Yurii Tokar: Russia deployed Kenyans to death zone

“Russians collected all Kenyans and did everything for them to go to the front line, to go to the death zone.” Waihiga Mwaura speaks to Yurii Tokar the Ukraine ambassador to Kenya. The Ukrainian claims Russia deliberately deployed many conscripted Kenyans to the front line of the Russia-Ukraine war shortly before the Kenyan foreign minister arrived in Moscow with the intention of stopping recruitment of his countrymen. The Russian embassy in Kenya did not immediately respond to the BBC's request for comment. It has previously denied any Government involvement in the illegal recruitment of Kenyan citizens. A representative of Kenya's Ministry of Foreign Affairs told the BBC that "the government is not aware of such allegations and treats them as possible rumours and propaganda.” Thank you to the Focus on Africa team for its help in making this programme. Zo had de hereniging van Duitsland juridische gevolgen voor de Berlijnse holebi's, veranderde het uitzicht van de stad drastisch, en hadden de Oost- en West-Duitsers grote moeite om elkaar te vinden na een scheiding van 28 jaar.

Weekoverzicht #20 2026 - Willem Engel en Jeroen Pols

CO2-taks maakt gas en benzine vanaf 2028 duurder: 'Hulp nodig voor armsten' In week 20 behandelen Jeroen en Willem hoe oude narratieven hun overtuigingskracht verliezen. Terwijl het bestuur en de media hand in hand het tempo van crisismanagement opvoeren. Het hantavirus kreeg deze week direct volle aandacht: nieuwe dreiging, vertrouwde reflex. De angstinfrastructuur staat inmiddels permanent aan en is verwerkt in wet- en regelgeving. Tegelijkertijd brokkelt het vertrouwen in de zwaarste IPCC-scenario's verder af. Het klimaatverhaal blijft dominant, maar de overtuigingskracht raakt zichtbaar beschadigd. De AZC-protesten houden aan en de politiek kiest voor nog harder optreden, terwijl de oorzaak onbehandeld blijft. De rechtbank moest de persvrijheid redden, terwijl het cassatievonnis in de zaak-Engel opnieuw werd uitgesteld. Een klassiek voorbeeld dat gevoelige dossiers het liefst zo lang mogelijk in de la blijven liggen. Internationaal bleef het rommelen tussen de VS en Iran, waardoor de geopolitieke motor blijft draaien op een gecontroleerde dreiging. De energieberoving dendert door, terwijl structurele verarming steeds vaker wordt verpakt als duurzaamheid. Opnieuw veel plotselinge overlijdens, met verklaringen die inmiddels zo breed inzetbaar zijn dat zelfs climate change als mogelijke oorzaak opduikt.
