsland Conservation Society and the West Gippsland CMA, welcomed us to his beautiful property in Arawata, just north of Leongatha. Over the past 25 years, Dave has transformed this landscape through careful re-vegetation, creating the perfect setting to learn more about these extraordinary creatures.
