From Rage to Redemption: Forgiving the Woman Who Killed My Son | Matthew Hill

Send us Fan Mail Born and raised around Kansas City’s 12th Street, Matt grew up surrounded by two completely different influences. His mother taught him how to survive the streets, while his father introduced him to church, discipline, hard work and life outside the neighborhood. The streets eventually pulled Matt into fighting, hustling, shootouts and relationships that repeatedly placed his life in danger. However, the most devastating moment of his life came when his son, Lil Matt, was shot and killed. Consumed by grief and rage, Matt believed revenge would eventually send him to prison. To remain present for his other children and continue fulfilling his purpose, he made the painful decision to forgive the woman responsible for his son’s death. Matt also discusses becoming a father at 13, discovering another son 15 years after his birth, surviving betrayal, losing close friends, repairing his relationship with his father and transforming himself into an entrepreneur, mentor and community leader. Today, Matt works in financial services, owns AJ’s Bar & Grill in downtown Kansas City and helps others recognize that success often begins with a change in mindset. This is a testimony about grief, fatherhood, forgiveness, faith, personal responsibility and allowing God to fight the battles that anger cannot win. “Forgiveness is not for them. It is for you.” May his wounds become beautiful scars. We pray you’ve been Indelibly Marked. Send us Fan Mail She grew up loving her father deeply—even when that meant visiting him in rehab centers while he battled addiction. As a child, she didn’t fully understand everything happening around her… she just knew she wanted to be with her dad. In this deeply honest episode of Indelibly Marked, Nissa opens up about growing up between two parents after their split, carrying years of resentment toward her mother, and eventually realizing something she never expected—her mother had been the one carrying the weight all along. Years later, life took another unexpected turn. After being diagnosed with lupus, Nissa shares what it felt like finding out she was sick, the hospital stays, recovery process, difficult conversations with GOD, and the emotional and physical battle that followed. Through it all, her mother showed up every single day—and their relationship changed forever. Nissa also speaks candidly about losing her father as a self-described daddy’s girl and the pain that followed. She shares the heartbreaking loss of her big brother during the COVID era, the challenges surrounding his hospitalization, and the pain their family experienced afterward—including becoming separated from his children. But this isn’t only a story about loss. Even while fighting lupus, Nissa refused to stop living. She continued pursuing her dream as a dancer and choreographer—and even while in the hospital, she found herself dancing and inspiring the nurses around her.
