Joseph Rises in Egypt | Pharaoh’s Dreams and the Famine | Genesis 40–42

Genesis Chapters 40–42 full Bible reading — listen to Joseph interpret the dreams of Pharaoh’s cupbearer and baker, explain Pharaoh’s troubling dreams, rise from prison to become governor of Egypt, and meet his brothers during the great famine. This Audio Bible reading continues the powerful story of Joseph in the Book of Genesis. Although Joseph remains imprisoned after being falsely accused, God continues to give him wisdom, favour and the ability to understand dreams. In Genesis Chapter 40, Pharaoh’s chief cupbearer and chief baker are imprisoned with Joseph. Both men have troubling dreams on the same night. Joseph explains that interpretations belong to God and correctly reveals what each dream means. The cupbearer is restored to his position, but he forgets Joseph and leaves him in prison. In Genesis Chapter 41, Pharaoh dreams about seven healthy cows being swallowed by seven thin cows. He also dreams about seven healthy heads of grain being swallowed by seven thin and scorched heads. None of Egypt’s wise men can explain the dreams. The cupbearer finally remembers Joseph, and Pharaoh calls him from prison. Joseph explains that God is revealing what will happen: Egypt will experience seven years of great abundance followed by seven years of severe famine.Joseph advises Pharaoh to appoint a wise leader to store food during the years of abundance. Pharaoh recognizes God’s wisdom in Joseph and places him in authority over Egypt. Joseph goes from prisoner to governor and prepares the nation for the coming famine. In Genesis Chapter 42, the famine reaches Canaan, and Jacob sends ten of his sons to Egypt to buy grain. When they arrive, they bow before Joseph without recognizing him, fulfilling the dreams Joseph had many years earlier.Joseph recognizes his brothers and tests them by accusing them of being spies. He detains Simeon and demands that they return with Benjamin. Joseph secretly returns their money inside their grain sacks, causing the brothers to fear that God is holding them accountable for what they did to Joseph.Genesis 40–42 teaches us about God’s timing, faithfulness, wisdom and providence. Joseph was forgotten by people, but he was never forgotten by God. These chapters also show how guilt, repentance and reconciliation begin to unfold within Joseph’s family.📖 CHAPTERS0:00 — Genesis Chapter 40: Joseph Interprets Two Dreams0:43 — The Cupbearer and Baker Have Dreams1:22 — Joseph Interprets the Cupbearer’s Dream2:30 — Joseph Interprets the Baker’s Dream3:53 — The Dreams Come True4:04 — The Cupbearer Forgets Joseph4:10 — Genesis Chapter 41: Pharaoh’s Dreams5:21 — Egypt’s Wise Men Cannot Interpret the Dreams6:06 — The Cupbearer Remembers Joseph6:18 — Joseph Is Brought Before Pharaoh7:49 — Joseph Interprets Pharaoh’s Dreams8:34 — Joseph Advises Pharaoh to Prepare9:05 — Pharaoh Appoints Joseph Governor of Egypt10:37 — Manasseh and Ephraim Are Born10:47 — The Seven Years of Famine Begin11:51 — Genesis Chapter 42: Joseph’s Brothers Go to Egypt12:37 — Joseph’s Brothers Bow Before Him13:24 — Joseph Accuses His Brothers of Being Spies14:42 — The Brothers Are Imprisoned15:15 — The Brothers Admit Their Guilt15:31 — Joseph Weeps and Detains Simeon15:46 — Joseph Returns Their Money16:12 — Money Is Found in the Grain Sack16:46 — The Brothers Return to Jacob18:05 — Jacob Refuses to Send Benjamin🎧 Listen while praying, studying, travelling, working, resting, meditating on Scripture or preparing to sleep.Subscribe to Bible Reading with Robert and turn on notifications as we continue reading the entire Bible, chapter by chapter, from Genesis to Revelation.Like this video, share it with someone who wants to hear God’s Word, and comment with the part of Genesis 40–42 that spoke to you most.Read.
