Sheriff Scottie rolls in sweaty Memphis, Debating the Merion exam at U.S. Am, and Spieth “runs out of time”

Against all odds, The Sheriff has returned to the winner's circle on the PGA Tour. Andy and Brendan discuss a loaded weekend of golf, recapping a rainy U.S. Amateur final, Scottie's sweaty weekend in Memphis, and a full 54 holes from an injured Michael Block! They begin with the U.S. Am at Merion, debating the course's merits as a championship venue in today's game before breaking down the U.S. Walker Cup team selections. Brendan also shares perhaps his favorite story of the year - Ribeye-Gate - which might have cost Jay Leng the win against Jack Whaley. As it turns out, the youths did not learn from a grizzled veteran like Sergio Garcia. Sheriff Scottie took Sgt. Sam Burns for a ride along on Sunday at the FedEx St. Jude, running away from the field despite some petty theft by a rogue sprinkler-head early in the round. Despite a strong effort from Jordan Spieth, only Sungjae Im moved inside the top 50 in the season-long standings to secure Signature Event status for 2027. Andy and Brendan run through Spieth's post-round comments about "being close," and dive into Rory McIlroy's belief that he needs a miracle to be in contention next week at Bellerive. The two recap some more results from the weekend before previewing The Boys' upcoming trip to Indianapolis for LIV Indy, where they hope to have lunch with Ian Poulter and much, much more.   Experience the power, precision and versatility of Mercedes-Benz SUVs. A real 5th major at Merion, PGA Tour Playoffs hype or boredom, and a Golf Twitter catastrophe

Yes, the Sweat Swing begins this week at TPC Initech, but the FedEx St. Jude does NOT receive Andy's Event of the Week honors! He bestows the title upon this week's U.S. Amateur at Merion, breaking down the early action with Brendan to kick off this Wednesday episode. Brendan is excited to hopefully take in some of the tournament in-person this week but wonders how, in the age of streaming everything, there's been no broadcast coverage of the stroke play rounds so far. The two run through some big names that won't be making it to match play and set up what should be a great weekend of golf at one of America's most iconic championship venues. There is a beefy (or sweaty?) preview of the FedEx St. Jude, complete with an updated weather forecast for Memphis, Tennessee! Andy's 5 Guys to Monitor This Week highlights a surprise appearance from one of the Tour's biggest stars, two Bubble Boys looking to make the Top 50, and one of the best dressed players in the field. The Schedule for the Week continues with the return of the DP World Tour and Michael Block's return stateside for this weekend's Boeing Classic on the Champions Tour. In perhaps the biggest news of the week, Brendan is tasked with explaining himself after getting ratioed on Twitter for just stating that Michael Kim has more followers than Rory McIlroy, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and even the New York Yankees(!) on the platform. We will return Friday with some more Bubble Boy discourse and whatever else presents itself in the next 48 hours of golf.   We’re returning to SPACE for a Presidents Cup week Live Show Presented by B.Draddy! Join us in Chicago on September 21 - doors will open at 5 pm and show begins at 7 pm. Tickets go on sale on Friday at 11 AM ET. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The “new era” of American golf, Lytham closes out 2026 majors, Cantlay lurks

The first Victory Monday of August belongs to the Ballfrogs! Andy, Noah Kahan, and Niall Horan are all celebrating today after Boston Common star Michael Thorbjornsen won the Rocket Classic for his first PGA Tour win. Brendan and Andy discuss the final event at Detroit Golf Club, which looked great on television following a renovation... just in time for the event to no longer exist! They take a look at the FedEx Cup standings heading into the final week of the regular season and try to put a stop to the "new era of American golf" talking points circulating after back-to-back wins by young stars. The two recap the final major of 2026, the AIG Women's Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes. Shiho Kuwaki took down Esther Henseleit in a playoff. After another major win by a Japanese player, Andy wonders why the LPGA does not spend more time or even move one of the five majors to Japan in order to capitalize on the country's growing dominance within the sport. PJ chimes in with a brief Champions Tour Minute to discuss Zatch's win at Ernie's Place before Andy recaps the weekend at the Western Am, including another stint on the bag for match play. In news, the Arnold Palmer Invitational has announced that it will be a Championship Series event in 2028, making Andy and Brendan wonder why the Tour is rolling out these announcements one by one on each different business day. Which event will be tapped for Championship status next? We'll have to wait and see!   Preorders for Fried Egg Golf Volume 2 are open now through September 4th, to begin shipping October 7th. Links Season Arrives! An Open quiz, FBF on Americans at the Open, and an Evian defender argues his case

At long last, Coffee Golf season is here! Andy and Brendan are just about ready for the final major of 2026 and kick off this Whiparound Friday episode with some more discussion about the jumbled pro golf schedule this week. Andy was especially excited to watch the Scottish Open on Thursday morning and was befuddled that it wasn't on television, further exemplifying why events like the Evian Championship and Scottish Open shouldn't share the same week. Brendan brings up a Padraig Harrington quote from last week at Scioto to kick off a discussion about the continued evolution of the pro game and how today's top players can differentiate themselves from the pack. One of these ways is to spend your time preparing for the Open with a film crew in Canada, which is where Bryson DeChambeau has apparently found himself this week. Andy wants to get to the bottom of who the best player without a major is, but first pops PJ about the continued breakout of Pete Crow-Armstrong for a mid-episode PCA Minute. After things get back to golf, PJ sticks around and quizzes Andy and Brendan on some of the players filling out the bottom of the field at Royal Birkdale next week. Kevin Van Valkenburg then jumps in for a Mercedes Flashback on the 1961 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale before Brendan chats with Matthew Galloway about his belief that the Evian is actually worthy of being a major championship. We will return on Sunday evening to recap the Scottish Open and more as Brendan heads overseas for the last major of the year!   Shop at perfectpractice.com and use promo code SGS for 20% off. A Gotterup fan club, Deere vs. Travelers debate, Blockie controversies, and Spieth tracker revolts

Sure, Chris Gotterup just won for the fifth time on the PGA Tour, but this episode could only really start in one way. Andy and Brendan immediately discuss the influx of social media content from Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding guests, because if you don't post a picture of you attending a wedding, did you really attend any wedding at all? Justin Thomas took a break from defending the Travelers Championship to appear at MSG this weekend, so Andy gives him a chance to get back in the comments by pointing out some similarities between the Travelers and the John Deere Classic. He makes a compelling case, dubbing the JDC "just the Travelers with a worse field." As previously mentioned, the event was won by Chris Gotterup after firing a 62 on Sunday ahead of the final groups. Andy and Brendan discuss Gotterup's continued rise to superstardom and look ahead to what he may be able to do overseas after a strong run at the Scottish Open and Open Championship last year. They also discuss Ben Kohles, who was unable to force a playoff on the 72nd hole, Zac Blair, and Blades Brown before PJ shares a distressing update from the Spieth Trackers following a t58 finish for their favorite player. Brendan throws out a Game Within the Game for Birkdale of Spieth vs. Padraig Harrington, moving things along to a U.S. Senior Open recap. Harrington won for the second consecutive year, putting an end to Stew Cink's run for the 2026 Champs Tour Grand Slam. Michael Block finished t31, but continued to make "headlines" by finding himself in some YouTube Golf drama on Sunday morning! After running through the rest of the results from across the globe, Andy and Brendan briefly discuss Brooks Koepka's WD from the Scottish Open before wrapping things up with a Soccer Minute ahead of the USMNT's Round of 16 game on Monday night.   Order this week and get your Coffee Golf setup dialed in for The Open next week.
