Ep. 18 - Safdie v Safdie - Marty Supreme v The Smashing Machine

Ep. 18 - Safdie v Safdie: Marty Supreme vs. The Smashing Machine 🎙️ Angel and Roman take it to the streets to talk Safdies - past, present, and suddenly divided future. From the brothers’ shared creative DNA to their diverging paths, they stroll through the Safdie filmography and the fandom around it. They compare performances and personas: The Rock staying firmly in marketing mode, tailored for likability, while Timothée goes all the way in - no safety net.  There’s talk of the infamous vampire ending of Marty Supreme that never got shot, and the episode eventually turns inward, as Angel and Roman get personal about their own paths as filmmakers. 🔥 Subscribe for more! 🎧 Listen on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/user/31s6k5ya7bqhk54n35tsw4vgbspe 🍏 Listen on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/bg/podcast/cinema-strolls/id1812422760 ✨ Support the pod 💛 Ko-fi: https://ko-fi.com/cinemastrolls ❤️ Patreon: https://patreon.com/cinemastrolls 📸 Follow us on: Instagram: https://instagram.com/cinemastrolls YouTube: https://youtube.com/@cinemastrolls Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/user/31s6k5ya7bqhk54n35tsw4vgbspe Apple podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/bg/podcast/cinema-strolls/id1812422760 🎤  Hosted by: Angel Radev – film director, editor, composer, screenwriter Roman Pessarov – film director, producer, editor 🎛️ Produced & Edited by: Noura Al Kadri – producer at Hot Potato studio (www.hot-potato.eu) 🎵 Music by Angel Radev 💬 Tell us if you liked it in the comments below 👍 Like, 💾 Save, 🔔 Subscribe ⭐ Rate us  -  it really helps!

Ep.17 - The Running Man by Edgar Wright

🎙️ Over the holidays, Angel and Roman finally caught up with The Running Man - and took a long stroll down Edgar Wright lane. What did he nail? Where did things wobble? And how does a filmmaker known for control, rhythm, and precision navigate a project like this? This one gets personal. Partly shot in Bulgaria, the film pulls Roman in for a fly-on-the-wall moment from the set - including stories from around his birthday - offering a rare Eastern European perspective on a very Anglo-American production. They start out fully hating the film and somewhere along the walk slow down, zoom out, and realize there might be more going on beneath the surface. Not excuses - context. And maybe a bit of empathy for Edgar along the way. Just an honest conversation about filmmaking, compromise, and expectations. 🔥 Subscribe for more! 🎧 Listen on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/user/31s6k5ya7bqhk54n35tsw4vgbspe 🍏 Listen on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/bg/podcast/cinema-strolls/id1812422760  -  ✨ Support the pod 💛 Ko-fi: https://ko-fi.com/cinemastrolls ❤️ Patreon: https://patreon.com/cinemastrolls  -  📸 Follow us on: Instagram: https://instagram.com/cinemastrolls YouTube: https://youtube.com/@cinemastrolls Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/user/31s6k5ya7bqhk54n35tsw4vgbspe Apple podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/bg/podcast/cinema-strolls/id1812422760 🎤  Hosted by: Angel Radev – film director, editor, composer, screenwriter Roman Pessarov – film director, producer, editor 🎛️ Produced & Edited by: Noura Al Kadri – producer at Hot Potato studio (www.hot-potato.eu) 🎵 Music by Angel Radev 💬 Tell us if you liked it in the comments below 👍 Like, 💾 Save, 🔔 Subscribe ⭐ Rate us  -  it really helps!

Ep. 16 Wake up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery

🎙️ Angel and Roman take an end-of-the-year stroll discussing Rian Johnson’s new film Knives Out 3, and talk about his career - one of the last filmmakers of the Sundance generation. From Brick to Looper to Benoit Blanc’s Netflix era, they trace the highs, compromises, and contradictions of his filmography. They dig into the Netflix experience: the enshittified LUT look, the erosion of theatrical and physical releases that it creates, and what gets lost when cinema becomes content. Along the way, they compare toxic fandoms, talk about misogyny, and disagree about Father O’Connor. 🔥 Subscribe for more! 🎧 Listen on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/user/31s6k5ya7bqhk54n35tsw4vgbspe 🍏 Listen on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/bg/podcast/cinema-strolls/id1812422760  -  ✨ Support the pod 💛 Ko-fi: https://ko-fi.com/cinemastrolls ❤️ Patreon: https://patreon.com/cinemastrolls  -  📸 Follow us on: Instagram: https://instagram.com/cinemastrolls YouTube: https://youtube.com/@cinemastrolls Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/user/31s6k5ya7bqhk54n35tsw4vgbspe Apple podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/bg/podcast/cinema-strolls/id1812422760 🎤  Hosted by: Angel Radev – film director, editor, composer, screenwriter Roman Pessarov – film director, producer, editor 🎛️ Produced & Edited by: Noura Al Kadri – producer at Hot Potato studio (www.hot-potato.eu) 🎵 Music by Angel Radev 💬 Tell us if you liked it in the comments below 👍 Like, 💾 Save, 🔔 Subscribe ⭐ Rate us  -  it really helps!

Ep. 15 - The Secret Agent by Kleber Mendonça Filho

🎙️ Angel and Roman step out of Kleber Mendonça Filho’s The Secret Agent absolutely in love with it. Roman rewatched the whole filmography, so he arrives fully loaded. Who’s the “secret agent”? Why the title? We go into spoilers - with a clear warning if you haven’t seen it yet. We celebrate Udo Kier’s final film (rest in power), gush over Wagner Moura and the cast, dive into Brazilian lore, cinematic details (yes, including the hairy leg), and offer a tiny Tânia Maria appreciation moment. Roman, raised in Lusophone Mozambique, finally gets to flex his knowledge 😀 - and we ask:
What can Bulgarian filmmakers learn from this kind of storytelling? Oh, and… Roman finally gives his Parasite opinion.

  5. Park Chan-wook’s NO OTHER CHOICE - We Decided to Stay

Park Chan-wook’s NO OTHER CHOICE - We Decided to Stay

🎙️ Fresh out of a sold-out Kinomania screening at Odeon - one of Bulgaria’s oldest and most beloved film festivals, where Kev and Vanessa liiiterally sat on the stairs in true cinemaniac fashion - Angel and Roman dive into Park Chan-wook’s latest fever dream (and yes, they kept mixing up the title). Based on a book once adapted by Costa-Gavras, the film opens with a cheeky wink to his version. From there, the stroll spirals into sociopathy, the full K-whiplash effect, and why Korean cinema’s tonal shifts keep throwing the West off balance. We draw parallels to Indian Masala and Nigerian genre-bending; embrace the digital sheen; and ramble through k-drama banter throwing in Bulgarian estrada. Also: was Son Ye-jin’s character underdeveloped? Roman finally saw Parasite (press conference pending), and The Handmaiden remains undefeated. Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another - A Master at Work

🎙️ In this episode, Angel and Roman dive into One Battle After Another, Paul Thomas Anderson’s long-awaited return - and maybe Roman’s favorite film they’ve watched for the podcast so far. They stroll through PTA’s entire filmography, from Boogie Nights to Phantom Thread, talking craft, chaos, and politics. Along the way, they drift into talk about Maya Rudolph and her mother, the American cultural spell over them, and whether PTA might just be the last true auteur to enter the Hollywood canon. Also, this is the episode where Angel finally bursts into song. But how will the episode age? Will they revisit it at the end of the season?
