The Abundant Life: Reflections on Isaiah 55 | Stephanie McCourt

From Sursum Corda: Easter Joy on April 28, 2022. In this episode, Stephanie McCourt shares her thoughts on living the abundant life offered by God and resting in His promises to us. An Invitation to Grace All you who are thirsty, come to the water! You who have no money, come, buy grain and eat; Come, buy grain without money, wine and milk without cost! Why spend your money for what is not bread; your wages for what does not satisfy? Only listen to me, and you shall eat well, you shall delight in rich fare. Pay attention and come to me; listen, that you may have life.  I will make with you an everlasting covenant, the steadfast loyalty promised to David. As I made him a witness to peoples, a leader and commander of peoples, So shall you summon a nation you knew not, and a nation that knew you not shall run to you, Because of the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, who has glorified you. Seek the LORD while he may be found, call upon him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake their way, and sinners their thoughts; Let them turn to the LORD to find mercy; to our God, who is generous in forgiving.  For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways—oracle of the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, my thoughts higher than your thoughts. Yet just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down And do not return there till they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful, Giving seed to the one who sows and bread to the one who eats, So shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; It shall not return to me empty, but shall do what pleases me, achieving the end for which I sent it. Yes, in joy you shall go forth, in peace you shall be brought home; Mountains and hills shall break out in song before you, all trees of the field shall clap their hands. In place of the thornbush, the cypress shall grow, instead of nettles, the myrtle. This shall be to the LORD’s renown, as an everlasting sign that shall not fail. (Isaiah 55)

The Sacramental Imagination and a Via Magnanima | Paco Patag

A re-presentation of the very first presentation at the very first Sursum Corda on November 10, 2021. "D'you ever think about how profoundly your childhood dreams for your future were shaped by the art and stories you encountered? If we were lucky, our parents took care to feed our souls to bring out the best of who we are. But as young adults, are we as thoughtful about what we bring into our interior life? Or what we bring into the lives of others? Each of our souls are fired up in so many unique ways, and we respond with such a magnificent variety of expressions - let's share some of our fire, and take a new look at life by the light of others'." ^ This is why we do Sursum Corda. ^ Referenced quotes: “There is something at work in my soul which I do not understand. I am practically industrious–painstaking, a workman to execute with perseverance and labour–but besides this there is a love for the marvellous, a belief in the marvellous, intertwined in all my projects, which hurries me out of the common pathways of men, even to the wild sea and unvisited regions I am about to explore.” - Robert Walton | Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein Cooper - “It’s like we’ve forgotten who we are: Explorers, pioneers, not caretakers.  Donald -”This world isn’t so bad. You’re the one who doesn’t belong - born 40 years too late, or 40 years too early."  Cooper - “We used to look up in the sky and wonder at our place in the stars. Now we just look down and worry about our place in the dirt.”  Donald - “Cooper, you were good at something and you never got a chance to do anything with it. I’m sorry.” - Interstellar
