Skepta’s Mum: How I raised a rap legend

Ify Adenuga grew up with strict parents. As a mum, she rewrote the rulebook and encouraged creativity in her children, with her son Skepta becoming an award-winning music artist. Ify Adenuga is parent to a musical powerhouse. Her son Skepta is a seminal figure in British culture, helping to propel grime into the mainstream. Ify has always been supportive of her son’s music career, nurturing a creative environment for all her children to thrive – a direct contrast to her own challenging childhood in Nigeria. Ify was a young girl when the Biafran War began in 1967, as government forces fought attempts by the Igbo people in the southeast of Nigeria to claim an independent Biafran state. As the conflict spread, Ify’s Igbo family had to flee their home in Lagos with nothing. They arrived in a remote village with no electricity or food. Ify remembers foraging for lizards, crickets and snakes to survive. Over a million people would die in the war, mostly from famine, including several of Ify’s own relatives. After the war, Ify managed to escape to the traditional life her strict parents had mapped out for her and moved to London. In the UK, she met the love of her life, Joe, and had four children. Living on a housing estate, Ify and Joe rejected the harsh parenting style they had each endured for a more a supportive approach and encouraged their children to be inventive. When their son Joe Jr began making music and experimenting with grime, a genre of music that was emerging from the electronic dance scene, their home became a makeshift studio with Joe Sr even providing technical computer support. Meanwhile Ify started driving Joe Jr to warehouses and venues across north London to collaborate with other young grime artists. Now, Joe Jr is known to the world as Skepta, an award-winning grime MC, rapper, and producer who collaborates with huge international names. Ify has a memoir out now called Endless Fortune. Delia Ephron has worked on some of the most famous romantic comedies of all time – like Sleepless in Seattle, and You’ve Got Mail – alongside her sister, Nora Ephron. In You’ve Got Mail, two people fall in love over email. Decades after writing that screenplay, Delia Ephron found herself in the middle of a very similar story. “I really did think I’d fallen into my own romantic comedy.” This episode was originally released in 2022. Jessie Buckley, actor

Jessie Buckley is an actor and singer. She recently won a BAFTA and a Golden Globe Award for her critically acclaimed role playing Shakespeare’s wife Agnes in Chloé Zhao’s film Hamnet. Her performance has also garnered her an Academy Award nomination. Jessie won an Olivier Award for her portrayal of Sally Bowles in a 2021 West End revival of Cabaret. Her breakout film role came in 2018 when she played an aspiring country music singer in the musical Wild Rose. Jessie was born in Killarney in County Kerry to creative parents. Her mother trained as a singer and harpist and her father, who ran a guest house when she was growing up, writes poetry. As a child Jessie and her siblings put on Irish dancing performances for people who stayed in the guest house. In 2008 she appeared in the BBC talent show I’d Do Anything – the televised search to find a Nancy for a West End production of Oliver! Jessie came second in the competition and afterwards Sir Cameron Mackintosh, one of the judges, sent her on a Shakespeare workshop at RADA which she says changed her life. She made her professional stage debut as Anne Egerman in the 2008/2009 revival of Stephen Sondheim's A Little Night Music at London's Menier Chocolate Factory. In 2010 she stepped away from professional work and enrolled at RADA where she studied for three years. After graduating she performed on stage, screen and television. She received her first Oscar nomination playing opposite Olivia Colman in the 2021 film the Lost Daughter. Jessie lives in Norfolk with her husband and their baby daughter. From Pain to Purpose with K Camp

In this episode of Let’s Try This Again, host Braelyn Simone Greenfield celebrates her birthday on Easter Sunday surrounded by family, choosing presence over luxury and reflecting on what it truly means to reset, rebuild, and walk in faith. From trading extravagant celebrations for intimate moments at home to embracing a season of spiritual renewal, Braelyn opens up about letting go of past identities and trusting God to rebuild her life the right way. Joined by longtime friend and artist K Camp, the conversation dives deep into real-life struggles, including loss, identity, relationships, and the pressure of success. K Camp shares the pivotal moment of losing his child, how that experience reshaped his perspective on life and fear, and how music became his outlet for healing. Together, they explore accountability, emotional growth, protecting your peace, and what it really looks like to evolve—personally, spiritually, and professionally—while staying true to yourself. This episode is raw, honest, and a reminder that growth doesn’t come from comfort—it comes from facing life head-on and choosing to keep going anyway. S12e8 Andy Milberg - Exploring the Negative Love Syndrome

“It’s huge to find out that who you are is really not who you’re afraid you are, and not all the patterns you’ve been acting out.” – Andy Milberg Andy Milberg Beloved Hoffman teacher, Andy Milberg, has been teaching the Process since August 1991. Bob Hoffman, founder of the Hoffman Process, trained Andy to become a teacher. One thing Andy is known for is his articulate, nuanced ability to explain the foundational theory of the Process – Negative Love. Drew and Andy dive deep into the Negative Love Syndrome and how it plays out in our lives. Showing how nuanced this syndrome is, he shares that he is still discovering more subtle ways this plays out in his life, even these many years later. Bob Hoffman Andy shares a fair amount of Hoffman history. He explains that Bob Hoffman was concerned with the pain human beings seem to experience and sought a way to be free of it. Bob asked two very important questions. The first was, “Why do seemingly rational adults continue to act out, automatically, compulsively, in self-defeating ways?” The second question was, Why is it so hard to change that behavior? Bob Hoffman discovered this fundamental theory by asking this second question. When Andy did the Process in his early forties, his attitude toward himself was that this was how he’d always been. But at the Process he was quite happy to discover that how he was is not how he always has to be. He found, post-Process, that there was much more available to him after he broke free of the power his patterns had on him. There was space for new possibilities in his life. Andy explains that this is the kind of change Hoffman means in our tagline When you’re serious about change. You don’t become somebody different. Rather, you reclaim your potential and all you can be. We hope you take away a deeper understanding of the poignancy of human nature and the possibility of reconnecting with your essential nature. You’ll want to bookmark this one so you can return to it. More about Andy Milberg: Andy did the Hoffman Process in July of 1990. He was immediately inspired to become a teacher, completing his training in August of 1991. “Although I had done a lot of personal growth work before”, he says, “the Process went deeper in so many ways, showing me my blind spots and then teaching me how to move beyond them into my authenticity. It was an amazing gift I wanted to share with others, and still do, 35 years later.” Andy spends most of the year in Ajijic, Mexico, with his wife and dog. He commutes to teach, while also coaching. In his spare time, he likes to play music and table tennis. Listen on Apple Podcasts Listen on Spotify As mentioned in this episode: Bob Hoffman, Founder of the Hoffman Process Listen to Andy’s previous episode on The Hoffman Podcast: Reflections on Teaching the Process. The Negative Love Syndrome and The Path to Personal Freedom and Love: •    Read the essay, The Path to Personal Freedom and Love. •   Listen to The Path to Personal Freedom and Love. John Bradshaw, Healing the Shame That Binds Us Brenè Brown The Negative Love Syndrome Map: The Negative Love Syndrome and the Negative Love Syndrome map are integral to the Hoffman Process.** At 24:49, Andy shares: “There’s an inner circle, which is who we really are.” (This is the little heart in the center, within a circle.) “Then there’s another circle, which is who we’re afraid we are, which, in Process terms, is that shame statement.” (This is the next circle out. It’s gray and labeled shame.) “And because of that, there’s a bigger circle, which is who we want the world to think we are, so they don’t know that we’re the shameful person that we think we are.” (This bigger circle is comprised of the four yellow/gold rings. This is the false self they refer to.) The good news is that we are neither our shame statement nor our patterns. We are Essence, our Spiritual Self. 22:22 Talking about the arrows: The fourth section in blue is the area Andy and Drew talk about when Drew asks about the arrows, and Andy responds by speaking about addictions. **The Hoffman Process®, including the Negative Love Syndrome®, is protected worldwide as intellectual property, encompassing trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. But inside, Ema was fighting a silent battle with major depression and a loss of identity that nearly cost her everything. In this episode of Rise Above, Ema gets vulnerable about the reality of being a professional athlete under extreme pressure, the "numbness" of long-term medication, and the grueling journey of rebuilding her life from zero after a divorce and a 10-year hiatus from the sport.
