Episode 61- The Gorilla Man: Serial Killer and Necrophile Part 2

In Part 2, Tracy talks about how Earle goes to Canada and continues murdering women. After two murders in Canada, many outfit changes, visits to several towns, an attempt to cross the border back into the US, and an actual town mob hunting him down, he is apprehended by authorities. Although he has committed dozens of murders, he is only tried for the final two attributed to him. Tracy goes through the trial and investigations. For research, Tracy referenced two books: The Laughing Gorilla by Robert Graysmith and The Gorilla Man Strangler Case by Alvin Esau The cocktail for this episode is The Out of Towner. It is our take on a Canadian favorite. THE OUT OF TOWNER 2 oz. bourbon or Canadian Whisky 3/4 oz. real maple syrup 2 oz. Ice Wine 5 shakes cherry bitters Add all ingredients over ice in old fashioned glass. Stir well to incorporate. Garnish with two cherries and drizzle cherry juice over the top. Episode 60- The Gorilla Man: Serial Killer and Necrophile Part 1

In Part 1, Tracy talks about the origins of Earle Nelson, his traumatic upbringing, both parents dying, his multiple traumatic brain injuries, and bouts of syphilis (which offered possible mercury and arsenic poisonings as treatment), his insatiable sexual appetite, and his overt religious fervor. Nelson had serval aliases and traveled all across the US to strangle women to death and sexually assault them post-mortem. There is a very long list of murders attributed to him and he worked in so quickly and randomly, he was very hard to pin down by authorities. For research, Tracy referenced two books: The Laughing Gorilla by Robert Graysmith and The Gorilla Man Strangler Case by Alvin Esau The cocktail for this episode is The Dirty Wanderer. It's simple and classic. THE DIRTY WANDERER 2 oz. gin 1/2 dry vermouth 5 shakes olive bitters Olives in vermouth Add all ingredients to shaker or stirring glass with ice. Either shake or stir thoroughly. Serve in a chilled martini glass with two olives to garnish. Tracy talks about the disappearance and murder of Sonya Ivanoff, an Alaska native woman. Her murder unveils the years long abuse of power by a police officer in a small, rural town where much of his abuse was committed upon Native Alaskan women. For information, Tracy referred to Fatal Frontier: Evil in Alaska, The Star Advertiser newspaper, and the court transcripts from the trial. The cocktail for this episode is the Alaska Smash. It is delicious and full of yummy summertime berries! Handful of fresh blackberries and blueberries 2 sprigs mint 1 lime, juiced 1 oz. simple syrup 4 oz. Sipsmith Lemon Drizzle Gin Tonic Water Muddle together berries, mint, and lime juice in a shaker. Add syrup and gin. Shake with ice. Double strain over fresh ice in an old fashioned glass. Episode 58- The Disappearance of Thora Chamberlain

Tracy talks about the disappearance and probable rape and murder of 14 year old Thora Chamberlain. Thomas Henry McMonigle is the primary suspect and all evidence points to his guilt. He tries his best to throw the FBI off his trail, but he's not very cunning and he isn't successful. This story is a total wild-goose chase that involves other people and uncovers more murders or possible murders. Tracy relied on the book The Murder of Thor’s Chamberlain by Rod Kackley.  The cocktail for this episode is a classic; Mai Tai! It's tropical and delicious- we used the original Trader Vic's recipe. CLASSIC MAI TAI 1 1/2 oz. aged rum 1/2 oz. Grand Marnier 3/4 oz. lime juice 1 oz. orgeat syrup 1 oz. dark rum Shake all ingredients over ice; aside from the dark rum.
