Driven to Death? - “Reliving a Nightmare”

In this episode Caroline and Nick have the emotional evidence from Tarryn Baird’s mum who said she’d been living a nightmare ever since her daughter died. Michelle Baird said Tarryn had started to withdraw from her family in the months before she took her life and she blamed her frequent bruises on falling over. Michelle Baird also said Chris Trybus told her Tarryn “couldn’t stop” drinking and taking prescription medication and she also told of what she witnessed whenever Chris worked from home.   Apple Podcast link to The Trial+ Amanda Wixon episode: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-trial/id1653090985?i=1000747229655 Spotify link to The Trial+ Amanda Wixon episode: https://open.spotify.com/episode/51nxnjabT3wgmEMQhMbvEB?si=VjaB_E0dSpiA2E6s_NMn_w Subscribe via thecrimedesk.com Follow us on TikTok @DailyMailCrime Email us thetrial@dailymail.com WhatsApp us +447796657512 (start your message with ‘Trial’)   Presenter: Caroline Cheetham and Nick Fagge Actors: Rhys Hanson and Hannah Whitehead Producer: Chelsey Ranore Editor: Chelsey Ranore Creative Director: Caroline Cheetham Production Manager: Vittoria Cecchini   A Daily Mail production. The Trial+: The Nottingham Inquiry - “I believe they were murdered”

In June 2023, a series of unthinkable attacks in Nottingham killed three people and left three others seriously injured. Students Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar were fatally stabbed as they walked home from a night out. The attacker then went on to kill school caretaker Ian Coates and steal his van, which was later used to drive into pedestrians in the city centre. The man responsible, Valdo Calocane, had previously been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. He was later given an indefinite hospital order after admitting manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility. Now, a public inquiry is examining whether the tragedy could have been prevented. In this episode, Caroline and Ryan speak to Emma Webber, Barnaby’s mother, about the first weeks of the Nottingham Inquiry. She describes the long fight by the families to secure the inquiry, the disturbing evidence emerging about missed opportunities to stop the attacker, and why she and the other families remain determined to push for accountability and meaningful change. Driven to Death? - Tarryn's Final Hours

In this episode we hear the devastating final words of Tarryn Baird in the hours and minutes before she took her own life. In a series of recordings played to the jury she can be heard asking for help with suicidal thoughts, but by the time police arrived at her home it was too late. We also heard another tape which the prosecution say is a secret recording of Tarryn being raped by her husband, Chris Trybus, but he says what’s on the tape is consensual sex. A number of the witnesses in court this week were openly emotional as they explained how they tried to help Tarryn. Driven to Death? - Do No Harm

In this episode Caroline and Nick have the medical evidence from Tarryn Baird’s GP who she saw or spoke to over 100 times in two years. The notes showed she reported repeated beatings, assaults with a rope and rape at the hands of her husband, Christopher Trybus. Time and time again she was urged to end the relationship, but she said she was terrified he would find her, and it was more dangerous to leave than to stay. He argues the allegations are lies, and during one month when he’d allegedly attacked her more than once, evidence proved he wasn’t even in the country.
