Understanding Chemotherapy: A Patient’s Guide to Cancer Treatment

Chemotherapy kills cancer cells and prevents them from proliferating or spreading by using strong medications. Depending on the ailment, it may be administered via injection, pill, or intravenous injection. Chemotherapy targets rapidly proliferating cancer cells. However, it can also damage healthy cells, resulting in adverse effects such as fatigue, infections, hair loss, and nausea. These effects are usually temporary and manageable with supportive care. The goal of chemotherapy can vary — curing cancer, controlling its growth, or reducing symptoms.
