    Chapter 8: "Into The Greenstream" | The Happy Eater | Tales From The Wildsea

    Kezza, Bebo, and Zin link up with the crew leaders of the Screw Loose and the Little Rascal to plot an escape from Happy's suicidal embrace. But first, they have to cross the Greenstream, the mighty southern current separating the safety of the Mesoreia from the lawless mangrove jungles of Ragged Wood. Mile-tall irontide trees sway and crash in unison, threatening to splinter their ships before they even reach the far shore. Survive that, and the real challenge starts: finding the fabled juju bean, a guaranteed cure for parasites, including the happy kind. But the deeper they push into uncharted Ragged Wood, the closer they're drawn to something they can't outrun: Happy's lady love. Disclaimer: This episode contains profanity and violence.     The fleet sails south, and the crew of the Godsinger is running out of time to figure out where they stand. Kezza, Bebo, and Zin press Happy on his motives and get an answer they didn't expect. They broker a tentative alliance, hatch mutiny plans, and somehow end up singing a monster to sleep. Ahead lies Ragged Wood, uncharted and unforgiving.     The Godsinger is wrecked. The Screw Loose hit hard and didn't hold back, and now a second ship, the Little Rascal, is bearing down on what's left. Kezza, Bebo, and Zin scramble for a new play. Their survival earns them an audience with the infamous Captain Aurek, commander of the Happy Eater, the galleon they were commissioned to find.     The Snarl lives up to its name: a maze of razor reef and sunken ships. The crew of the Godsinger has set their trap, the decoy is in place, and the Mesoreia pirates are sailing right to it. All Bebo, Kezza, and Zin have to do is hold their nerve. Easier said than done when Kezza won't stop reminding the crew he's not sticking around for long. With the trap set and the pirates closing in, it's the worst possible moment for the Godsinger crew to question whether they're even a real crew at all.     Kezza leads Bebo down into the thrash on what should have been a routine harvest of Crezzerin. Oily, black, and volatile, the mysterious goo that shapes the Wildsea doesn't forgive mistakes, and this wavewalk leaves both sailors changed. Meanwhile, aboard the God Singer, Zin takes the wheel as the crew pushes onward through the Mesoreia and toward the Snarl. The pirates they're hunting won't wait forever, and neither will their rivals, The Mass Romantics, closing in from behind. Every league counts.     Redcrown lies behind them. The Happy Eater, somewhere ahead. And the crew of the Godsinger is in a race to beat their rivals. The Mesoreia (Mezo-ryah) has a reputation for being a smooth stretch of verdancy, but the crew learns that reputation is not entirely true. Zin pulls a half-dead stranger from the waves, one who might know more about their quarry. Bebo spots something shiny, but there's no time to celebrate: something burns on the horizon, and the ship is moving straight for it! Caught between pursuit and disaster, it's Kezza who sees the angle nobody else could. Fortune favors fools. Good thing the Godsinger has three to spare.     In Redcrown, opportunity and danger go hand in hand. The crew of The Godsinger meet Lemo Saeve of The Timberflow Mercantile, who offers them a job with high stakes: pirates are strangling trade across the Mesoreia, and he needs a daring crew to put an end to it. Before they can take on the contract, the crew seeks atonement from the Kingsman of Redcrown. As creepy as the Kingsman are, if Bebo, Kezza and Zin want to survive what’s coming, they’ll need every edge they can muster. Their plan to catch the pirates? An alluring brain pearl.
