Paul Verhoeven’s TURKISH DELIGHT ignites the Netherlands

To get a deeper idea of what makes his favorite country tick, Rico dives into Paul Verhoeven’s wild sophomore feature TURKISH DELIGHT — the biggest home-grown box office hit in the history of the Netherlands. Featuring interviews with Verhoeven himself, cinematographer Jan de Bont, and star Monique Van De Ven. La quietud | José Luis Torres Leiva + María Aparicio

En este episodio, se habla de la relación del cine con la memoria. José Luis Torres Leiva es un director chileno con más de dos décadas de trayectoria y una de las voces más prolíficas y singulares de su país. Entre cortometrajes, largometrajes, documentales, ficciones y trabajos híbridos, es autor de casi una veintena de obras que abordan, de forma emotiva, asuntos como el duelo, la soledad y la vida rural. Su filmografía, de carácter melancólico y casi siempre protagonizada por personajes femeninos, ha hecho parte de las principales competencias de festivales como San Sebastián, Rotterdam y Venecia. Recientemente, estrenó en Jeonju Cuando las nubes esconden la sombra, protagonizada por María Alché. Por otro lado, María Aparicio es una directora argentina, que en menos de diez años ha ocupado un lugar significativo en el cine de su país. Sus películas, ubicadas en contextos precisos como Córdoba o La Patagonia, son el vehículo para reflexionar sobre la palabra, el cine mismo y la vida diaria. Ha dirigido Las calles, Sobre las nubes y Las cosas indefinidas, exhibidas y premiadas en festivales como BAFICI, Mar del Plata, Marsella, FICUNAM y Gijón. Idea contra materia - Lois Patiño + Natalia López Gallardo

En este episodio, se habla de la forma cinematográfica como la expresión de una visión singular del mundo. Lois Patiño es un artista visual y cineasta español. En su filmografía ha explorado el paisaje y la tradición oral de Galicia, así como la relación del ser humano con la naturaleza y la muerte. Sus largometrajes y cortometrajes, de carácter experimental y contemplativo, han sido exhibidos en escenarios como la Quincena de Cineastas, el festival de Nueva York y FICUNAM. Su ópera prima, Costa da morte, obtuvo el premio a la Mejor Dirección en la competencia Cineastas del Presente de Locarno y, más recientemente, Samsara, su tercer largometraje, obtuvo el Premio Especial del Jurado de la sección Encounters de la Berlinale. Por otro lado, Natalia López Gallardo es una montajista, actriz y directora boliviana-mexicana. Ha editado películas como Heli, de Amat Escalante; Jauja, de Lisandro Alonso, y Luz silenciosa, de Carlos Reygadas, por la cual fue nominada al premio Ariel. Debutó en la dirección en 2006 con su cortometraje En el cielo como en la tierra, presentado en Rotterdam, y 17 años después su primer largometraje, Manto de gemas, hizo parte de la Competencia Oficial de la Berlinale, donde obtuvo el Premio del Jurado. Mediante el uso predominante del fuera de campo y una aproximación enigmática al entorno, López Gallardo retrata el complejo entramado social instaurado por la violencia en México. Lois y Natalia se reúnen aquí para reflexionar sobre sus procesos creativos y sobre la necesidad de renovar la relación entre la forma y la narrativa en el cine. Hosted on Acast. Special Episode. Being Like Water

This conversation touches on the creative process of two of film’s greatest names while working together on the film Memoria, an intimate collaboration founded on their long friendship. Apichatpong Weerasethakul is a world-renowned Thai artist and film director. The topics of dreams and death are essential to his filmography. His style raises big questions about time and our relationship with the spiritual world. Winner of the Cannes Palme d'Or in 2012 for Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives, Weerasethakul returned to the main competition years later with Memoria, his first film shot outside of Thailand, which received the Jury Prize (ex-aequo). Tilda Swinton is a Scottish artist, actress, and producer. She began her career performing and collaborating with experimental filmmaker Derek Jarman. She has worked with directors such as Jim Jarmusch, Wes Anderson, Luca Guadagnino, the Coen brothers, and Joanna Hogg. Her performances have been characterized by the subtlety of her gestures and her magnetic presence. In 2007 she won the Academy Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for the movie Michael Clayton. She has combined her acting in major Hollywood productions with a wide range of characters created by contemporary filmmakers such as Bong Joon-ho, Pedro Almodóvar, Lynne Ramsay, and more recently Apichatpong Weerasethakul. Swinton and Weerasethakul reunited in Colombia for Memoria’s release and talked about the importance of understanding that you’re not in control and how cinema is an attempt to put what’s inside one’s head on screen, something they achieved through sound.
