6-Step Science-Backed Morning Reset (Boost Focus, Lower Stress & Improve Your Mood All Day!)

So many of us wake up and immediately feel behind. We reach for our phones, scroll through other people’s lives, and start reacting before we’ve even chosen how we want to feel. Today, Jay shares a powerful truth: the first 60 to 90 minutes after you wake up are the most programmable moments of your day. Your brain is in a unique, highly impressionable state and instead of using that window intentionally, most of us give it away. Jay breaks down six simple, science-backed habits that can transform your mornings without extreme routines or unrealistic expectations. He explains why hitting snooze actually makes you more tired, how morning sunlight boosts your energy and improves your sleep later that night, and how just 60 to 90 seconds of cold water can build stress resilience. He also shares the benefits of seven minutes of movement, a short handwritten journaling practice to clear mental clutter, and why delaying your phone for the first hour protects your focus and emotional baseline. In this episode, you'll learn: How to Stop Hitting Snooze for Good How to Reset Your Nervous System in 90 Seconds How to Activate Your Brain in 7 Minutes How to Increase Focus Before 8AM How to Protect Your First Hour from Distractions How to Reprogram Your Mind Before the Day Begins Start with one habit. Let it be simple. Let it be sustainable. Because when you protect your mornings, you strengthen your mindset. And when you strengthen your mindset, you change the direction of your days and eventually, your life. Spiritual Hygiene - Stop Leaking Your Energy

What if you’re not burnt out — just energetically cluttered? Why does anxiety build even when nothing “big” has happened? How much of your exhaustion comes from micro-betrayals of your own boundaries? What would change if you cleaned your energy the way you clean your body?   In this episode of A Really Good Cry, Radhi introduces the concept of Spiritual Hygiene — the daily practices that prevent emotional, mental, and energetic buildup. She explains how we don’t usually fall apart from one major event, but from tiny, unreleased accumulations: unspoken irritation, doomscrolling, overgiving, comparison, and saying yes when we mean no.   Radhi breaks down five forms of spiritual hygiene — integrity, attention, emotional, relational, environmental, and talk hygiene — and explores how anxiety is often the gap between who we say we are and how we’re actually living. She shares personal reflections on leaked energy, digital clutter, overstimulation, and the subtle ways we disconnect from ourselves in modern life.   This episode is a reset — an invitation to clear the dust off your spirit and return to yourself.   In this episode, you’ll learn: Why micro-accumulations lead to burnout and resentment. How doomscrolling dysregulates your nervous system. What “integrity hygiene” means and how to practice it. Why unprocessed emotions turn into personality traits. How your environment quietly impacts your anxiety. The power of changing the way you speak to yourself.   Spiritual hygiene isn’t about perfection — it’s about daily clearing so you can move through the world lighter, calmer, and more aligned.   Follow Radhi: https://www.instagram.com/radhidevlukia/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxWe9A4kMf9V_AHOXkGhCzQ https://www.facebook.com/radhidevlukia1/ https://www.tiktok.com/@radhidevlukia See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Lost Girls of ADHD: Inattentive in Girls and Women

Why is inattentive ADHD so often missed, especially in girls? In this episode, Emily Kircher-Morris is joined by Cynthia Hammer, author of Living with Inattentive ADHD and founder of the Inattentive ADHD Coalition. Cynthia shares her personal journey of being diagnosed at age 49 and her late-life mission to ensure the next generation of girls doesn't have to wait decades for answers. The two discuss the subtle clues of inattentiveness, the overlap between ADHD and autism, and how perfectionism often serves as a high-stakes masking strategy that leads to adult burnout. They also talk about the Big Sisters for ADHD Girls initiative, and the importance of early screening. It's a call to action for parents, educators, and clinicians to look past the surface and support the authentic neurodivergent self. TAKEAWAYS Inattentive ADHD isn't hard to see; rather, society hasn't been trained on what to look for. It's been suggested that some girls begin masking as early as age three. While masking helps girls fit in socially, the cognitive load of playing a role often leads to severe burnout in adulthood. Perfectionism is frequently used as a coping mechanism to avoid the rejection sensitivity that comes with ADHD. There is a significant overlap between inattentive ADHD and autistic traits, particularly regarding sensory processing and social cues. A diagnosis provides a vital framework of self-empathy, replacing the labels of "lazy" or "unmotivated" with a biological explanation. Because ADHD is highly genetic, a child's diagnosis is often the first step in recognizing neurodivergence across the entire family tree. A reminder to sign up for a live 90-minute training workshop Emily will be presenting for parents, educators, and clinicians on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at 12:30 PM Eastern, 9:30 AM Pacific. She joins with Elizabeth Sautter to provide a neurodiversity-affirming framework that helps kids and teens build real emotional regulation and resilience without shame, pressure, or power struggles. If you can't join live, a recording will be available shortly after the presentation ends. Register here. Cynthia Hammer, MSW is an advocate, author, and nonprofit leader dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding of Inattentive ADHD. Diagnosed at age 49 in 1992, she has spent decades working to amplify the voices of individuals whose ADHD often goes unseen and misunderstood. Cynthia is the author of Living with Inattentive ADHD and the founder of two nonprofit organizations, ADD Resources and the Inattentive ADHD Coalition. She currently leads the FINDtheADHDgirls initiative, a project focused on identifying and supporting girls and women whose ADHD has been overlooked. Through her writing and advocacy, Cynthia continues to expand recognition and access to support for those with inattentive ADHD. Understanding Yourself: A Process for Finding the Person Inside

Today's episode is a heartfelt conversation about the importance of helping neurodivergent children understand themselves and their brain profile, and how this understanding can foster confidence and self-advocacy. Emily talks with Dr. Liz Angoff about the need for transparent communication with children about their diagnoses, and the use of relatable metaphors to explain complex concepts. They discuss collaborative approaches in assessments, the challenges of co-occurring diagnoses, and the role of parents in supporting their children. How can families find practitioners who align with neurodiversity-affirming practices, and how can that lead to understanding and acceptance for both children and their families? Get comfortable, today's conversation covers a lot of ground. TAKEAWAYS Helping kids understand their brain profiles is crucial. Self-understanding fosters confidence and self-advocacy. Using relatable metaphors can aid in explaining neurodiversity. Labels can serve as anchors for understanding experiences. Children often internalize negative labels if not addressed. Collaborative assessments enhance understanding for both kids and parents. Empowering parents shifts the narrative from deficits to differences. Finding the right practitioner is essential for supportive assessments. Normalizing neurodiversity can change family dynamics for life. Have Emily come and speak to your school district, company, or organization. Here's where you can find out more and get in touch. Grab up some podcast swag for the summer, and help fund our efforts at the same time. Jan-Emmanuel De Neve: The Simple Daily Habit Linked to Happiness (Do This ONE Thing Every Day and Significantly Improve Your Life!)

We’ve been taught that success at work is what leads to happiness, but in reality, it’s how work actually feels that shapes the rest of our lives. Jay sits down with Jan-Emmanuel De Neve, Professor of Economics and Behavioural Science at the University of Oxford and Director of the Wellbeing Research Centre, and almost immediately, they land on something most of us feel but rarely say out loud: work takes up the majority of our lives, yet very few of us actually feel good while doing it. Jan shares a striking reality - less than a quarter of people report high levels of wellbeing at work. More importantly, how you feel at work doesn’t stay there, it follows you home. It shapes how you speak to your partner, how you show up for your kids, even how you engage with the world around you. This conversation isn’t just about jobs or careers, it’s about the emotional tone of our lives, and ultimately, our society. Together, they explore why so many people, especially younger generations, are struggling right now. While it’s easy to point to social media, Jan challenges that idea and points to something deeper: rising costs, uncertainty about the future, and a growing sense that the path forward isn’t as clear as it once was. There’s a quiet anxiety about whether hard work still pays off. In a world full of answers, the real skill now is asking better questions. It’s a subtle yet powerful shift, from chasing certainty to embracing curiosity. Jay and Jan unpack the relationship between money and happiness, revealing a truth that feels both grounding and surprising: beyond a certain point, more money doesn’t lead to more fulfillment. What we begin to crave instead is connection, meaning, and time, the very things we often sacrifice in the pursuit of success. In this episode you'll learn: How to Improve Your Wellbeing at Work Without Changing Jobs How to Find Meaning in Work That Feels Repetitive How to Build Stronger Connections in a Lonely Workplace How to Balance Ambition and Wellbeing Without Burning Out How to Redefine Success Beyond Money and Status How to Ask Better Questions in an Uncertain Future How to Create a Workplace Culture People Actually Enjoy How to Stay Happy Even as Responsibilities Grow How to Make Work Feel More Human and Less Transactional How to Protect Your Energy While Still Performing at Your Best When you begin to prioritize those things, even in small ways, you’ll notice something powerful: your energy changes, your perspective shifts, and your life starts to feel more aligned.
